Black Nails? Feelings?

I love the look of black nail polish, but every time I wear it my dad has to comment on how he hates it and how awful it is. What do you think? Love it? Hate it? No preference?

I like black nails but I think they look better when they are offset by another color. I personally like to pair my black nails with white. Sometimes I'll do one nail black one nail white or sometimes I'll do a cute designs. I've done the converse shoe look once...something like this link also done a Ying Yang sign on my nails, which I thought was a cute look.

Another good option while using the color black is to use type shades(or types) of black. Maybe use a matt black and then a shinny black for the tip so their is contrast. Something like this: link

I think straight black can sometimes look a little icky but there are ways to doctor it up to get that dark look and still look very cute.

I'm not into black nail polish UNLESS

1) Your skin tone can pull it off (cool/neutral)

and

2) It has glitter or some design to break it up. Plain black is just yucky to me. I like Revlon's Moon Candy nail collection (I have the deep brown/gold one) and OPI's Stay the Night (Mariah Carey -- black liquid sand with red glitter).

I'm biased, though, cause my skin is warm-neutral and I'll only wear Stay the Night at most. link Pink, pastels, gold, silver, aqua, red, orange, taupe, periwinkle, etc. are more my thing.

My dad doesn't like it either, because he thinks it makes me look goth. My parents haven't told me not to wear it, though, and my mom is fine with it as long as I don't wear it to church. I just don't wear it when I'll be around my parents or I paint neon designs over the black background. I really like it when it's just glossy black, though.

I am not a dad, but I like black nail polish. Especially if it looks kinda bright rather than dull and dry.

I personally hate it because it looks pretty bleak. But on my best friend (she's Indian and I'm white so she has a much darker complexion) it actually looks very nice and a lot more natural than it does on me. So I think it depends on your skin tone. The darker your skin, the more likely you will be to pull it off.

I don't personally paint my names, but black nails are fine when done well (i.e. a shinier finish rather than dull, and the nails themselves are long enough since black tends to "shorten" and "stub" the appearance of nails and fingers).

While black nails are often associated with those styles, they're actually incredibly mainstream now. You even see it on major fashion runways...

I love black nails as long as they aren't badly chipped. Some colors still look tolerable when they are chipped but black is not one of them- so it's a high maintenance color.

For whatever reason, the only nail polish color I like is blue. I don't hate black, just not a huge fan.
