Signs You're An Introvert

There's supposedly two different ways to categorize people- as introverted or extroverted. Introverts get energy from being alone while extroverts get energy from being around other people. I'm definitely an introvert, so I decided to make a little myTake on it. Keep in mind these do not apply to everyone!

1. The "Do Not Disturb Button" Is Your Savior

I think this is pretty self-explanatory, but "Do Not Disturb" buttons are literally amazing for an introvert.

2. Reading Is A Need

It's been known that most introverts tend to love to read. It's quiet, yet adventurous. Introverts are also known for having a lot in their mind, which is probably why they're well linked to reading.

3. Your Friends Probably Go By These Rules

Hopefully your friends will understand your introversion, and if they do they will more than likely understand most of these rules.

4. You Daydream.....A Lot

Introverts don't speak their mind very often. And with all the time not speaking to others, they're speaking to themselves. Filling their mind with whatever creativite thing they can imagine.

5. Meeting New People Is Hard

Ah, the struggle. You try to avoid social conversation with people you aren't comfortable with or used to. But sometimes you're forced to meet someone new whether it be for work, school, or whatever. And usually you might come off as a little shy to the other person.

6. You're A Great Listener

Your friends probably love you, because chances are you don't like to talk much. But not talking much can mean you're a great listener. Or maybe not. While they're talking you might be daydreaming and whatnot, but your friends will still love you for letting them rant on.

7. Movie Nights

Movie nights with a few friends are basically your version of going to a party. Although you don't have much fun at parties and such, that doesn't mean you don't want to hang out with people! Things like movie nights can beat a loud party for you any day.

8. You're A Little Camera Shy

Selfies on Instagram? Nope. Snapchat? I'll send you a picture of my dog.

Most introverts probably don't like to take pictures of themselves. Maybe if you're with a group of friends on occasion, sure. Otherwise you more than likely won't use the camera for your face.

9. You're Super Creative

Introverts are super creative (most of the time). They tend to think more and their minds are constantly filling up with these new views on life. They tend to draw more and be more interested in things like fine arts and literature. This, of course, doesn't apply to every introvert.

Very nice take, I feel that many of these apply to me, of course I have known for some time that I'm introverted. My wife calls me a hermit, and most of the time I'm fine with that label. Oddly enough though sometimes she uses my tendencies to her advantage, by blaming me to get out of social activities. ;-)

I always recommend that people take the MBTI test, that gives you a very detailed description of your personality on four spectrums: introvert v extrovert, sensing v intuition, thinking v feeling and judging v perceiving :)

so true... except with the selfie part. I'm not going to lie, I do like taking selfies of myself when I feel I look awesome, and I may post 1 or 2 on instagram or snapchat here and there (lately I'm trying to not post any selfies so i don't look too in love with myself, and it probably annoys the viewers who see it lol. I really do tend to express myself and conduct my opinions better online... because I have time to think/analuze and research... as opposed to being in person, I usually trip up with words and sound like a complete dodo head lol because I have to conduct myself well on the spot without preparation. Moving alone with one and one conversations... it depends on the person, but most of the time I never like one on one because feel I have too much pressure to not be awkward and be all fun/talkative with that ONE other person (I get uncomfortable. At least in a group, the pressure to talk is not all on me, and i just listen to multiple people (I love listening) and then pitch in my thought or opinion when i really want to... I think I'm the only introvert who likes it better like that. everything else is spot on. I love daydreaming and fantasizing. people tend to tell me I look high because Im always spaced out and looking at the distance as I think and think. lol

this is pretty accurate. but I thin that many introverts need some kind of outlet besides being creative, especially when they don't discover their creativity early. like for me I always had a hard time trying to be like everybody else, played a lot of video games and things like that, but at the time so were all my friends (which I no longer know). but at the time all guys were doing it, so I thought I was fitting in, or just like other kids, except that I was quiet.

Skateboarding was an activity which was incredibly important for my independence. I could do it almost anytime, with or without friends. it is the most incredible activity, especially for loners. too bad that winter always comes and made me stop doing it all the time, but it was still fun.

It wasn't until my friends started playing guitar, then I started that I found something I really liked and discovered I could be creative with. nowadays I write my own songs, lyrics, guitar, bass and computer drums, and record my own songs... mostly for myself. but I still like it, and don't do it enough... can't get away from people into a private place very often.

Yep, I follow all of these but numbers 1 and 2.
1.) I don't need to hit the do not disturb button since none of my friends like to text or call 😎
2.) I don't read and don't really like it. Instead I watch sci fi movies and do music alone all the time haha

All apply to me except for number 8. Also I tend to keep headphones on in public the majority of the time just to deter people from approaching me regardless if they're plugged in or not, outside of that I can't explain it, sort of gives me a secure feeling. And I have a tendency to take longer than I should to reply back to text messages, I think (figuratively) of 1,000 probable responces that I could give and how people may react, and when I do respond I feel exhausted and they cannot understand why I took so long to reply.

That may have happend to me twice, but for the most part it's worked. I guess it depends on the company.
I used to wear hats to deter people, but that seemed to 'magically' turn into a blinking arrow of unwanted attention.

Most of these apply to me. As for parties, I can have fun if it is a family gathering or just a small get-together where the friend to stranger ratio is usually more skewed in my favor. I like meetings new people, but not necessarily all at once or at certain times. Also, I don't mind taking selfies though I avoid posting so many that it appears I am self-absorbed. I do post a lot of memes and funny pictures though. I would add that introverts likely tend to show more representation online. Anyway, good take! 😊

I'm starting to come to terms with my introvert status, and an INTP.

It's not that I hate talking, I hate people, I get nervous around people, or anything like that. I think people are awesome. I love talking to people. I like watching people have fun and do crazy things. I like learning about people. And I am totally comfortable chatting with a complete stranger.

But I can go huge spans of time without human contact, and feel perfectly fine. (With the exception that I feel like going without human contact is problematic.)

I don't NEED human contact all the time. And I feel like I don't get as much done around people, because I feel like I need to organize things, read stuff, and learn stuff. I do a lot more thinking and typing than I do talking. And I analyze everything like I'm trying to simplify a differential equation.

some of these apply to me, but no all. I'm not afraid to meet new people and make new friends. I can speak up when needed but I'm usually quiet.

However I have to tell you that being a MALE INTROVERT in the USA sucks. When it comes to the dating scene it is 100 times harder to be a male introvert vs a female introvert. We are expected to take initiative on everything.

Gawd I totally agree.

The USA has a complete hardon for extroverts. It's like a competition to see just how extroverted you can be. Then you go over to other countries and everyone knows you are the American there, because people can't hear themselves talk over your boastful loudness.

In other countries, this is a turn-off at least half the time. In the US, it's like you aren't a real man unless you are actively trying to impose yourself on everyone else.

When I was my early 20s I used to speak up against being an "American idiot"... but at the same time I didn't want to sound unpatriotic (I'm a moderate conservative). However it has been extremely frustrating and depressing that girls would pass me up for loud mouth douche bags when I was younger. When I got in my late 20s I learned to be more forward and did much better with women (some of the girls were growing up too).. However I'm not always comfortable in social situations.

I get what you mean. And yeah for some reason the US doesn't seem as favorable for introverts as it is for extroverts.

I'm 50/50. I am introverted for the most part, but I'm also the social flagship of my group. I'm the only one willing to take initiative in getting things done, which means I'm the one doing all the planning and talking. I'm either outside of my house with friends, or inside my room alone. I don't like doing with other people what I can do alone in my room, so if I do leave my room, it's to go outside and be around other people. I don't like parties or large groups, but I do love observing crowds quietly from afar. I prefer my small group of 4, and I'm not looking to expand.

I guess I'm living proof that introversion and extraversion are NOT EXCLUSIVE. Because about half these things are true for me and the other half are the opposite of me.

My psychology teacher made sure we understood that the vast majority of people are not 100% intro or extro. Everyone has a mix and its useless to label yourself because then you're just limiting yourself.

never thought of that... thats interesting. Its true that majority or 85 percent of the time I like being alone or daydreaming/pondering... but then I have my random moments of extroversion where I want to be talkative and meet certain people.. its like these spontaneous bursts of energy

The daydreaming thing is so true. I sometimes struggle to find things to say to people but my mind has no problems just thinking of random scenarios and thinking about problems and their solutions. I just don't think it really translates well to normal conversation anyways if you're not dealing with really open minded type people.

Yep all of that is me except the reading and movies. I don't like to read or watch TV. Like when I'm at home, I'm always in my room except for when I'm eating or drinking something that's not plain water. And it is really hard with meeting new people or talking to people until I be around them more. I do get shy. And it's weird because at the same time it's like I'm part introvert and part social. And I have autism so that affects the social aspect and such

Introversion is always confused wit shyness... I can confidently carry a conversation , I also deal with people at my work in my brutally blunt & no nonsense manner... but am so glad to escape them , I MUST have my own space , & too many people are just self absorbed idiots anyway. I consider myself to be both an introvert and extrovert. When I meet people for the first time, or when I'm out in public and surrounded by strangers, I'm a wall flower or a ghost (depending on how many people are in my vicinity). But when I'm with friends, I'm usually the most extroverted one in the room lol

You could be an ambivert. It's when people share similarities from both introversion or extroversion. Of course introverts don't want to be alone all the time, though too.
