Between 2016 and 2017, the number of migrants living in Italy increased by 97,000. And yes, sure, we did welcome them without a doubt. Who wouldn't ? (oh i know some who wouldn't).

The maddest person about this issue is our Minister of the Interior, Matteo Salvini—who has made the “Italians first” slogan the guiding principle of his actions who has taken many unnecessary steps to put migration at the center of the political agenda to create a sense of urgency over the issue. SO BE CAREFUL WHILE READING THIS SCRIPT, one person does not define all of us ITALIANS, nor does this make me or others RACIST. Nope not at all, we welcomed our brothers and sisters (although most of them are brothers in general for some apparent reason), we helped them to integrate and to feel as comfortable as possible......

In 2014, about 170,000 people arrived in Italy from the Mediterranean sea and 65,000 of them seeked asylum in the country. This number can be easily explained by considering that only a small percentage of the two biggest groups – the Syrians (42,000 arrivals) and the Eritreans (with 34,000 arrivals)

Fact of the matter is, the refugees entering eruopean borders are often labeled as benefit thieves and criminals. Which might or might not be true depending on how MUCH YOU actually get to LIVE in a middle of this mess. These negative stereotypes have heavily impacted the way locals perceive immigrants; this perception occurs so much so that locals have been unable to detach the person from the stereotype, making it difficult to change public opinion. The reason WHY THOUGH is that most of the refugees tend to protest, have a tough time adapting, and seek RULES that would only be acceptable in THEIR country...which leads to GENERALIZATION and USELESS HATE.

LET'S FACE the facts, EVERYONE has the right TO BELIEVE and DO everything they want, we DO GIVE people their freedom to dress however they want, believe in whatever they want and eat whatever they want.. as LONG AS THEY RESPECT EVERYONE THAT WELCOMED THEM (This is another story, because trust me, not all refugees behave well over here)Include a caption for your image

So as for now most Italians are FURIOUS about Carola Rackete not because she SAVED those people, but THE WAY SHE SAVED THEM.

For those who do not know her, ( I did not know her either ) Carola Rackete , is a German ship captain who works for the German sea rescue organisation Sea-Watch. Last days, she has been arrested for docking a migrant rescue ship without authorization in the port of Lampedusa, Italy.

She picked up 53 ( some say 53 some say 42 you do the math) migrants in the Mediterranean off the Libyan coast. According to a report by the Süddeutsche Zeitung and NGOs this was the nearest safe harbor per maritime law. On 14 June, Italy closed its ports to migrant rescue ships.

A SUPER PISSED Matteo Salvini refused to allow the ship to dock until other European nations had agreed to take the migrants.

Ten of the migrants, including children, pregnant women, and those who were ill, were allowed to disembark.

2 days ago, without authorization, Rackete decided to dock. The motivation for this was that according to her the passengers were exhausted. Rackete was arrested by the Italian authorities after docking.

Matteo Salvini accused Rackete of trying to sink an Italian patrol boat that was attempting to intercept her, calling the incident an act of war and demanding the Netherlands intervene.

Italian politician Riccardo Magi defended Rackete, saying "she decided based on a state of necessity that I saw"

But a lot of ITALIANS and I MEAN IT A LOT, fell into the trap of negative stereotypes, getting fooled by different stories DUE TO THE MEDIA, making a HUGE DEAL out of something that is not even a huge deal, at least according to me. Some of my friends also say : WHY DIDN'T SHE BRING THEM TO HER COUNTRY.

Fact of the matter is, this Woman got arrested, and will face huge problems just because she saved a lot of people, and honestly i DO ADMIRE HER FOR THIS FACT. As for the refugees, it is honestly up to them if they are wanting to adopt and make the best of it since they are in Europe.

Honestly, I wish everyone the best, and I wish that more people could stop STEREOTYPING and I ALSO WISH that most refugees start to understand how important it is to behave correctly in a foreign country in order to make these stereotypes dissappear.

Doesn't the fact that the males flee in masse WITHOUT their families fire any red signals for you? They are opportunists, not refugess. Refugees would be of both genders and all age groups. Not almost exclusively military age males, which is NEVER a good sign if those are the only ones migrating.

Many are. And it's irrelevant how much they ''get to live in this mess'', benefit thieves are benefit thieves. The Italian, or any Europian, people DO NOT have to support them. We have to take care of our own first. Every cent that goes to a migrant should instead go to a poor Italian native.

I think we should seriously limit refugee intake. "The dying charger can't charge the dead battery". Focus on ourselves first, helping other countries should only be a concern when your country is doing fine.

Italy isn't fine, along with Greece, Portugal, Spain and Ireland they need to think about helping their own economy and people.

If the wars in the middle East ever end we should sent lots of tourists over there to see how the people who caused the wars like being overrun with cultures that change their own.

That is totally true, but since Lampedusa is the closest place for them to arrive, THEY ARRIVE, and honestly would you just push their BOAT away with your feet? I would not think so, even if it means that THOSE people might cause A LOT OF TROUBLE... It is very hard to decide on a stable emotion in this case.

I’m so glad to see your post. I’m a black woman, I traveled a lot to Italy for work (I work in the fashion industry). Many times I had bad remarks by people when I was walking in the street. Like « go back to your country » an othe BS. I also had good remarks, but it ‘s true that in my mind, I always thought, italians don’t like black people. I'd like to better understand what is really going on. Why so many migrants/refugees flooding the world over last few years. Was it intentional/planned to diffuse a human time bomb in the middle east, intentional to push power and control over other countries, or economic hardship.

here's the problem with your wishful thinking. Most human beings by time they are 18 don't want to change. They've grown up in a set of customs and beliefs that are "brain washed" into their minds... forced to memorize the Koran, absorbed their culture. Most don't want to change to respect you, a majority are likely trained to convert you and you are a woman, you are low status to the males. Have you studied much of their cultures? Those are general comments, but some common patterns in behavior and thinking.

When they reach a density within your country, they will push for change. Thus the backlash. Wishful thinking that they would somehow function like Godly Christian people, or good hearted and thankful people is completely... wishful thinking.

They have to be reconditioned and trained before they are citizens with any rights. that won't happen either. This in effect, is an invasion then, is it not? That is... they aren't seeking out a better world and life, but taking their world with them.

Italy is a small country, it has a very unique culture, each region is super distinct.
The migrants, come from a very different culture, with different values, and different expectations
They purposely put themselves in danger so NGOs can rescue them and dump them.

Italy has demographic problems, economic problems and they don't need to add migrants to the mix.

My solution is never give migrants citizenship. Don't give their kids citizenship and only allow them to remain in Europe for 4 years.

It's not Italy's responsibility to rescue, house, or assimilate these people.

This is true, sadly we are paying the consequences daily, OBVIOUSLY, there are also bad Italians, i will not lie, but looking at the statistics, the refugees have a higher percentage on misbehaving and disobeying the law. I experienced it first hand, my friends did also, honestly my TOWN IS NOT SAFE ANYMORE like it used to be. But can we control this? In most places I have seen it's actually the native population who commit much more murders and crime than the refugees. But their crimes do not get publicised as much. And usually refugees are more likely to be victims of crime than offenders. If you look at statistics, in most places it is the native population who disrespect the law more. Many refugees are just glad to be alive after all the torture they had to undergo and now they are also regularly victimised by the native population because of media reports. You can't say that someone will become a criminal just because they were born in a different country.

Many of them don't steal benefits - it's stereotypes like this that hurt people. People have been running from war throughout the history and many countries received refugees in past, but suddenly it's a problem because politicians realised they can easily get elected by blaming all problems on refugees and immigrants instead on their own flawed policies. Sadly, us Italians have a huge heart in general, we open doors to everyone.
Fact is, we used to literally keep our doors open even during the night, NOW we are locking them TWICE and have surveillance cameras everywhere. I do not feel safe in my TOWN anymore, and as somebody that strongly believes in Human Rights, it breaks my heart to not be able to look through these people and help them mentally, since that is what they need. They want it THEIR way..
