Believing in an origin story gives some people a sense of control over their life when in reality, they have none. It's unsettling for them to feel there's no purpose or meaning. Believing that behavior in life has rewards and consequences in death alleviated that fear. It may be tough now, but it'll pay off in the end. What a relief!
Modern organized religions were based on the same concept, then distorted beyond recognition. Still today, some are more comfortable putting blind faith in religion than scientific theory. They need to believe life has meaning, and that an invisible, omniscient being created the universe and everything in it, and that said being loves and protects them always and forever. Neither option can be proven, but faith offers a magical paradise where you're reconnected with all your loved ones who have died and it's full of all favorite things for all of eternity. Simple choice for a simple mind.
Nothing matters, you live, you die, your ash and nothing you did ever mattered as in the end it all ends
Some prefer to hope for something beyond, something that will last forever making something you do matter for something
In the end as long as you live there is always more you could do, and its a terrbile thing that it just ends one day..
What we want is irrelevant. Reality is all that matters. I used to not believe in ghosts. That changed. There a very clear record of near death experiences that no one can explain.
very well documented cases of people seeing things and remembering details of things around them while their body was clinically dead.
its too much to ignore and just not consider. If there’s something more, I better be prepared for it.
No afterlife, sorry. Making the most of this life can be a challenge... but there it is.
Thanks for the MHO Cassie

Most us beings don't know to renew or restore an even change the case study instead of the study change the case.
There is a into an unto us.---Live.
There is a unto an into us ----live.
Wholly is into fullness.
Holy is unto complete.
One has to get higher in church to know something like this or Fast over the times in the bible has known.
You're confused, kiddo.
What makes you think this is "life" to begin with, let alone how "real" it is?
As de Chardin puts it succinctly: "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience".
You want to become a basic, materialist, bitch too scared to believe more is out there, and more can never be known, than can be known, Then you can sit right at the back of the cave. People who want to live a life and get out there, don't need negative nannies like you holding them back.
No, I'm not "confused" at all. We ARE alive (the alternative, that we're actually dead, is incoherent), and if what we experience isn't real... then the concept of reality has no meaning to begin with. De Chardin was wrong with that statement. Why should I believe him? Where's the evidence for his point-of-view?
"More out there" - Really? Where?
The concept of an afterlife is a coping mechanism for people to get through hard times. The idea that there is a reward for their suffering is comforting.
Because going to an afterlife makes more sense than just simply ceasing to exist. What's the point of living and making memories to simply just die?
How does it make more sense? Everything that has a beginning in time also eventually comes to an end. Agree? We (i. e. people) have such beginnings (we're born), so isn't it logical to assume that we'll also cease to exist at some point in the future?
And why does life have to have "a point"?
To me it does. I'd honestly rather not have this conversation. It will make your head hurt and actually I had a mental breakdown a couple years ago, because I was thinking too deeply about this shit.
It just doesn't make any sense to me, but trying to explain it will make your head hurt
I'll PM you
Because our existence is ridden with death, suffering and ignorance. How could we possibly be satisfied with that?
