@Vicky7402, at appropriate ages, our troop built soapbox derby cars and raced against the Boy Scouts. I didn't stay a member but the Senior girls fixed and repainted an old car as a troop project. We always went camping. I guess it depends on what interests your leaders had.
We had a troop leader in 6th grade who was a really wonderful woman, but rather large and out of condition. She would never have been able to hike long mountain trails or climb anything.
@LindsayRB91rds I know the girls scouts here only go camping onec (if that) and spend a lot more time with crafts and selling cookies, ehile the Boy Scouts go camping a lot more and carve cars for the pinewood derby and do more outdoorsy activities.
@mellifluous_girl, I think it depends a lot on the interest of the girls and leaders. A leader who lives to take long hikes might be mor likely to take the girls on one.
well then that's unfair. any troop I've seen has only done crafts, including my own. I stayed until I was a cadet and got tired of knitting blankets and sitting around and not doing anything. I haven't seen a single troop that actually did anything related to "scouting" aside from one camping trip, which wasn't even camping, it was hanging out in a cabin for a day.
@Vicky7402 Over the years we made sit-upons and camp stoves out of tuna cans, cardboard and candle wax too. We just had one leader who loved hiking so we went on some long hike weekends.
it's legit every girlscout I've ever met. I haven't met anyone went camping or did anything outside really. the only people who I know who did is the sisters of boyscouts who were allowed to come with on trips
@Vicky7402 My older brother wasn't a scout so I can't speak to that. Our troop of Juniors did hang with the boys and we competed together in soapbox derbies. We built cars that were every bit as rickety and dangerous as theirs were. :)
@MysteriousDarkness Hammers, saws, nails, screws, paint... The usual way. If you're suggesting that girls can't use tools to build stuff and we paint everything pink, you're wrong.
it's absolutely not sexist. A large part of the purpose of the scouts is to encourage father/son activities, just as Girl Scouts has a large emphasis on mother/daughter.
Pretty sure that they're now allowing trans boys into the scouts. So no. At least I don't think so. But I personally have no stake in it. I never cared about or for Boy Scouts.
Are you kidding. The girl scouts seems to be kicking our ass. I have not seen boy scouts anywhere. How is it sexist if boys are learning with boys. Same way girls are with girls.
There are plenty of organized groups around the world tailored specifically for a certain gender, so I don't think Boy Scouts is sexist, because there are Girl Scouts too.

Everything in the world doesn't have to be all inclusive. Girls have the girl scouts.

After reading your second update, it isn't common for them to exclude females from all involvement. I know plenty of single mothers that are involved in all scout activities. That must be a rule exclusive to that particular pack.
I understand. However, knowing that our community is relatively small (everyone knows everyone, and there are multiple Scout leaders that help in each den), shouldn't the leaders know that there are a handful of single mothers or families with busy and unavaliable fathers that the guidlines can be detrimental to?
Not to my knowledge. Questions have arised as to why they added this, but I'm not necessarily in the loop about why things were phrased the way they were and who all was involved in the drafting of this email.
is girl scouts sexist? I don't get why you are bringing this up. Boys are boys, and will be taught boy stuff, same with girls..

No. There are groups for only women, and nobody cares, but for some reason women always have to stick their noses in and try to interfere whenever men want to hang out only with other men.
TLDR; I'm an Eagle Scout. I would say yes but not in all cases. I don't care if you're a women, man, trans, alien. As long as you're with the group and don't make things awkward, I'm with it
I was a boyscout for a number of years and they never really let women participate in anything, in my troop at least. they are also very homophobic, I had 2 friends that were gay.

maybe they changed the rules because women are typically better bakers than men, so it would be unfair if the boy got help from his mom.
If the boy scouts are sexist so are the girls
I always wanted to be a boyscout like my brothers but had to settle for being a girlscout.
you're saying as if being a girls scout is something less.
girlscouts is much more boring. more arts and crafts than "scouting"

@LindsayRB91rds my brothers went mountain climbing and hiked long trails.

I quit two years ago. the most exciting thing we did was leave the meeting. it sucked
@Vicky7402 That's a shame. I actually enjoyed the community stuff we did - visiting nursing homes, helping in soup kitchens and stuff like that.
yeah we didn't even do that. we sat in a basement and ate pretzels. a waste of money and time, I don't know why I stayed so long
@Vicky7402 Maybe the leaders we had just weren't crafty.

god that would've been cool. you're lucky, we literally did nothing and I was in girlscouts for seven years
@LindsayRB91rds How did the senior girls fix and paint a car
@MysteriousDarkness Hammers, saws, nails, screws, paint... The usual way. If you're suggesting that girls can't use tools to build stuff and we paint everything pink, you're wrong.
What did you mean by your question?
it's absolutely not sexist.

They should. Has anyone tried to appeal to them?
Not to my knowledge. Questions have arised as to why they added this, but I'm not necessarily in the loop about why things were phrased the way they were and who all was involved in the drafting of this email.

This is a joke right? If boy scouts is a sexist program you better make a post about how girl scouts is a sexist program too lol
It is called BOY scouts because - *drumroll* - it is for boys.
You know that there are plenty of organisations that are solely for women as well, right?
TLDR; I'm an Eagle Scout. I would say yes but not in all cases. I don't care if you're a women, man, trans, alien. As long as you're with the group and don't make things awkward, I'm with it
Everything's sexist these days, didn't you know? If it's not sexist, it's probably racist.
if this is the case then so are the girl scouts. these feminists are trying to ruin everything for males.
if a club for boys is sexist then a club for black people is racist. I'd say neither of those statements are true
Technically yea. I'm not sure what stances they have on like transsexuals though.
I was a boyscout for a number of years and they never really let women participate in anything, in my troop at least. they are also very homophobic, I had 2 friends that were gay.
It says boyscouts. Its about boys. Mothers shoulndt be baking the cakes, fathers and their sons should. Its not sexist.
#triggered. you're just going out of your way to be offended you melennial
Boy scout's is a private organization there for cn make their own rules if people don't like it they can make there own organization
