How can someone be a traditional catholic and very into evolution and psychology?

Anonymous
I have a friend who describes herself as a traditional catholic who is very intrigued with Evolution, Phycology and evolutionary psychology.

She isn’t like an evangelical fundamentalist who hates everyone who doesn’t believe like her, she accepts people despite what there religious views are.

She is otherwise very conservative feminine and holds to traditional values.

Recently she was talking relationships and how it is best for a woman to not have casual sexual relationships, and not have a high “body count” before getting married. She explained for millions of years humans developed mostly with monogamous relationships so we shouldn’t change now.

This seems odd since this would conflict with her catholic beliefs. I almost wanted to ask her how these two views could coexist in her mind but I was worried I might blow her mind or give her an existential crisis.

Maybe Catholicism is a cultural thing to her. She likes the community, the morals and philosophies, and the ability to get things off her chest to a priest without him spilling the beans; but doesn’t actually believe it fully.

Or maybe she is unaware that these two views are contradictory.

I am more of a Deist myself so I’m not pro or anti evolution.

I’m just trying to understand the psychology here.
