Do you believe you can put out into the universe what you want and it come to you?

Question

I told my therapist about a month ago I wanted someone romantic and spontaneous as my ex wasn't really and now I think I have found him because today he said something really spontaneous and romantic to me. And he's been doing that for the past couple of weeks.

It's weird because I was just saying crap at the time so she would get off my back and it actually came true lol. Like I wasn't really into manifestations but now I kind of believe in it now.

But anyways do you believe in manifesting what you want or the law of attraction?

No. The idea that you can just "manifest" something (meaning: think it, or just talk about it) is absolutely ridiculous. You have to WORK for it. And, yes, sharing your goals with others CAN be part of working for it, but it's not the main part.

There are millions of people who are doing the same thing they've been doing for 10 years, who are "manifesting" wealth and fame and happiness and are no closer to any of those things than they were 10 years ago. Sheer luck can sometimes be a factor, but most "luck" is really tied to effort - the harder and smarter you work at something, the "luckier" you tend to be.

When it comes to attracting a partner, you need to spend at LEAST as much time, if not far more, figuring out what the kind of person you want is looking for, and becoming that, as you do figuring out what YOU want. That's because it's not nearly enough to be able to identify someone as being what you want - it's MORE important that you are what that person is looking for. That's because they have agency too, and you can't make them want something other than what they already want.

I believe it can direct your actions and motivation towards certain actions which is where the real changes happen.

The magic cosmic stuff can toss my salad though. It might direct you to do things you wouldn't have otherwise without a lot of thought and imagining, but there is no magic taking place.

If there is some sort of magic taking place, it's still you putting your energy into whatever you're manifesting.

No. This is not true. This can end up being a dangerous philosophy if you follow it too literally.

Do you remember that book "the Secret"? That Oprah promoted about 15 years ago? Same idea. If you want, I can dig up some sources to explain just why this is a very unhealthy way to perceive the world (because of the implications when it comes into applying it in the practical)

If you mean in a vague, sorta general way (like karma) then that's fine.

IF you mean literally manifesting things in your life through the power of will, or prayer, or energy or whateverthefuck. That is definitely bad. Definitely bullshit.

It depends on how much you actually believe this I suppose. But I find the whole concept intellectually offensive (personally). But beyond that, there really are valid reasons that this philosophy is problematic.

Nobody can manifest things. It's not possible. Anyone who says different is mistaken. I can't tell you how strongly I feel about this. So goddamn strong. This is something I've looked into in depth a long time ago. It's bad for you. (I had an ex who was into this stuff. It made me so angry I had to look into it further)

This does not mean I like you any less. I hope I didn't lose points with you either by expressing my (strong) opposition to this. I don't mean to offend or attack you. I just have a intense visceral, intellectual reaction to this specific philosophy. I hope you rethink it.

I find the alleged law of attraction misconceived at best and harmful at worst, simply because it is a tool used power-hungry people, to assert spiritual influence, and feed people in sorrow as well as people with mental illnesses.

Spirituality speaking, I believe that the universe doesn't give a damn about this planet or any of its inhabitants. I see nothing cruel or negative about this, I just see neutrality and scales, since earth is a pebble, small one, in the galaxies.

Any state of mind generates consequences around, socially, predicting which ones seems perilous. And we have this natural tendency to prefer looking at an order more than coincidences, to attribute effects we want to see to events we experience...

Jesus spread goodness everywhere... except for the religious people whom he badgered. they had him killed this week 1000's years ago. he is well revered for the goodness he gave and salvation. that's worth putting into the universe, even if don't get good back.

I think if you put enough energy into something that you will eventually get it. Some people want things and don’t put any energy into it.

there are only certain unlucky circumstance that can make that impossible, like being born in an3rd world country puts more challenges and to some even impossible. But in general people living in regular households a regular type of poor, if they have enough desire and put in all their energy into something, they really do make something for themselves if not exactly what they aim for then something very close to it.

but many of us get lazy and think it just didn’t happen to us because we were “unlucky” when in fact it’s just we didn’t put enough effort and think the luck only happens to “others”. In reality those others just put in more energy to get there. Very few get it by just “luck” like being born into billions or being the offspring of an already successful or famous person, that’s just luck.

I’ve experimented with it pretty extensively, and I do believe it’s possible to manifest everything you want. I can’t remember what quantum physics theory it was that said everything vibrates at a specific frequency throughout the universe, but I feel like there’s definitely something to it if all I have to do is change my own vibrations.

Hmm I don't know. The way I do it I just set a goal and work on it step by step and do the things you need to do to get there and then it works. With a lot of things at least. With relationships and emotional stuff it's more complicated but even there you can make small improvements over time that make your social life better.
