Dark Side of the Festival of Light

Dark side of the Festival of Light.

If you've had enough of those cheesy takes from Indiots about this festival, here's something better to read.

Here are the negative aspects of this festival.

Pollution

Can you see it?

Dark Side of the Festival of Light

Ironically the country that acts so eco friendly, causes a month worth of pollution in just one night.

The firecrackers cause a huge amount of Air and Noise pollution.

Every year, the day after Diwali registers an alarming rise in the pollution levels in the city.

The Noise of the most commonly used firecracker, the 'Sutli 01' is always around 140dB. Below is our green devil.

Dark Side of the Festival of Light

Compare this to

Dark Side of the Festival of Light

The upper limit is 75dB while our little toy is about double the limit.

It's like standing on the deck of an Aircraft carrier with one jet taking off every 10 second.

With all the crackers and rockets going off continuously, it feels like being trapped in a fucking warzones.

Vandalism

This is how it looks afterwards.

Dark Side of the Festival of Light

This road in my locality had seen better days.

The explosive power of the firecrackers used is like little engineering explosives.

And the waste? Don't worry, the cleaning crew comes every morning.

Every year, public property is vandalised for apparently no reason.

The 'Good Stuff'...

Everyone celebrates in their own way.

Dark Side of the Festival of Light

If there's anything that sells more than dairy products and firecrackers that day, it's liquor and weed.

Even if every single store is closed, alcohol and other stuff will be available all night and will sell like crazy.

Drunkard will roam around the streets, smashing bottles around and starting fights for no reason.

Effects on Animals

Bleeding ears.

Dark Side of the Festival of Light

A 100 dB sound is already painful enough, 120 is even more, 140 is insane level.

Imagine how the other denizens of the city hear it.

Animal ears are many times sensitive compared to humans.

You can imagine how a dog would hear the same sound compared to humans.

Human: HAPPY DIWALI!

Dog: Bitch, please.

Effects on Wildlife

No birds will show up next morning.

Dark Side of the Festival of Light

As stated before, the loudness of the firecrackers is comparable to a jet takeoff.

The sound can be heard many kilometres away. This causes widespread distress to the wildlife in the zone.

Tigers and leopards are especially scared of the sounds and will often be seen acting so.

And let's not forget out big friend,

Dark Side of the Festival of Light

And the monies...

Its so much fun!

Dark Side of the Festival of Light

Every little toy costs a significant amount of money. People know it, but who gives a fuck.

Sure we could donate money or maybe combine cash to make a shelter for the homeless but why should we?

We love wasting cash. Burning Rupee notes is our favourite thing.
