To be honest, I didn't know what white privilege was at first but I looked it up and did some research. Now that I know more, I think it's fucking dumb.

I will say this- yes I AM a white girl, so of course this might get "white privilege" BS comments but hey, that's what the internet users do.

Just I have one thing to say: All races are equal. I don't find one race to be above another. I do not support racism in any way, shape or form. Against ANY race. Sure, I'll make a racist joke about Asians and math or blacks and watermelon, but I also make jokes about white people and asking "Who's there?" in a horror movie. I joke like that to be funny. If anyone takes offense to it, I apologize sincerely.

I believe white privilege exists, and I also believe it is fucking dumb.

Now I am not going to deal with any racist bull shit, so please, leave your racist ass off of this mytake if you try being a dick to someone because they're black, or white, or any color in the fucking rainbow.

I don't see color when I look at people. I don't see gender. I don't see age or sexuality. I see human beings who're diverse, different, unique, anything that goes along those terms. I see people who're assholes, who're kind, who're a bit of both. It does not matter what color we are, because the color is only skin deep. It does not define who we are, unless we allow it to.

Those people above are bullshitters and nobody likes people like that, neither if you're a racist.

It exists beyond belief. I have a black-latina mom and a white-hispanic (he's basically see through he's so white) dad. I look like a straight up Colombiana. I'm gonna say it out right- my dad is a complete idiot, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
Everyone has always treated him with respect and always gave him the benefit of the doubt and he somehow managed to get a fairly high paying job despite being bad at what he does.
My mother on the other hand, has always experienced the surprise of when her employers find out she's actually useful and educated. I live in Oakland. Half of our population is black. And I bet damn well the majority of those and the rest of the nonwhites in Oakland have been looked at by the police as an enemy. The only way you get out of that is if you live in the multimillion dollar homes here and not everyone has that money.
I'm tired of seeing women cluth their handbags when a black man walks by, or gets intimidated by somewhat loud music. I'm tired of seeing colored people dismissed and only hired or tolerated because society says so. No one should live in fear of the police. No one should live in fear of the discrimination they might face at school, work, or even public just because they're not white.
Personally, most cops in Oakland and the surrounding area somewhat respect me until I start speaking Spanish. I see their demeanor change and they have a slight eyeroll. Really? If cops need to search my bag and I'm with a group of white kids, guess who's first in line.
Hell for what I know I was almost raped and the assholes responsible never were persecuted but I was because I punched one to get away and the cops said "oh I just thought you'd be the type to lie about it". Seriously? Denying an issue isn't gonna solve it. People shouldn't live in fear

That in itself is a racist statement because you're essentially ignoring that racism exists when you say that. It's all fine and dandy that you want things to be equal, but they aren't. When you say that you "don't see color" you're completely disregarding the struggles of minorities and what they face on a daily basis BECAUSE of their color. Not only that, but you're also disregarding their cultures and ancestors. We aren't all the same, we have different backgrounds. And race is a part of that. Making such a blanket statement makes it seem like you don't care about race (which you should because there are still plenty of racial issues going on today) and that you're disregarding the struggles of anyone who basically isn't white because it makes you too uncomfortable to recognize that white people are, in fact, privileged.

Same crime. Same day. Same reporter. And for some reason that reporter felt like the white dudes deserved a representable yearbook photo whereas the black dudes deserved mugshots. Why didn't the white dudes get their mugshots shown as well? White privilege. Even when white people commit a crime, apparently they deserve to get their yearbook photos printed if they're educated and look like "nice" white people.
White privilege exists whether you like it or not. We, as white people, get the upper hand in a lot of cases. Such as representation in the media. Look at all those white Disney princesses. Look at all the actors and actresses in the movies. Mainly white. And the Oscars last year? Only white people were nominated.
Does having white privilege automatically mean that you can't struggle in your life? Of course not. You can still struggle even if you have some privileges. But that doesn't mean you don't have those privileges or that they "don't exist" because you "can't feel them". Of course you can't really feel your privilege when it's something you've had your entire life, grown comfortable with and accustomed to.

It's one thing to say you don't treat people differently based on race. It's another to claim that "you don't see color" when in fact, you fucking do, and it's pointless to claim otherwise. That statement is constantly used to ignore and diminish the struggles, as well as the cultures, of minorities. Add that to the fact that we are ALL a bit biased and a bit racist in some way, and you've got yourself a paradox.
And why would the reporter conveniently only have white yearbook photos and black mugshots available? :) This is not a one time thing either, it happens constantly that black people are poorly portrayed in the media whereas white people get a nice representation, even when they've done something wrong.

So by definition it should be minority privledge because privledge by definition means: a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people. Something of which whites do not have in their own countries but minorities do.

White people are treated at a different standard to other races/ethnicities/cultures. Usually when white people do something, it's suddenly socially acceptable even if people of other races had been doing it long before. If you want equality, you should be working through the problem rather than just call it dumb then metaphorically walk around it. Just to start, I will say. Im white and im male. So I can only say what I see from my perspective.

Some people push the idea that white men rule the western world and they are pretty much right. Look at the vast majority of people who make up the top jobs in private industry and the government. In the west its almost exclusively white men. So I can see why people think there is white, male privilege.

But I think people always seem to leave out the one difference that actually bring privilege. MONEY. Almost all those people are privately educated in a few select schools and come from wealthy families.

So when you stop thinking in terms of race or sex and start thinking in terms of money, you will realise that there are also loads of white men without any privilege at all. And the soon we stop dividing ourselves into groups and start thinking about joining up as poor people against the rich ones controlling the systems that run the country, the sooner we can make changes to government and laws that keep the minority wealthy and the majority poor.

Unfortunately it didn't happen after the crash in 2008, so if that didn't piss people off enough to forget their differences and get organised against the real cause of poverty, then I don't think anything ever will.

So for now, we will carry on being divided and run by the rich and the privileged.

I think people are getting the wrong notion of what white privilege even is. There are definitely some people who don't work hard and use white privilege or the racism card when things don't go there way.

I agree. There is white privilege that goes on but honestly in a lot of different aspects we white people have it just as hard. You don't get as much aid for college because you aren't hispanic or black and neither do you get the same amount of financial aid. My aunt has a job that pays only 10.58 an hour and she don't see her ass getting helped when she needs the aid. But other poor people who are black get help right away and have even veen surprised to hear that it wasn't the same for our kind of people when we talk to them.

What you encountered was racism from one person in that instance and doesn't mean that I somehow have privileges because of that.

As far as my situation, it may not be applied to all aspects of society, but as far as scholarships are considered you have an advantage over me because of your skin color. I'm white from a wealthy town and I went to private school my whole life but I was offered multiple full academic scholarships to college because my grades and test scores were as good as anyone so I think that kind of negates your argument. There is a lot of affirmative action by schools now but if you're smart enough and you work hard you'll get scholarships regardless of your race

For the last several thousand years roman times weve been seeing color. It became global after the European invasion and conquer of Christianity. Fact is the white race have been in power since forever ( fyi im white) . We have been born and raised in racism , institutionalized racism, we think its ok to compare every group's struggles to black struggles which is racist. Do we have a problem with white wash or white privilege? Ofcourse but we also have a problem with people not wanting to see the problems in their own community and fixing it , its easier to blame white people. I think , no i know it won't change because we still separate ourselves by a social construct (race) and most fail to see we are all children of god. their is no difference between us so why do we choose to separate ourselves?

Growing up, I only discovered racism to be true upon those who are either considered wealthy or placed in area's of hateful intolerance.

White privilege probably does exist to some extent, but I've never seen it or experienced it personally. The news is jaded, but I can honestly see it happening for those who are already in a place of bigotry. For most of us who live, or work in area's where all races are to be found. White privilege seems to be non-existent, but again that's just my findings.

I grew up in the ghetto surrounded by blacks, hispanics, whites, and Asians. No race was treated better than the next. The cops all gave us the same looks, our parents all whooped our butts, and we all sat at the same table eating our lunches at school. Those of us with the grades to do so. Went on going to college and most of us paid for it ourselves or did our best to get some government assistance. No man or woman walked away unscathed from where we came from.

I still think that guy is offbeat. TLC makes those shows because it's considered sensational, because it's considered strange that anybody raised in traditional western culture would flock toward these deviations from the norm.

It's the whole: "Hey everyone, look at these bizarre deviants doing deviant things that you'd expect in a third-world country! Let's all watch like little voyeurs as this slowly becomes a train wreck!"

It's not about "privilege." It's just emotional porn. Targeting white deviants for celebrity status is a way of saying: "This could be you too, not just 'them', but YOU!"

can't say I really believe in this "white privilege" thing. People list supposed benefits with being white without talking about the bad ones of being white yet list bad sides only regarding other races. Like for example it seems to me anyone can be racist towards a white person and that is okay and acceptable and you even hear insane statements like that you can't be racist towards a white person even, a white person can also get called a racist so easily over none racist statements too which happens all the time. Where is this privilege for example? cause seems to me everyone else has a privilege to be racist and make racist comments unless you are white.

And lets not forget either, overall white people are a minority too.

I agreed that, in most cases, white privilege seems to be a cop out for non-white people to justify times they made not so wise decisions and only realize that in hindsight.

However, I'm not sure how applicable the first meme is. If they made a show like '19 and counting' about a black family, I can only imagine how many people that would get saying that it's racist. The marriage thing.. mostly cultural versus a racial divide. The shaming for arranged marriages is carried out not exclusively by white people. I've had that discussion with many non-whites who shared the same disagreement with it. I'd say that's more of a Western than white view... but of course, nobody wants to share the blame so let's just throw it on the white people. -_-

It would not matter if it were a black family with TWO parents. But their version, in all likelihood (and I don't care who trashes me for saying this) but the show would be a woman raising those kids ALONE. Without the father! The problem is not 'white privilege,' it's the breakdown of the two parent household in minority communities. I say this because I left my husband and know the struggle of the single parent first hand. But black men need to take responsibility for having kids and then deserting the poor women who trusted them to raise kids and suffer alone. The kids pay the price WITH the woman/mother. Not too smart to let dad's who acted like sperm donors off the hook.

How can you honestly believe that to be true? No race deserves to be more priveledged than another. The Egyptians, Babylonians, incas, and Aztecs weren't white and they were some of the ancient civilisations of the world. White people may have invented a lot but they have also caused whole tribes to be wiped out and civilisations destroyed. Why do we deserve privilege for that?

Why do people need to make these things about them and us. We are all humans, who feel, love, hurt and suffer. The colour of our skin doesn't change that fact. I don't understand why people make such a big deal out of it

China, African countries, japan, most Asian countries dont cater for white people and white beliefs. Why should white people bend over and accomodate the whole world? I think there are a lot of things that give people privileges. For example:being born into a wealthy family, having an attractive appearance, high IQ, healthy and stable family life, height, etc. I think its too simplistic to look at two people and assume the white skinned one has an easier life just because they have white skin. If ALL other factors are similar and the main difference between the two is skin color then yeah, the white one probably has a few less negative things to deal with. However nobody ever looks at the other factors, they just think white person=privledged and black person=opressed.

Also white privilege would only apply in certain countries. Have an white person go live in Mexico or a country in Africa. Chances are they will be discriminated against and targeted for theft, assault, abduction, and even murder. Their white privilege won't save them there.

In Cuba no one goes without health care or education or food or work it music or community... There are more Drs and teachers three rebatable to population than any other country. No children sleep in the street.

The same can not be said of the United states. You can travel to places in the United States where it's like living in a third world.. You don't need to get on a plane to feel how good you have it.

in south Africa affirmative action has been used to such an aggressive extent that WHITE men, who have the grades to get into various prestigious universities are now finding that it is MORE difficult for them to get into these schools these black people with lower GPAs.
