Why do my roommates always expect me to make dinner?

i am a student and am in class for 6 hours a day. I also have a part time job for 4 hours a day. I am gone from 8 am to 6 pm doing these things, plus I have homework every night.

my 3 roommates have 9 to 5 jobs, but nothing else to do. every night when I come home at 6:30 they are all either watching TV or playing computer games and the first thing they ask is "what are you making for dinner?" and they hound me till I cook. they also make me do the dishes.

there have been a few times when I refused to make dinner but then none of them made anything and we all went hungry. they'd rather starve than cook for themselves, which means I have to do the cooking if I ever want to eat.

Wow, that sucks. But hey, you are not obligated to cook for them. You are not a cook, they are not paying you to cook and they don't even help with the dishes. You have willingly let them enjoy the fruit of your labors without penalty. I personally would be angry that they are being so selfish. Make only enough food for yourself and when they get all rude about how you are being selfish, tell them this. " I have class all day, then I go to work and work for a bit, then come home and have hw. And on top of all of that I am rudely hassled to make food for several capable adults. And I also have to do the dishes afterward, I don't think that what I am doing is being rude or selfish"

So do as the little red hen did and eat the food yourself :) Tell them to grow up and learn to cook and not be so lazy. I am assuming that this is probably just one of the many things they don't do, so stand up for yourself. You are not their mother :)

And honestly, when you don't make something and they all 'go hungry' Too bad for them. They won't let themselves starve, tell them McDonald's is just down the street :P Trust me, they will get it and start making food. It's not your obligation to feed and care for them. I know that sounds harsh, but really, you are obviously too busy and you shouldn't have to make food on top of what you do.

i thinkk because they are lazy and are so used to there moms cookking dinner for them ans=d they can tell that your too nice and juss give in and do it with out them lifting a finger I guess they thinkk of you as a push over I say you set some ground rules and tell them too help you cook or at the very least wash the dishes or juss start cooking for yourself this question reminds meeh of the little red hen lol

simple.. only cook enough for u.. you eat then go about your business.. don't leave any left overs.. do that for a couple of days they will get the picture..

I would also make a point to just tell them straight up. I don't think they will get it. But yea, only cook enough for yourself! :)

If they would rather starve (not true) then let them

cook enough for yourself OR cook enough for yourself for a couple of days and store it so you don't have to cook every day...

learn to cook for less...I have that cookbook if you need a reference

cook them a nice meal and make a cake for afterward. Only have a laxative in the cake... None of them will ever ask you to cook again. And throw the f***ing dishes away and make them buy new ones! Don't wash their damn dishes!
