This is for both romantic and platonic relationships. You get to know someone and you discover they got issues like everybody. You are initially cool about it (you might even be able relate to them) but down the road you find yourself judging them more harshly then you initially did.
I find myself doing this to friends I’ve made in the past. I might still be friendly with them but we both have moved on in our lives. But I find myself being less accepting about their past flaws.
I know it’s not right. Not fair. Not cool. Not right because it goes both ways. But I know I’ve done this to people and vice versa. I find myself distancing myself with them despite having a strong comraderie at one point.

Dipping into our relationship toolbox, we've all been there, haven't we? At first, learning about someone's quirks and battle scars feels like discovering treasure—exciting and intimate. But as time trickles by, our shiny view can tarnish, turning what once sparkled into something we'd rather not deal with.
It's a human hiccup, really. We start off with empathy, our hearts wide open, ready to embrace the full spectrum of their experience. And yet, as the nuances of daily life with those same issues play out, our patience can start to wear thin. It's like loving a song until you've heard it on repeat one too many times. Suddenly, what was once a catchy tune begins to grate.
But here's where the magic of self-awareness and communication waltzes in. Recognizing this shift in your feelings is the first step. It's what you do next that counts. Do you tune out, or do you turn up the volume on compassion and understanding? The dance of relationships—be it with friends, lovers, or family—is all about finding the rhythm between acceptance and growth, together. So, next time you find yourself judging, maybe hit pause and reflect. Are you giving the same grace you hope to receive? Love, after all, is a two-way street—potholes and all. 😉
