Look in China a few years back a man killed 40 adults and 16 children with a van and a knife. Also the criminals DONT get their guns legally. changing the laws does nothing but take guns out of the hands of responsible lawfull citizens. Your stupid if he think Changing the gun laws will make any difference. California recalled (or whateva word fits) around 2,000+ guns and the violent crime rate dropped a whole 0%. How about you wake up
I think you and I both know that after Sandy Hook happened, no one was going to do jack shit about it. “Well-regulated militia” makes me laugh. If the government wanted to annihalate us, they would. Stalin starved his own people. I am in favor of the second amendment. I just think that it should be regulated. Like many other things. Driving a car for example.
@UnamedUser no they aren't. Too many people who shouldn't have guns, like with domestic violence charges have been guns. It's way to easy to get a gun. Even with cars, if someone has a past history of driving poorly they get their license taken away. After so many DUIs your license will be suspended.
I was just a little surprised that all these gun-toting Texans didn’t just wig this kid in like the first two minutes. I heard that “good guys” having guns are the key to stopping this. So where were all the ten-gallon hat, silver-and-turquoise belt buckle guys for this? I just find it hard to believe that nobody in TEXAS, of ALL places, wasn’t the shining example of why everyone should be strapped at all times to take out this occassional rogues. That’s a L for Texas if we’re being honest.
@AllieKaye Ok, fair enough, I wasn’t aware of that if that’s true. How do we determine what a gun free zone is then? And what’s the point of having them if you’re Texas and are strongly pro-gun? How do you just “say” an area is anything? Where are the zones where you CAN carry? And do you actually pay attention to that? I mean, it says you can only go 65 mph (I think it was 70 when I went to TX) on the highway, but nobody pays attention to that, and more people are probably killed by car accidents every year than guns, no? Why the selective abiding by of the laws?
Well the city determines it. Law abiding citizens aren’t going to just ignore the post and bring their gun, Like we want to. There are parts of Texas with a lot of liberals. I’m actually in a very large city with a lot of liberals, it’s why we almost had a liberal as our Senator. Absolutely, I personally carry, but that’s because of past experiences and needing to protect myself. I think if you go to any city you’ll see a lot of people who drive fast, usually if you’re in the boondocks you won’t see it, but big cities or main highways you’ll see a lot of people doing that there. That’s all kinds of people though not just pro gun, that’s every single belief. Every opinion. I myself don’t like to drive period, and when I do, you’re gonna pass me.
@AllieKaye Ok, but again, all I hear about is the “good guy with a gun” thing... so do we need to eliminate gun-free zones in your opinion? It seems like the law-abiding citizens are putting themselves at a disadvantage by abiding by the law. And in the carrying vs speeding analogy I proposed, I’m just people disregard speed limits pretty much everywhere. My only Texas experience is with Austin, so no boonies to speak of, but I live near some boonies here in Massachusetts these days, and I’d say I’ll see people open up more on the more open roads, as opposed to Boston where you’re in ass to dick traffic from the moment you hit the edge of the metro area, it’ll often be more dangerously aggressive moves that didn’t necessarily occur at limit-breaking speeds but were reckless and could have caused an accident just the same. But just the point is, people selectively honor or eschew laws. I feel like dying in a car accident is something I realistically risk almost every day of my life because I participate in driving and I don’t trust people around me to be doing it safely because they think it’s a big joke and nothing bad will ever happen, even though I’m sure the number of casualties from auto accidents in America alone are probably five, if not SIX, figures. So the speeding, as dismissive as people are of it, is in reality probably a lot more likely to kill someone innocent than a holstered gun in a shopping mall. I mean, what’s the real threat there? The guys bends down to pick up his case of Mountain Dew Code Red from the bottom shelf, the gun falls out, and accidentally fires and hits someone? I’ll start buying PowerBall tickets and expecting to win before I’d expect to die like that. I’m WAY more worried about some idiot teenager speeding and/or texting and not paying attention and causing me to swerve and get smashed by a tractor trailer than I am by dying by gunfire in pretty any imaginable scenario.
I think the ONLY people abiding to the gun free areas are the ones who won’t shoot people. Guns are tools, they can be used for ill intent or good. It depends on the user
Actually we the people the members of this union "citizens" if you will shall have sufficient arms and ammunition to protect ourselves from a tyrant government which means we should have access to any and all arms as the us military has but to have joe blow holding on to a nuke would be ludicrous. Either way the words efficient ARMS AND AMMUNITION along with SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED are very clear on there meaning nowhere does it say muskets or black powder its not a gun problem its a hate problem quit breeding hate stop fueling this fire the democrats and there kkk started 200 years ago cause they couldn't keep their slaves
The purpose of the 2nd amendment is so that way the people have the ability to pick up arms, form militias to protect themselves from the government for the security of living in a free State. In the 1700’s armies used Musket rifles and averages citizens also used them. Both the Continental Army and the several Militias used them. They were considered weapons of war. The AR-15 is technically not a weapon of war cause civilians can’t have them in Full-Automatic but the military can, I disagree. It’s not hard to illegally convert one if you have the right parts and know what you’re doing, takes 10 mins. I’ve done it, and several Militia groups I bet have done it. I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m not willing to trade in my liberties in exchange for little security. So, pass whatever laws you want... I’m not following them.
One should be enough, but as long as it's not your family or friends that are amongst the dead it's quickly forgotten till the next one happens; and we allow others to soften the blow so much that we are desensitized to it all that it becomes just another reality show we're watching on television.
Granted it makes it easier to kill more people with guns but these people would just find another way and you could still make your own bombs or some other weapons so maybe there should be like mandatory psychiatric evaluation’s for everyone in school since it’s the individual not the weapon that kills
Also it doesn’t seem to deter these people with the death penalty either since most kill themselves or get killed anyway so there is no stopping someone like that , so there is no easy solution for this even you’ll have people say outlaw guns but then only the criminals will have them so that’s pointless
Really, what about the 22 shot capacity Air Rifle that Louis and Clark used. The one that was both silent and as powerful as a modern.45 and was also used by the Austrian Army (or was it the prussians I don't know its beside the point) or the experimental flintlock repeaters that actually did work and were used in the revolution in small numbers.
Magazine size reform, and raise the purchase age of rifles close gun show loopholes and mandatory national back ground check might take a ‘few’ deaths off the table. Mass shootings are rare compared to the other ways to die but the senselessness of it leaves people desperate for solutions. You cannot take away guns from americans it just will never happen might as well do the compromises i suggested.
Now you’ve got Trump blaming it on video games.😂 I hate living in Texas, it’s one of the most conservative states and look at this, another shooting in Texas! Dumb hicks.🙄
The founding fathers weren't stupid. Technology advanced before their very eyes when they wrote the Bill of Rights. To pretend they did not anticipate advances in firearm technology is sheer ignorance. The purpose of the second amendment was to protect from tyranny of government, and an armed populace needs the same level of armament as the government to stand a chance. Sorry, but you're 100% wrong. It is YOU who needs to wake up.
@StickStickity13 We need what we can afford, but armed resistance means nothing if you don't have arms that are competitive on a modern stage. What good has nuclear missiles done anyone? No one's ever fired one, so you can't even prove having them does anything but destabilize political regions. A few insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan held off U. S. jets AND tanks AND bombardment from the sea for years with a few outdated AK47s from the Soviet era and some household chemicals mixed in the proper proportions. Your statement is the stupid one. When it comes to resisting government, we need every advantage we can get. If I could afford an F16, I'd buy one.
Aaaaaaagh. We need to make getting guns stricter. And, everyone seems to be blaming dear old Trump. If you didn't pay attention to the shooters manifesto (El Paso) He supported Elizabeth Warren. Also, he was a racist and a huge environmentalist. I am not blaming anyone but the shooter and our weak gun system. We shouldn't ban them, we should make sure they go into the right hands.
@Dextrosis Oof, okay. It is also "funny," that the author of the opinion chose people he agreed with as MHO, both of those showed no proof supporting their sides either - _-
Yeah, well you have to be patient with people--it's not natural for most.
Some folks don't have the patience or scrutiny to look past their feelings, mostly because they're overworked and never took the time to develop it when they were younger.
It's not appropriate for me to know who you are, but if I did I'd really look forward to seeing who you'll become.
OK flip the question - How many of these "Mass Shootings" could have been dissuaded completely from or mitigated if the first or second person that the "Shooters" ran into were also armed?
The wing-nuts in these case are showing a classic pathology that even if they had no access to firearms they would have still tried to cause the maximum harm possible by any other means at their disposal.
The "good guy with a gun" is a myth. Even in very gun friendly states like Texas, it still happens. Only stupid Americans think every single person should be armed.
Trained professionals like the police should have guns. I trust them over my schizophrenic uncle any day of the week. People who want everybody to be armed are obviously delusional people who are battling mental illness.
It's so ridiculous. You hear Trump and his Trumptards praise the police all the time. OK, great. I agree. So you seriously want mentally unbalanced or criminal citizens to be able to easily fight back against them with military-style assault weapons? You fucknuts make no sense. Law and order my ass. You want chaos.
@supercutebutt Really? You trust the police? How many innocent people are killed by police every year? You may not hear all of them because the police judge it as a righteous shooting. Of course they do. ( rolls eyes).
@supercutebutt These shootings are done in "Gun Free Zones". Maybe, it's these zones which are the problem. Those who commit them don't go where they themselves would come to harm. Only to places where people are sitting ducks and easy cannon fodder for the criminals As for the two recent shootings: The police reported "3 suspects in custody" and mentioned 3 to 4 shooters on police radio.. All of this, 2 days after Antifa announced they will "lay siege" to El Paso.
The Dayton shooter was a warren supporter and Antifa supporter... journalist and doxer Jared Holt.
So much for the narrative that they were white supremacist “Far-Right”
I hate the arguments of stupid people. It's pointless. 99.9% of the places on Earth are "soft targets." Nobody anticipates a fuckwad with a gun in a store or a church or a playground or a school. People are living their lives, not waiting for the 1 in a million chance that some Trumptard is gonna burst on the scene trying to murder Mexicans. Easy access to guns is the problem. Stop fighting the obvious.
@supercutebutt Try growing up yourself, the likes of you always default to insults when someone contests your narrative. Waste of time talking to you as you're obviously blinkered.
Shut up, you jerk. Wow, I HATE stupid people. And there are so many of you out there. You are a waste. Take the hint that all your teachers gave you when they gave you bad grades in school: you aren't bright.
Well according to wikipedia its been around 2200 mass shooting since 2003. (Thats roughly one mass shooting a day) so im guessing that when you hit the 3000 mark you guys will start change, and when you hit the 5000 mark you will start to take action.
If you think you are going to get a reaction over these killings you will have to wait a long time. You have a president, that is not listening , and is behind the gun lobby. @Hispanic-Cool-Guy Adjust it for years in power, plus I don't consider it in any way related to Trump. It is increasing, but not based on who is president.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy Name ONE time it was back to back under Obama. And FYI asshole, BOTH of the shooters from today and yesterday would love nothing more than to tear your throat open just for being Hispanic.
@shephardjhon: You really think I care about them hating Hispanics? I don't care about white people anyways. And you're blocked for being disrespectful to me.
if you take away guns, people will kill each other with blades. if you take away blades people will kill each other with sticks and stones. if you take away sticks and stones people will kill each other with their hands. Guns are not the problem, people are the problem.
All this happens because, as far as I understand it, some gun rights group lobbies the government, pays them shitloads of cash and pesters them NOT to drop the 2nd amendment. As for the militia thing, I don't think they were referring to the Alabama SAS, pictured below.
Yes, most of America wants to change laws to control which guns can be owned and make sure all weapons are registered and traced to the owner. No regular citizen needs to own military grade weapons for any reason.
