Because historically, Southerners have been sometimes been pretty lenient when it comes ti lynching.

Like in the photo, Emmet Till's Murderers were acquitted despite evidence and they later openly admitted to killing him because they were protected by Double Jeopardy.

Hell, his sign was shot up last year by a bunch of southerners.

So needless to say I think its better we don't let the states take this one

@Waffles731 @legalboxers I am not here to protect any criminals but "the end justifies the means" is a slippery slope, especially when we are changing principles of federalism. As for the superiority of the federal system, as of 2017, 15 federal judges have been impeached, eight have been convicted, and three others resigned before completion of impeachment proceedings; that is just a statistic concerning those who were caught. It would be nice if we could blindly believe that federal law enforcement is beyond reproach but our recent experiences have shown otherwise.

2. Actually, there are far more death penalties imposed under state law than under federal law.

What difference does the method or motive make? A dead victim is a dead victim. Murder is already immoral and illegal; there's no point in making it a "hate crime" to murder someone in a certain way.

Motives affect the verdict: a murder borne of "a crime of passion" aka spontaneous compared a planned and premeditated murder would hold different sentences, the same way a rape charge would be different based on if race/age/etc. was a specific reason.

It's like if someone shot your dog for no discernible reason vs. they know it's your dog so they shot them
