How the Extreme Left Has Regressed Into Ideological Intolerance & Intellectual Purgatory

I know what many of you must be thinking "what is this right-wing cis white male trying to tell us about how the left is regressing it's so bias, have you seen your side?". Well, the thing is l am a leftist & am not white (l will explain why mentioning race is relevant later). The reason l am writing this my take is due to an increasing sect of the left wing that is concerning me. This sect is becoming more mainstream and it's just frankly annoying seeing them everywhere spreading non-issues and disguising them as some sort of human rights issues. I am aware the right wing has it's host of issues but that doesn't mean the left can escape any criticism just because it's seen as more "woke". Below l will list the reasons for my concerns and detail them by section.

My top reasons why the far left has lost tolerance & intellectual ability:

1. The far-left has no tolerance for ideas & perspectives that differ from theirs.

2. The far-left has abandoned science, evidence, & common sense to promote feelings.

3. The far-left has become extremely sexist, bigoted, & divisive in order to promote tolerance.

In many college campuses around America students of far-left ideology have continued to shut down free speech on college campuses because it does not agree and align exactly with their ideals. Instead of respecting the principle of free speech and letting conservatives or other speakers of different ideologies and philosophies partake in the exchange of ideas in a learning environment they try to shun them in the name of tolerance.

This kind of action only resembles that these groups have no value for the practice of civil discourse. If they don't manage to shut down the event they continue to interrupt the event for other attendees. The ones that do "debate" the speaker at the event have no social decorum & respect for anybody. Even if the speaker shows respect & tolerance towards them they don't reciprocate. The only speech that comes out of these "activist" resembles that of zoo animals with unhinged tendencies.

This kind of ignorant neglect towards others views only leads to divisiveness. This behavior is counterproductive to getting anything accomplished. This misrepresents the idea that the left is pro-diversity when you can't even entertain the ideas of others without getting triggered. This only shows that you care about identity rather than their ideas and values as a human being. This in itself is a form of intolerance & one that stomps on the very premise of this country. The very leaders that you admire & support like Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, & Barack Obama would be ashamed of this display of blatant discrimination of ideas. No matter your ideology the least you can do is return respect that has been given to you. (I recommend watching the video its long but it will surprise you)

2. The far-left has abandoned science, evidence, & common sense to promote feelings

I am aware that many of you support rights & the disenfranchised and come from a good place but ignoring facts & science is absurd. On many issues, you wish to promote:

Factual Fallacies:

- Equal pay for women because of the gender wage gap favors men due to sexism (NOT A FACT)

- Believing men & women think the same & are biologically the same (NOT A FACT)

- Believing that video games contribute to women objectification (NOT A FACT)

Common Sense Errors:

- Believing that microaggressions are some kind of emotional assault that needs retributions

- Believing that safe spaces are needed to escape unpopular opinions

- Believing and creating privilege meters to measure oppression based solely on identity factors

- Believing cultural appropriation is an actual issue that needs to be addressed as if culture belongs to any individual subset group of people.

- Believing that being offended is more important than protecting free speech.

These issues keep being perpetuated as if they have any merit & importance. Many of you hide in this tribal group think complex (the far right does this too) and think that achieving a society where no one is offended or triggered is paramount even at the cost of factual evidence. The left is supposed to champion science & facts and not perpetuate nonsensical talking points that have been debunked by evidence. Even someone that l admire in Obama has claimed false truths to pander to the far-left sect with statistically proven evidence suggesting otherwise (pay gap). Many of you ridicule the right for their lack of evidence & fallacies but yet promote your own, this is not correct.

3. The far-left has become extremely sexist, bigoted, & divisive in order to promote tolerance

This is one of the points that baffles me the most due to its ironic nature. The whole premise of discrediting a person due to their skin color or sexual orientation and preventing it is the core mission of the far-left sect and yet it seems that they partake in this behavior. Countless times have l seen an opinion of someone shot down solely based on the premise that the person giving their opinion is a cis white male. White people specifically white males are barred from having any opinion due to any matter based on their skin color. That in itself is discriminatory and bigoted yet this type of behavior is acceptable because Joe's ancestors were oppressors of other groups of people.

This argument is just absurd, so basically Joe is forever barred from having an opinion because his ancestor could have been an oppressor. Why can't we treat Joe like an individual instead of judging him by actions he did not commit? The only way he is allowed to have a say in the conversation is if he believes in your specific ideas. This closes off dialogue nobody likes to be told they have "privilege" & must agree to everything you believe because if he does not he must be a racist, alt-right, or a male chauvinist pig. This type of ideology fuels the flames of radicals & feeds into the divide. Suppressing opinions from people regardless of race, religion, or creed leads down a road to dangerous ideologies that human history has experienced in the past.

These points you brought up I have noticed in the left for quite awhile... almost 20 years now. lol!

It was not until recently, during the Republican primaries, that I noticed this same behavior in the right or at least to the degree I see it in the left.

On twitter during this time, often I would see so called conservatives block or unfollow fellow conservatives because they did not like Trump and did not think he was a good candidate.

Also, during this time, I would hear callers of the Dennis Prager show call in and say that they have been listening to him for 30 years and so admired him but now they could not respect him because he did not think Trump was a good option as President. lol!

If you ever listen to Dennis Prager, you would see why I find that so humorous. I think he is one of the most, if not *the* most, critical thinker I have ever come across.

Actually, if you live in Southern California you could listen to him on 870 AM from 9-12am M-F. He says give him two weeks of listening but I think after one, you will be hooked.

If you want to hear a rational conservative, I would give him a try. With that said, if you could recommend a rational leftist, who would you recommend?

Hello thank you fo sharing your similar experience. If l had to recommend rational intectualls that are left leaning l would recommend:
- Dave Rubin (is a left leaning libertarian who isn’t afraid to speak with different ideologies and try understand them)
- Joe Rogan (left leaning relaxed and open minded person)
- Bill Mhar (is more on the left but doesn’t stand for the SJW bs in the left, really hates pc culture)
- Sam Harris (is left leaning but is a real intellectual, it’s enjoying to hear him speak about topics without inserting ridiculous bias)

These are a few commentators that l have listened to and have had rational takes on most subjects. Depends on which style you prefer. If you like a relaxed talk show type then joe Rogan is a safe bet. If you really enjoy hearing an intellectual than Sam Harris would be a good listen.

I've liked Prager's ideads from little I've seen of him, he is effectively defending Classical Liberal values. But there are also negatives like his insistence on religion or criticizing Conservative Intellectuals for being secular in outlook, or his views on foreign policy. American Exceptionalism that America has the right to be world police.

Dave Rubin is Classical Liberal not left leaning Libertarian.

He holds many socially left leaning views as he once was part of the progressives. He had evolved in ideology but some of his left leaning tendencies has not left him. Even Libertarians don't consider themselves Classical Liberals and many do try to distinguish themselves. Though Libertarians consider Classical Liberals part of one of the branches of Libertarian. Talking to actual Libertarians Rubin has made it clear he is Classical Liberal. Also Libertarian is too wide ideologically that has been the problem for Libertarians. Classical Liberals cluster closely, and Individualism is the foundation Classical Liberalism Stands on. It is true there are more similarities between Libertarians and Classical Liberals because ideologically they are based on Enlightenment Values, what we call Universal Values today. One major difference which Rubin also states is C. Liberals are in favour of basic welfare.

In the spring of 2017, the New York Times claimed there was "no evidence" the Trump campaign was spied on.

Nancy Pelosi, the second-highest ranking Democrat in Congress, just a couple days ago said consumer confidence was low. Consumer confidence is at a 18-year high according to the latest reports (which came out before Pelosi made the claim).

The left does not have a single fact on its side, not one. What they do have is conjecture, which has the appearance of facts, and leftists do not do any fact-checking of their own to get the full story. LIberalism is everywhere. Around 95 of the world's largest news media are owned by liberals. Most of the entertainment industry is owned by liberals, both movie and music. The first degree a college offers is a Liberal Arts Degree. Grade school text books are full of the bias liberal ideals and agenda.

Impressionable young people are swimming in the liberal agenda. And it is difficult for someone who is not into that world to understand why these young people can't see what they have been suckered into believing and following.

A lot of these people who realized this are the ones who got Donald Trump elected. And his popularity is growing. I would bet my jeep against $1,000 that Trump will win a second term and by a larger percentage. The next election will not be as easily rigged by the democrats. And yes, I also feel bad for Bernie Sanders as Clinton and the DNC ganged up against him to make sure he would not be on the ballot. Even tho he had a much larger support base than Clinton.

If those crooked liberals keep going the way they have i expect to see the libertarian party replace the democrats as one of the two top parties in the USA.

When I imagine the far left, I imagine a lone figure standing in the middle of the street. One day they woke up with what they perceive to be a bruise. They think "I don't want a bruise" so they start shooting themselves in the foot. The bruise doesn't go away and now their foot is gushing blood. They have to wobbly- hop on one leg to look around.

Around them they see happy, healthy individuals who are able to walk. They don't want to be the only one. Somebody comes up to them and says "you should get that checked out in the hospital." They start Hopping after them trying to shoot them in the foot, figuring if they're also wounded they won't be the only one. The other person flees and they shout "ableist scum" and hop after, trying to shoot them in the leg.

Great take and observation. When your team no longer represents your values and beliefs then I think, it's time for you to re-evaluate your political standpoint and there is nothing wrong with that.

You see for me, I served in the military. Very Very few of the Combat related guys like me, would consider leaning to the left. As a matter of fact, I consider myself as a Patriot, and that is leaning to the very right.

What most people don't know is that I too considered myself a democrat in my younger years. I voted first time as a democrat, and even bought my first gun as a democrat. Basing your speech on emotions is the only way for them to have power, because they don't have the evidences and the arguments to actually prove what they're saying. So they just support emotions, being offended.
The thing is they are actually really racists and sexists, as they support difference of treatement between groups of people, and all against a common enemy: the big bad straight white man. OK, I see that, and I agree up to a point.

That point is that sheer weight of numbers ensures that your choice of life is unlikely to be offended by a crushing majority of people around you. You're unlikely to live in a town where you're one of three or four (forgive the assumption) Christians and everyone else is Muslim, Satanist or Atheist and despises your choice. If you did, you might feel you need support, too.

From my point of view, the desire to protect the right to give offence sounds like a desire to give offence, and I don't understand why would someone would intentionally want to do that.

@goaded Well, it's not rooted in the desire to give offense (Don't get me wrong some people intentionally do want to offend & enjoy doing so). It's up to the individual to be a decent good human being and respect peoples personal views & feelings. For example, if a transgender wants me to identify them to a particular term l will because l respect their personal identity to be called what he/she/other wishes to be called. Now the government should not intervene in forcing people to use however number of terms people want to be identified as. The reason for this is because the government would be censoring non-threating speech which is a horrible thing. This not about openly wanting to be bigoted it's about respecting peoples right to an opinion no matter how "jerky" it is as long as it does not directly incite violence then the government should stay away.

Any sign of individualism will make you a target of the far left. There is no such thing as allies to these people, only enemies and future enemies.

The recent Starbucks episode is a prime example, Starbucks has twisted itself into a pretzal to satisfy the far left. One tiny issue where a couple black guys ended up getting escorted out of a store for tresspassing and suddenly the chain is under fierce attack from the left.

While it's true that this isn't a fact per se, stating it's false is intellectually lazy. The number is much lower than a lot of prominent groups like to say (certainly not 77 or 79%), but it can't be said that the gender wage gap doesn't favor men due to sexism. That'd be false.

Its not just extreme left, its leftwing in general now. That's the problem. Sure more extreme behaviour is expressed by radical left, a lot of the ideologies are norm within left now. In UK even though radical left is not as influential as in America, your average left still holds those views, like Identity Politics and Political Correctness. They try to downplay radical left. The left is critical to balance the radical ideologues on the right. They need each other to balance out, this notion that the whole left spectrum is radical and insane is just like assuming the conservative right is nothing but a bunch of extreme racist ready to impose its will. That's where the horseshoe theory comes in, there are radicals in both sides. What I was saying in my comments above its not as small of a minority as you suggested. A lot of the PC and Identity Politics or other things you may consider part of radical left also permeate further in left. I'm not suggesting all of left is like that but proportion is a lot bigger. Actual leftwing have no idea how to deal with it. Look at NYT read the articles from 5 years ago and today. Look at the current Munk debate where it was leftwing Stephen Fry trying to express these same points.
