Most people who are smoking it now were already smoking it. It just became legal here (California) in January but it was already used pretty openly; it was so easy to get a medical use card that anyone who made the effort could do so. So I don't think legalization will make it that much more widely used.
Canadian here. and to be honest a few people who never tried it may start but for the most part. people who are into that were already doing it illegally. I still grow my own and even sell some. all legalizing it did was make me not worry asmuch.
I mentioned in the MyTake why I smoke weed. Either to relax or to boost my creativity through allowing me to perceive things from a slightly different perspective.
I didn't read beacseu I am not interested in the use of weed. And in order to relax you need to think about the solutions to your problem not to turn off your brain. And how creative have you become?
if you're not going to read it and you're not interested in the use of weed then why are you asking me questions? Evidently everything I say will simply lead to you disagreeing or challenging the point. Nothing will be gained from either side. However, I will answer the questions you asked. People relax in a number of different ways. I don't always smoke weed when I need to relax but sometimes I do. As I said in the MyTake, I'm still an active person. I workout consistently, I work hard at my job, and I still manage to everything I need to do on any given day. What I do isn't any different to someone having an alcoholic drink or staying in with a pizza and soft drinks to watch a movie. Also, my brain doesn't turn off. That only happens when people smoke too much. I don't enjoy that feeling and so I don't do it. Pretty creative I'd say. I write a lot when I'm high and will often work on my short stories and/or my novel. Not to mention various blog posts, reviews, and other things.
I am curious about why people smoke it. I am not interested in smoking it myself. Got it? Do you smoke weed before writing your takes about religion? Because it looks like it
Most of the MyTake is about the concept of smoking rather than a "how to" guide. Do you mean my Penguinism ones? If so, I can certainly understand why you would think that but no, those are just a result of boredom rather than any psychoactive substances.
What's stupid about it? It may be ridiculous, sure, but I would have to disagree with something creative being classed as stupid. I also wrote that post to illustrate a more finely tuned point and so I don't think "stupid" does your opinion justice, unless you can give me examples as to what aspect of it is stupid?
ok here's one. Humans are hardwired to seek situations of liminality in which they can feel and act completely differently from regular life. This occurs in a variety of situations, like festivals, parties, plays and yes drinking and drug taking. There's also evidence to suggest human evolved alongside certain chemicals and are programmed to exploit them, there are specific cannabinoid receptors in the brain for example. Of course there's never going to be a good enough answer for you queeny, but for many of us drug taking is similar to other forms of relaxation.
@thedivaa Well it's supposed to be a parallel to modern day religions as well as an exploration of older mythologies and lost civilisations. It's a culmination of various ideas to form a satirical, yet spiritual, tale of Steve, the Almighty Penguin (Fish Be around Him). Calling it "stupid" implies that it lacks intelligence and/or common sense. Yet there's actually a great deal of intelligence involved behind the curtains of the story, perhaps you aren't familiar with some of the ideas i'm referencing but that's on you, not me. It largely relates to the shift of the Earth's climate and the Younger Dryas period which took place at the end of the last Ice Ages i. e. about 11,500 years ago. This was most likely brought on my a series of asteroid impacts. Similarly, it doesn't lack common sense beyond what every other religion does. Does that answer your question? I can keep going.
@lilaqua Just to avoid confusion, she's actually not commenting on weed anymore. Instead, she's referring to one of my other MyTakes (one focused on religion) and after implying that I must have been high to write it, she moved on to just claiming it was "stupid".
Perhaps what you're referring to is the impact of heavy marijuana use on brains that aren't fully developed e. g. adolescents. However, this is due less to the weed and more to the heavy use of a psychoactive substance on an undeveloped brain as similar effects were shown with legal substances such as tobacco and alcohol.
Learning about weed is a waste of time. I better spend my time on really important things. I told you a while ago that people who choose to solve their problems or be stress free through turning off their brains can't be taken seriously
Sure, but you're throwing insults at people and making claims that are false. If you don't want to learn about a topic, that's fine, but if that's the case then you're probably best staying away from such conversation. I responded to that comment by telling you that I don't seek to turn off my brain, quite the opposite. I would completely agree with you that turning off your brain to solve problems or be stress free is silly. You also didn't give me any examples as to why my MyTake was stupid. I gave your several examples as to why it isn't.
Why? I write lots of things when I'm bored. It isn't reflective of the content. I've written hugely informative articles while bored just as I've written those verging more towards the ridiculous side of things. If you don't want to read it, don't read it. It just brings us back to this idea that you're throwing insults at people without actually knowing what you're talking about. Besides, as I said, I actually put a lot of thought into that post and while it is undoubtedly ridiculous, I'll be able to defend any and every quote you throw my way because as I mentioned, there was actually a lot of different ideas that went into it.
why do people have such strong feeling on things there ignorant about, the study your most likely referring to is the study where they gave the monkey to much weed and not enough oxygen, it wasn't from to much weed but to little oxygen that caused the brain damage. but remain ignorant and spouting bullchit if that's what you want to do.
cammy137 she's ether trolling or unbelievably stupid, ether way its a waist of your time responding to her, ps your mytake was good and hit on some important points that people need to talk about.
lol your a dumbass, I've only used weed about 5 times when i was younger, and as far as me being stupid i have an IQ around 132, i also started my first online store at the age of 19, meanwhile you on the other hand are a moron who got into an argument on a subject you admittedly don't know anything about and have no intention of learning about, you have show your ignorance multiple times here. my intelligence is one of my best traits, meanwhile the only value you possess is that hole between your legs and how well you can please a man, your nothing but an airheaded bimbo of low worth lol.
She's a troll, i've had many interactions with her before. Her stance is always: "this is my opinion and any facts or figures are irrelevant because educating myself on such a topic is stupid". That statement that she said just before you last reply, she had said the same thing about 3 times in this thread alone, despite the fact that I've responded with an answer explaining why she is wrong every single time. If you're looking for an intelligent conversation, you won't find it with her. Anything that goes against her opinion is automatically wrong, in her eyes. The possibility that she just doesn't have the education to support her claims never crosses her mind.
@x-bit She has a habit of calling things and/or people "stupid" but then is completely incapable of forming any sort of argument beyond "well that's my opinion".
does that include people who drink alcohol or people on antidepressants and anti anxiety meds? or just people on the drugs the government doesn't make money from?
That is possibly the single most moronic thing I've ever heard someone say. Congratulations! Drug use has literally nothing to do with morality. Not to mention that drugs have an uncountable number of uses so describing the users as having "weak character" simply demonstrates your lack of education on the subject.
So you're against meditating then? Do you call everyone who drinks alcohol or smokes tobacco a degenerate? What about those people who drink coffee? Also, why it is more moral to lock people behind bars for choosing what they do with their own mind and bodies? You clearly have no understanding of the benefits some of these drugs can offer. That's why North America and Europe are currently running the largest ever clinical trials into the impact of psilocybin on depression. Maybe understand the topic you're discussing before you start calling people degenerates.
So if coffee is ok, then let's just take anything? Really? That is the essence of an immorality and moral relativistic SHIT. There is a reason you drug addicts are despised. You are scum. And you will not dictate what is moral.
"And no healthy society ever encouraged people to mess with their state of consciousness." Do you stand by that comment or not? Caffeine is a psychoactive substance. So by encouraging coffee consumption are we creating an immoral and non-functional society?
Again, friend, you simply show your ignorance and lack of education on the topic, Grouping everyone who uses drugs into the "drug addict" category is not only immature, it's inaccurate.

@zagor I know it increased the usage heavily in Colorado, but I guess it depends on whether your state has Medical Marijuana, or not.
I mean that's so true
I smoke a lot to numb my pain i been through alotta shit especially for a 19 year old, i used to sip lean and do pills but that shit just stupid
Eh, do drugs or whatever. I’d rather not be around who did any drugs, though. Or my offspring.
You have offspring?
No, but when I do have offspring.
Fantastic take l dont need shity drugs l am a free thinker
Personally I think nothing wrong with weed. Other drugs is a no no. Sex when stoned is amazing lol

Yeah, makes sense.
Usually people who are not necessarily stupid say stupid things when they are bored.
@ Cammy137 ignore her she's just a troll
What's stupid about it? It may be ridiculous, sure, but I would have to disagree with something creative being classed as stupid. I also wrote that post to illustrate a more finely tuned point and so I don't think "stupid" does your opinion justice, unless you can give me examples as to what aspect of it is stupid?
What aspect of it? Every aspect of it. Just give me one aspect of it that is NOT stupid
ok here's one. Humans are hardwired to seek situations of liminality in which they can feel and act completely differently from regular life. @lilaqua if your way of relaxing is through killing a braincell, then you have no life.
Actually, there's no evidence to suggest that marijuana does kill brain cells. Perhaps educate yourself on the topic before insulting people!
Perhaps what you're referring to is the impact of heavy marijuana use on brains that aren't fully developed e. g. adolescents. I have to read again for quoting but I don't like reading things that were written when the author was bored

@x-bit you are stupid for using weed. Intelligent people don't lie to themselves and solve their problems through weed.
lol your a dumbass, I've only used weed about 5 times when i was younger, and as far as me being stupid i have an IQ around 132, i also started my first online store at the age of 19, meanwhile you on the other hand are a moron who got into an argument on a subject you admittedly don't know anything about and have no intention of learning about, you have show your ignorance multiple times here. my intelligence is one of my best traits, meanwhile the only value you possess is that hole between your legs and how well you can please a man, your nothing but an airheaded bimbo of low worth lol.

ya i hope she's a troll the thought of people that stupid is scary, but based on her avi i wouldn't be surprised if she really was that retarded lol.
@x-bit She has a habit of calling things and/or people "stupid" but then is completely incapable of forming any sort of argument beyond "well that's my opinion".
never used the stuff, but know many who did/do.
Nice take
No druggies near me please
does that include people who drink alcohol or people on antidepressants and anti anxiety meds? or just people on the drugs the government doesn't make money from?
@x-bit I avoid drunken people and all people who don't control themselves.
ya that's probably best.
Well played good sir

@TheNotorious I don't really drink now tbh.
mkayyy
I'm against weed
Why?
Good take
Not a fan of weed
Degenerate.
A comment that describes itself. Interesting!
Drugs are for people of weak character and low moral qualities.
That is possibly the single most moronic thing I've ever heard someone say. Congratulations! Drug use has literally nothing to do with morality. Not to mention that drugs have an uncountable number of uses so describing the users as having "weak character" simply demonstrates your lack of education on the subject.
I don't care what an immoral person like you thinks.
Said be someone who clearly doesn't understand what morality is, good job!
Morality implies moral standards. And no healthy society ever encouraged people to mess with their state of consciousness.
Good write
They should legalize it here, I'm honestly tired of alcohol by now.
To once again quote Bill Hicks on the topic of alcohol: "There are better drugs, and better drugs for you"
@Cammy137 AKA mushrooms XD
Interesting
nice.
