Should Josh Duggar be forgiven?

Alright, so it's come up that Josh Duggar used to moleste some of his sisters. For years this has been kept quiet, and now that it's out it seems like a lot of the supper christian big families are still accepting of him, simply because he's "sorry"

I'm not saying he should be put in prison or anything, because it WAS years ago, and he does have his own family.

But I mean, the Duggar girls, are taught that to be imodest, is to cause men to sin, because men are more prone to think dirty thoughts, and dirty thoughts are sin. (their teachings, not mine)

So these girls had to live with this, thinking that it was somehow their faults that their own brother did this to them. Brothers are supposed to protect their younger sisters right? Isn't that the thing? His actions completely warp the idea of brotherly protection! And these poor girls have also been forced to think "I must have done something to make him think that stuff, I've made him SIN".

They also haven't said anything about it, even though they have had to see this man nearly every day. Their brother, the guy who is supposed to help them, not hurt them.

Needless to say, I don't forgive him, but that is just MY opinion. Any other point of views? Should he be forgiven?

He's not a part of my life so I don't have to forgive him and I was never a fan of that show because I always had a bad vibe about that family who bash the LGBT community especially Josh who claims that gays are a danger to kids when in fact he is a danger to kids. Everything he said has now come back to bite him in the ass. His family covered it up and failed to protect their daughters they even popped out more. Now he is married and has kids of his own. He is a hypocrite and so are his parents and who ever else helped to cover this up and not lock his ass up where he belongs because 12 years ago he was 15 and fully capable of knowing what he did was wrong. He got a slap on the wrist and some counseling. WTF did he need counseling for his victims needed counseling he needed to be in jail away from his sisters and other kids. Not some "Christian" camp. he molested his sisters and other girls for Pete's sake I don't think religious beliefs can turn a sick and twisted molester and abuser into a saint no matter how you slice the pie. Shame on his parents. A lot of people are defending him and saying he should be forgiven, it happened years ago, etc. just because he's this famous Christian guy from a tv show and it pisses me off. If it were just anyone everyone would be saying stuff like "wow that's disgusting! I don't care how long ago it was, put him in jail!" But nope, since he's from 19 kids& counting and part of the Duggar family, people are trying to say "oh it was only a mistake, let it go". He is an incestuous child molester, plain &simple. And no one who does that should be forgiven, in my opinion.

well, it's like, the thing is, is that if he were put in prison, he'd be released for a crime like this, and if people get put in prison for something that MIGHT be stopped, by the time they get out, they WILL do it again, it's the cycle because of what happens to them in prison. So if he hasn't done it, then it was a sick fucked up thing he did, but at the very least he isn't doing it anymore (I don't know if he has or not recently, going by what we know about him, and so far it hasn't been recent) So if he goes to prison, then gets out, then odds are that he will probably start doing it again.

The only people who are truly in a position to forgive him are his victims. And in my opinion, his parents are just as guilty as he is.

They didn't initially go to police. They went to church elders who gave them shitting advice on counseling. They sent him off to work for a friend for 4 months and called it therapy, then allowed him to live in the same house with 4 of his victims. He needed intensive counseling and therapy and they just prayed over it and tried to sweep it under the rug. From the timeline of events that have been published, the parents knew of Josh's actions in March 2002 and did nothing at all about it until July 2002. Then they seek out a national spotlight so they could earn money from publicizing their alleged "Christian values." They had a duty to their daughters and they failed them.

in my opinion, they were accessories after the fact, at best. Even worse if Josh continued to abuse them after they became aware of it, which appears to be the case.

I highly doubt any loving parent would turn in their own child to the police, no matter how bad the incident (s) is.

The aim to keep the kids out of jail is usually a too priority, and aim to handle an incident like this "in house".

I don't think they'd send the child to jail, when my mother heard about this, she said she wouldn't send any of my brothers to jail for it, but she would ship him off somewhere, to like grandparent we don't see much or something, that way they wouldn't be in jail, but whoever they touched wouldn't have to see them every day, and avoid it happening again to said child

But outside help is certainly required in this case. The family couldn't deal with it internally, for many obvious reasons. in my opinion, their church was more harmful than helpful. He goes into the juvenile justice system, he's more likely to get the help he needs, and the needs of his victims will be addressed, too. That's what should have happened instead of handling it in such a cult-like manner, then after it happened, prostituting your entire family out (including both offender and 4 of the victims) to use as an income stream on national TV while still trying to sweep it under the rug.

This just baffles me, aren't they this allmighty religious family that doesn't do any harm. And look there child molestes other kids. It just goes to show how every family is not perfect. But I mean I don't care if it happened 6 years ago vs 12 years. It still happened and will the girls every get justice for what happened to them? Like you said they will see him almost everyday having to face him. Ok he was a "young teenager" but he still did wrong and should take responsibility for it.

You can blame that on our justice system the statute of limitations for rape varies by state but where the Duggars lived it was 3 years which is why they waited exactly 3 years to report it to police because nothing could be done about but who is to say that this didn't continue during that time if it did nobody is going to talk. That family is part of a cult.

I can't like wrap my head around it, I really don't think that a person can change that part about themselves, and how the parents can just say "we got therapy it's fine." I COMPLETELY agree with the girls having to think it's there fault. Every time they look at him, that's just something they'll remember, and while therapy may help cope, it can't be forgotten. In MY opinion haha

This is why I think it is often better to allow people to have premarital sex and what not... it gives them freedom to sexually relieve themselves so they don't have to try to hide the fact that they want to do it and end up violating someone instead of just having sex with their girlfriend or something.

mhm, personally, I wouldn't advertise premarital sex, but I don't really discourage it either, but that has nothing to do with religion, as I can't honestly say I agree with everything that my religion believes in, and yah, NO ONE is perfect

Same here. I am also religious but I believe in sexual compatibility so that is one of my reasons for premarital sex. My other is that I accept I am not perfect and am not trying to be like God. If that is the worst thing I do, then I don't think I'm that bad of a person since we would have no people on the planet if no one did that. lol

It's a double-edged sword because premarital sex has benefits and consequences basically, just like waiting for marriage.
