Wicca Series (Part 1): Who Do We Worship?

Starting a new series as it's evident a lot of people don't know much about it. The first topic is about who we worship because I think before I can explain anything else you need this bit of info. You must remember that unlike islam, christianity, judasim, etc there is no book of rules for wicca... we typically have similar beliefs but not everyone believes the same thing.

In general Wiccans are polytheists meaning they worship more that one god. Usually a Wiccan has a certain pantheon they follow (greek, roman, egyptian, norse, celtic, ect). That being said although some Wiccans believe in the actual dieties like christians believe there is a physical god, most don't. I don't. Some believe in just the god and goddess, and other's believe in a whole bunch of gods and goddesses So I am going to use a little analogy to explain what I mean.

What I, and many other Wiccans believe in is the source energy. This source energy is in everything in the universe including you and me, making us all a little bit of a god/goddess. It's really hard though to picture energy and worship it. So what many Wiccans do is they personify this source energy. To further explain this picture a tree. This tree represents the source energy. Now divide this tree in half vertically. Half is masculine, half is feminine which means half is god and half is goddess. Now there are branches on this tree. They represent the different aspects of the world (war, sun, moon, agriculture, marriage, fertility, ocean, sky, ect) The leaves on the branches are the gods and goddess that correspond to the different aspects. My pantheon is greek so all my examples will be greek. So war is Ares, fertility and marriage is Hera, sky is Zeus, moon is Artemis, etc. All these gods and goddesses are just personified pieces of the source energy that help me visualize what/who I am worshipping.

Like I said some people would actually believe that the gods and goddesses live in Olympus, just not most.

As for the source energy, it is in everything which is why Wicca is a nature based religion. We revere the source energy and the source energy is scattered all through out nature.

In the next mytake I will talk about the general beliefs of Wicca.

Wicca is a wonderful belief system. The people are very trustworthy and are much more in tune with life than most. They have a simple creed which allows them to not have to follow the dogma of other religions and yet be upstanding citizens. "Harm, ye none." where any harm a Wiccan may cause will come back three times to them.

Good idea for a take - I was just talking with societies about different societies around the world who still have believers in for want of a better word nature's religion and I thought of Wicca so it is a well timed series of takes for me

Peace, joy, love and truth, this is what people and we are all wanting and seeking. Jesus and God can only give this because they are the creators of all that is good in all of life. I pray this for all of us and you, it comes from believing in God and Jesus and repenting of sins we do and following Jesus and God in truth and love. I can say the exact same thing about my religion so who's right? Neither of us can say... the difference between you and me is you feel the need to convert everyone but I only care about educating. I don't care if you are a Christian, that is your path and that's great... it just isn't mine.

and this is why I much prefer wiccans they don't try to convert you, wiccans tend to respect people's right to their own beliefs. hence the variations within the Faith, it's a belief structure that has a much higher value for peace and tolerance

The exact opposite is true. You are precisely worshipping the devil by having communion with his minions - Your actions are what matter, not what you wish to believe, because there is one truth that comes from one true God.

Don't forget about The Great Mother Goddess, some Wiccans are matriarchal monotheists.
Besides that, some Wiccans are also Pantheists, they don't believe in any deities, they believe in the energy of Nature (similar like the Force from Star Wars).
And finally, some Wiccans are kinda Atheists, they believe in the power of human mind.

I'm not religious. I do believe there is something greater than us out there. The bible is a great book but i simply don't trust man. Man wrote it, it has been translated so many times and parts omitted, maybe things were added over centuries.
But i don't knock anyone else's beliefs. Religion gives people something to believe in and most teach you to be honest and good to everyone. And satanists, well I don't know you do it but go ahead and we all get what we deserve based on our actions 😊

Thanks so much for this series. I'm a Christian, and there are quite of few Wiccans in my region of the state. Once we saw a Wiccan driving around with a pro-life sticker. You say that Wicca is nature based. Is pro-life a common Wiccan stance?

that is up to an individual. I am pro-choice but personally would never have an abortion. It isn't something that is dictated in our religion

Hi, I'm sorta agnostic, I guess, although I think agnostics believe that there's some sort of god or goddess ruling everything but I don't really think that's too plausible and I believe more in a force, I guess, something powering the world's life, is that kinda what you're talking about? I've recently left Christianity because I thought it was too flawed and that it contradicted itself too much, so I'm just sorta lost religiously, could you help me understand this in more depth?

It sounds like you are talking about the source energy. The source energy is essentially an energy that you can find in everyone and everything. This means all things and people have a vibrational energy to them. Do you believe in souls? and who/what do you believe have souls?

I thought Wiccans worshiped an earth goddess named Gaia, and Gaia might have been that large woman prehistoric figure that they're always digging up.

I worship Gaia because I have a huge connection with her but that's not true for all or even the majority. I believe most wiccans follow either celtic or norse pantheons

I've explained a lot more actually. I am not oblivious to the fact that I have lots to learn still but so does everyone else reading this and I don't see anybody else educating people about wicca on this site. Apparently you cannot read so let me break down what I talked about. I explained that all wiccans worship differently, that we have no set religious book, I talked about pantheons, considering that doesn't exist in mainstream religions that is important to know. I did indeed explain what the source energy is as many people are unaware of what it is... that covers what we worship as that is all this post was about. Please don't be condescending towards me when all I am doing is simply explaining my faith. If you look below you will find numerous people found this very educational.

Apparently you don't know too much to do with being pagan. Seems to me, you have even forgotten the first rule of Wicca.
In addition to that, people have found it informative because they know even less, than you.
And, or are on the pagan bandwagon. Or feel Wicca is cool because they feel it's all about spells and "magic". Then people get all fucked up and start thinking its devil worshipping or some voodoo shit, etc. You've told nothing of how the earth helps us, deflect and absorb the negative energies around. Very limited and stereotypical information is littered in this take, I feel. But again, this is just my opinion.

God warns us Christians to stay away from such thing and to not practice or even come in contact with such thing. God says for Christians to not practice magic, speak with the dead, or socialize with mediums. This is incorrect. Wicca is it's own religion. Not all wiccans are witches and not all witches are wiccan. Christians can chose to practice witchcraft though

That's not really being a Christian, that person would be described as a lukewarm Christian, someone who says they believe in Christ/God but don't believe or agree with the Bible. Zendrya beat me to it, I was about to say this is a misunderstanding on Anon's part; there are Christian witches because witchcraft in itself is just that, a craft which isn't affiliated to any religion. While Wicca is a religion so it couldn't really mix with other religions.

BrittBratt2416 is basically saying she doesn't believe Christ was the messiah if she's following Leviticus lol, because he taught that the rules of Leviticus aren't relevant any more. Also I highly doubt she follows every rule mentioned in Leviticus. As I said, there's a fair consensus that the rules laid out in Leviticus are moot post the New Testament. The only mention of witches in that part of the Bible is a deliberate mistranslation of the line 'thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live' in the King James Bible, where the word 'poisoner' was changed to 'witch' to justify the genocide of Pagan people which allowed the religion of Christian invaders to dominate in formerly Pagan countries.
