Is it bad that I can’t feel fully happy because my boyfriend doesn’t make much money?

My mom (whom is generally crazy about money by the way) thinks that I shouldn’t look at that at all apparently. As long as my partner doesn’t do drugs and is present, she thinks that’s all that really matters. Even though she’s the one that told me to get someone educated when I was younger.

I feel like she doesn’t really care that I’ll struggle more with an unsuccessful partner, as long as I make pretty good money myself. The thing is, my partner has quite good cards rn, but he just doesn’t wanna focus and study, and is being lazy.

I hate the thought that everything will depend on me financially, and that I can’t even think about having kids anytime soon because of it.

Should I let this affect me so much?

If you have a issue you need to be honest as well as leave the relationship do not waste someone’s time and make someone else miserable. If you’re not happy then don’t waste his time that’s all I can really say.

Number one being with someone long term you’re not happy with will cause you to become miserable as well as you’ll make someone else miserable. Maybe he needs time as well to focus on what needs to be focused on and maybe there is someone whose a better fit for him who will be happy for him.

Even if you still love him it’s going to take brutal but kind honesty to work through the issues. You’re already thinking it so resentment is building. Maybe it’s best you break it off on good terms and if it’s meant to be it will be meant to be later.

I think what you're saying is fair. It makes sense. I wouldn't say it's bad to feel that way.

What is bad, is staying with your boyfriend if this is how you feel.

I don't think you care too much about money, or that you're being shallow or anything like that.

You're not happy though. I don't think it's ok to stay in a relationship resenting him the whole time, and being unhappy about this.

In short, if this is how you feel, you need to break up with a boyfriend you feel this way about him.
