One thing I noticed when I used to be an active member at the Mormon church is full of narcissistic and controlling people. That included my now ex in laws. We had no say every choice was made by my in laws on how our wedding should be to what house and where and what place we go on family weekend. When I left and ask to removed my record. My ex in-laws kept on sending me the missionaries and other church member were harassing me to the point I had to get the police involved. Thank God if it wasn't for the police they still would have been harassing me. I had enough proof when the bishop sent me non stop harassing messages on FB nonstop when I ask politely to please stop. No the Mormon LDS church isn't like any other normal church the are controlling you can't be your own self. If you go to the temple they make you wear secret under garments you can't drink coffee not wear tattoos you can't drink green tea. The LDS church tells their members to follow the profit blindly. When I was having marriage my ex cheated on me I was looking for advice help nothing.
+1 yThat has not been my experience, they are very nice to me, polite and respectful. Even when I answer the door with a bottle of alcohol and smoking weed, half undressed.
I will say some members are terrible though but if they are following the actual teachings, which the vast majority don't cause they are all human and are massive sinners themselves.
It sounds like your ex-in laws are just crazy or something though, same as with your cheating ex.
I get invited to events and if I go, they are all nice but I am not very good at any of that stuff, best to just get along friendly and I'm good with that.
All I can say is I don't judge any religion by the actions of its members, cause every religion has bad people and bad members, I will only judge by the actual teachings and what they say they should be doing, even though most don't actually do what they should be doing.
I highly doubt your ex and his family was doing what they should be doing, based on teachings.
I'm glad you divorced his ass though, I hate cheaters.

I see your point. Did they try to convert you in to mormonis? LDS members think that woman have no rights I mean I am not a femenist but they say that men are in control.

I was raised in it but never very good at it, lets just say I was terrible at being a member. They only tried to bring me back but were always respectful.
I didn't live in the city though, grew up very very rural... so it was a different experience than the city people. Like literally, people would go out and smoke and drink between sessions, but others were just glad they showed up and didn't judge them.
Rural people tend to be more friendly, less judgmental but can do more gossip. Very helpful though, regardless of member or not.
Even after I stopped going, people still respectful and friendly to me... to this day they are. - +1 y
Why did you left the church? How come you never served a mission? Looks like you aren't worthy!
- +1 y
@Ilovethesunshine Definitely not worth, not sure I ever was... but my parents let us decide if we wanted to be part when we were old enough, rather than force us to.
I wasn't very good at it at all, but I was also raped and almost murdered at 14, not by a member but, people in general were victim blaming until the truth came out and many of the adults apologized later but not their kids, because of that I wanted nothing to do with anyone, member or not and just stopped going and never went back.
I don't have anything against the church or its members, and while I almost died and had a near death experience and I know there is something after this life into the next, as I didn't want to come back.
I very much practice the live and let live policy with everyone, regardless of religion or lack of. - +1 y
Okay but just because someone hurt you that didn't mean you had to live.
- +1 y
@Ilovethesunshine I did need to come back, to stop him... as he was a serial rapist and was terrorizing others and if I did not, he would of continued to do so... I'm 100% sure that is why I was told I needed to come back.

+1 yCult... pretty simple.
Joseph Smith was arrested 19 times for being a conman and charlatan before he created the cult of mormonism.
it is all Men Based. You don't see a woman having multiple husbands.
and most the mormons i know, have NO CLUE about the secrets in the Temple. They do wear the Holy Underwear.
I feel Joseph Smith was a transvestite and liked women's underwear. LOL
and their temples have a spire on top, not a cross. Spire is for Impaling Non-Believers in the old days.. lol20 Reply

Mormons are man (Joseph Smith) doctrine supported entity that is based in works and being one of the Elites to have their own Planet, There is no Grace in that False Paradigm as there is no Grace in Islam with its Muhammad obviously not Holy Quran. One thing abut these guys, including but not limited to Catholicism, Adventists, Gnostic Wicca etc.. is they are all Works based as related to Salvation.
Good look with fallen self-purifying, through sanctification, one justified Holy before a Holy God. How has that worked out historically... Putin and Xi most recently. Man does not improve without Love, Grace, Mercy and Judgment found In and Through Jesus the Christ completion at the Cross..

u +1 yI suspect that all of this has its roots in the beginning of the church, when it developed like a cult and its members were ostracized.
My church is located in a cluster of four churches - Lutheran, Baptist, Episcopal, and Mormon. At times, the three churches get together for joint events but the Mormons NEVER join any of that.
There are some things about Mormons which I greatly respect but there is also a huge amount of weirdness with that church. I have heard rumors that the Mormon church has a "secret" marriage ceremony in which the participants must be nude. Is that true or was it true in the past?
01 Reply- +1 y
That it used to be many years ago like back in the 1970's. But now for secret marriage they are asking to wear secret white dresses nothing traditional weddings. They make these secret handshakes people are sitted all in a circle in a room with walls of mirrors Mormons do not exchanges rings either.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yokay, so you're either straight up lying or don't know what you're talking about when you say that they believe women have no rights. Tells me everything I need to know about you already.
It's also been MY experience that the people who like to attack the "Mormons" about judging, do a fair bit of judging them in the process. Some people might call you out for being a hypocrite in that instance, but I won't. Not me. I'm gonna let it slide.
I've been raised in and around the church my whole life, and can't think of a single member who actually they were better than someone else. My church had several members who were millionaire doctors, lawyers and such, and they were best friends with guys who were on welfare.
I will say, there are "snobs" in and out of every religion. That's a personality trait, not a religious one. And your personal experience sounds like just that. An individual experience with people that have controlling personalities.
But I will fight you any day of the week when you try to blame an entire church for the actions of a couple of members. Do you know what that sounds like? Remember when people were blaming the whole Muslim religion for the actions of a few of them? Remember when people were blaming ALL people of color for the actions of a few of them? I'd bet my left nut that you weren't in support of judging entire groups of THOSE people, so I'm sorry to see you so hellbent on blaming everyone in the church for the actions of a few that you didn't like.
People keep calling the church a "cult", but they are running programs across the globe to help people. Any disaster that takes place, the church is there to help the people get their lives back. They actively teach members to help people whenever you can, to treat others with kindness and respect, and that every life matters. They are doing strong work with communities to help in any way that they can. So, are they some kind of service cult then? That gets joy out of helping their fellow man? Yeah, how terrible to work so hard in making the world a better place for everyone. 🤣
Anyhoo, I am sorry that you had some bad experiences with some people in the church, and even more sorry that you feel it's cool to blame the entire church for individual's actions, even when the actual church teachings directly contradict the actions those individuals took. 🤗😇⛪

Actually Christian church are the one that help the community not the Mormon church. You just got offended because it is true that LDS church is a cult.
I can not support a church with bad history. I mean seriously Joseph Smith was a pedophile he married a 14 year old girl and he practice poligamy. Do your own research because from what I see you have been brainwashed by this cult. Let me tell the Mormon woman look like walking zombie. I felt like a walking zombie during the time period I was at the Mormon church it was until I felt I got back And had control in my own body when the pastor prayed on me and I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior. Your church doesn't even celebrate Easter. I don't agree with the teachings of the Mormon church. I thank the Lord I had found the truth and I become a reborn Christian. The Mormon church at some point years ago wouldn't even give black men the priest hood. Mormons don't even mention the holly spirit, yet they claim that Jesus and the devil are brothers! That's not even in the christian Bible. An it talks that Joseph Smith saw Moroni Angle when Moroni wasn't even an angle it is a DEMON. Google do your research and you will be surprised. I am glad I left. I did read the book of Mormon even attended the temple and still nothing still felt like a walking zombie it was until I enter the Christian church the pastor prayed on me and guess what I was cure from deabetes. If I was still Mormon I bet I would have deabetes and never been cure. I have a high testimony that the Christian church is the rightful church because we Christian believe in Christ and not some dude name Joseph Smith , Joseph didn't die in the cross for us it was Jesus Chris. - +1 y
Bishops knew about abuse they blame the victims and defend the abuser.

This mom was shame for being a woman and her bishop instead of handling it like an adult speak to her privately the bishop goes off like a five year old.

u +1 yI think you're asking two different questions here. The first, as to why Mormoms believe they're above everyone else? Do they? I wouldn't think that they have members that are any worse than any other religious (or non-religious) belief.
And the other seems to be why they're so controlling. As someone who is not now, never has been, and never will be a Mormon, I don't know.

Yes you are absolutely right.
+1 yEvery religion believes they are above everyone else. Out of all the others they are correct in their belief after all. The difference is in how they treat those of a different belief.

Yes Sir it is a cult. They have this weird temple ceremony that for some weird reason they only allowed Mormons with a recommendation of their president sing. They make these weird secret handshakes and they dress all in this baker outfits.
