And now the Pope approves of same sex marriage. Brother!!
What are your thoughts of Pope Francis giving his blessings to same sex couples?
And now the Pope approves of same sex marriage. Brother!!
He did not approve same-sex marriage. It is impossible for the Church to do so and Francis himself has said as much in the past.
From what I've gathered, all that this document supposedly does is say that couples in "irregular situations" (which really just means same-sex couples, but logically also includes unmarried male-female couples that are sexually active or living together) can receive informal non-liturgical blessings. None of the actual prayers used in a wedding can be used here, neither can the priest's garments that he would normally wear for a wedding. It's all informal and non-liturgical. I'd hazard that there also wouldn't be a formal registry with the parish or diocese.
However, none of that is any less troubling if you ask me. The document also says nothing of repentance, firm resolutions of amendment of life, conversion of heart, or anything else about the conforming of one's life to the Church. That and even though it doesn't say what everyone is claiming it says, it still implies a liberalization that will not end well. The fact that Pope Francis also is more interested in berating faithful Catholics than he is in calling the world to conversion doesn't bode well either. People are still going to see this as a seal of approval on what the Church has always considered sinful.
This decision will eventually be invalidated, but not under Francis. Hopefully in the future, a conservative and orthodox pope will do so.
Here's a video that may also shed some light...
to me, he is one man and God can speak to Him as he wishes. doesn't mean everyone has to agree.
They were horrifically wrong to imagine they can subdue their desires (for mating) and end up abusing young boys. They should have been all beaten, apologized profusely instead of hiding it, disciplined for their wrongs at minimum, or major prison time... not that that sovles anything... and removed from position of authority.
Same sex couples, I don't care. I'm confident beyond all measures that if a dude puts his thing up another guys thing that outputs poo... they will not reproduce offspring. Statistical fact. Something is very wrong for sure.. hormonally, emotionally, but it's up to them to sort themselves out and between them and God, not the pope and me.
To me, the Pope is just a man, not the voice of God. He is prone to sin and error just like everyone else. The Word of God is unchangeable. If it were, then God would be contradicting Himself.
I believe that many who proclaim to know God and claim to be followers of Christ, do not know Him or follow Him at all. They twist the words of the Bible to justify their own sinful actions, and then try to cover their shame. But what is hidden in the dark is eventually brought to light, and I believe there will come a day when many of these “Christians” will have to answer for their deeds.

Protestant faiths emerged for a reason.
While the Catholic Church has on balance STILL done more good than harm, the "Liberation Theology" (Communism warmed over) and the abuses of the Jesuits (and not just homosexual pedophile ones) have disgusted me. Sadly, certain orders of the Church need auditing.
I have hope for the Opus Dei movement, namely, laity family people getting more involved in The Church. I do hope the Catholic Church goes further with this in the years to come:

more good than harm on "balance" how do you balance or put a price on torture and pain and burning alive until dead? i refer to catholic inquisition
@strateguy632 For all its notoriety and its "thought policing", which were awful, the Inquisition still only touched only a handful of people, and executed fewer people on an annual basis than does the state of Texas today (the latter really do deserve that, of course). I would cite the atrocities of the "30 years war", going on in the same time period, as a better example for you.
And even much of THAT was actually geopolitical rather than religious in nature, with "Catholic" France fighting and killing "Catholic" Spain and the "Catholic" parts of the "Holy Roman Empire", which as Voltaire humorously observed in later years was not Holy, nor Roman, nor an actual Empire. (The Protestant parts of same were fighting the Catholic ones too).
That said, for "on balance good", just look at your local hospitals and medical organizations, which all too often have Catholic non-profit origins, and their names like Dignity Health, Mercy Medical Group, Charity, Faith, etc. are telling. And when they aren't Catholic, they are nearly always Protestant or Jewish (Good Samaritan, Cedars Sinai, etc).)
That said, I do hope the Catholic Church goes further down the Opus Dei path, with laity getting involved in the affairs of their local churches more and more, just as Protestant Churches have lay people involved as Deacons or on the Board of Directors, and the minister has to answer to them. The more congregational involvement of a similar fashion in local Catholic Churches, the less ability of a cloistered elite to do something scandalous without the worshippers immediately knowing about it.
And the very idea of Opus Dei, that lay people can be godly in their day to day work, like a businessman or merchant doing godly business, or a farmer planting a godly crop, or a factory worker working in a godly way on the shop floor, etc., is an appealing one.
Religion is and has always just been a cult used to control people using their fear of an eternal afterlife of hell. There is more than enough evidence out there on the internet to disprove religion, yet people will always believe in it because they want to believe they'll exist forever in some form or way and because it's what their parents taught them and they don't want to let go of their upbringing. People who believe in religion are extremely inconsistent and make up logic to make it make sense with today's moral standards.
The Pope is just an average man with delusional beliefs. And clearly... inconsistent with his views as well.
@HawkPerception
I wonder what made the Pope do this in the first place?
People just cannot seem to just keep things the same anymore. They are always wanting to change practically everything.
so the "internet" disproves religion? but internet is not reliable sources. need reliable sources like bible etc.
apparently he heard that catholics are losing followers so he is trying to compromise to attract followers.
It was a political decision, not scriptural.
I get why he did it, but he certainly didn't do it in service of his faith.
Religion's all bullshit so, what does it matter?
@FunkyMonkee
So, I take it you are an Atheist?
Correct.
@FunkyMonkee
OMG!!! I hate that for you. Sorry.
I see no reason to believe in it.
Two guys were supposed to had sex in the chambers in Washington DC on Saturday. Just never ends!
Doesn't really mean anything tbh. He should pass a law to actually recognise same sex couples as legitimate and not sinful.
Love the sinner, hate the sin
He is pleasing men, not God
Weird 🤣🤣🤣
Hocus pocus!
