I see most people are emotional and use their emotions to make decisions rather than rationality. This is the case with many women.

A perfect example of this is rape. People get emotional about this topic and angry when someone says that there are worse crimes like murder or blinding someone. They are prejudiced and can't accept others opinions, they are mentally unstable.

I like your follow-up on this because I was actually shocked reading all the reactions towards your question concerning rape.

And I never read the responses before I respond myself just to keep it honest.

I made a response basically that wasn't similar to others as I know the realities and I use logic in answering things although some things might be my achilles heel when it comes to it emotional response especially if it's something concerning the abuse of animals because I understand that they're life matters as well other people might say "oh it's just a dog oh it's just a cat" but I guarantee you their soul and their nerves and their brain are capable of feeling pain and suffering and hunger the same way as humans are if not even more as they don't understand all the reasons behind their current situation and they have no capability of understanding that tomorrow will be better.

In my life I've had times where I don't have enough for all my dogs and me to eat but I always make sure that they eat and I'll not eat because I know that tomorrow I will. If I'm waiting on somebody to pay me or my salary is to be paid, so I choose to not because I know that my mental capacity can take it in the knowing that I will eat tomorrow but I would never leave them to not eat because they don't understand that. If I don't eat now, I know it'll be okay in a little bit and Ican eat tomorrow. I know what tomorrow is, I can understand what tomorrow is therefore I choose to buy them food and go without not often but it's happened several times at least twice, three times a year, but to leave them sitting there waiting for their dinner and then to not be fed and the stress that they might feel and the friendships that are very fickle amongst dogs specially when you have 18, I do not want them fighting and causing irreversible damage in the structure of what I have built therefore I would much rather go without than have to deal with the repercussions of leaving them to starve.

I have not looked through all the answers dealing with the rape question but I did look through many and I was shocked by how much people don't actually understand what real pain is and real suffering is. This is not about me whatsoever but to not be able to walk as I have experienced for 4 months was was indescribable yeah call me a pussy but even though I knew I would walk again it was just the most frustrating feeling you could imagine. When I was walking around and moving around on crutches I was manic even to where my girlfriend said don't go so fast as if people were going to think I am odd/goofy as we were going through the shopping mall and I was moving as fast as I could just out of giddiness ,(is that a word).

people that responded as if rape was the ultimate crime obviously have suffered very little in their life and it's almost as if they are trying to be like a white knight mentality which in reality is just another way to get laid. I read that to myself and it sounds really brutal but sorry I'm not really a prick I'm like one of the most compassionate people in the world and you would know that if you knew me. Strong people actually do not suffer from PTSD as it's out of sight out of mind get over it you think that's brutal fuck it I know the realities of it I can't even fathom getting run over by a car again and it seems very foreign to me because I'm not in that moment but I do remember at the time how bad it actually felt but that's in his that's in the past move on and I rarely ever think about it, and I have no fear of getting on my motorcycle and driving again, because I use logic and realize that what happened to me what's a fluke was a rare occurrence and it won't happen again but if it does, I'll get through it and I'll be okay.

Emotions are obviously normal and beneficial. But they aren't rational. One could say that emotion is an altered state like being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. One shouldn't make important decisions while emotional.

Phobias are based on emotion. Emotions can be deceiving. We aren't always aware of their origins. Many were internalized during childhood before we had the ability to reason.
And the easiest way to manipulate someone is through emotion.

Reacting to someone's pain and suffering is healthy. But I agree 100% that people need also employ reason.
People who believe certain things so thoroughly that those beliefs become internalized as emotions suffer from cognitive dissonance when confronted with reality. They get angry. They can't open their minds and consider information that conflicts with their beliefs. They abandon the ability to reason.

I see "belief" as immutable, whereas opinions can be changed or modified as more information becomes available. I don't understand why some people are incapable of using reason to analyze their emotions and modify their beliefs. In the end, cold, hard, objective reasoning is the only way to be a rational human being.

I've counselled people who are survivors of rape and/or abuse. Decades later these survivors are often still traumatised. I've also spoken to family members of murdered people. While the trauma is considered to be "more" (utter bullshit by the way) at the time of loss, the long term impact is - in most cases - lower, with the exception of situations where the family member was present and is also suffering from "survivor's guilt".

Rape and abuse survivors often suffer a deeper psychological impact that is more complex than shorter term counselling can restore. Every time these survivors look in the mirror they face the question of "why". Could they have done more. Done differently.

It's emotive.

You can't separate emotion from your existence. It's impossible. You can argue with the use of semantics all you want, but there is something deeper than simple emotion that is understood by the word "soul". I happen to be a Christian, but if I'm referring to something at that level I say "spirit", where I say "soul" to refer to the deepest level of emotional experience.

One girl was traumatised 19 years after her rape when the baby conceived in the assault that she gave up for adoption came to find her. That may have been the most traumatic session I had to deal with.

A wound that deep, not only in the case of that girl, but in every session I dealt with, isn't erased by a life otherwise filled with enjoyment and friendship. Often they are left with a deep wound in their soul. Most rapes are committed by someone known to the survivor. That kind of betrayal goes far deeper than what to an outsider appears to be a "good" life.

I've worked with young men abused as children by adults and who were abused by schoolmates their own age, sometimes for years, as well as survivors of a single assault. They all had one thing in common: someone had told them something that led to them believing that they were in some way responsible for the ordeal they experienced.

Can you imagine waking up every morning wondering if today is the day that the child your rapist left inside you will walk back into your life? Last year I almost died from covid and I lost my leg in the battle. My life changed. I'll never be able to do a lot of the things I imagined doing with my son. I live out of a wheelchair around 75% of the time while I'm learning how to use a prosthetic.

Of course, my life won't change if someone brings me back the leg that was amputated.

I had a good friend when I left home who had contracted an illness that was destroying both his sight and hearing. A double blow since he was a professional musician. He actually learned to play the piano and the xylophone so he could continue his musical career. His life was less restricted than mine is now.

The rape survivor wasn't able to control if, when or how her life would be changed again should the child come into her life. She had no right to anonymity at the time - the law has subsequently changed for women in her circumstances.

From the perspective you've demonstrated, you think someone dead no longer exists. Someone in a coma may not remember the experience - I was in a coma 3 months last year and have no memory of it. Someone blind - based on the people I've met - have been less traumatised.

But you're right. It's not comparable.

I truly hope you're never in a position to be able to understand that, since your answers clearly demonstrate the only way you'll ever understand is if you're actually raped yourself.

It's your perspective that's the issue. I'm physically different than I used to be, but I'm still the same man I was before covid. In fact in some ways I'm stronger now.

I almost died. I needed CPR for several hours. I was too physically weak to fight for my leg any longer so I let the doctors amputate.

Having the leg removed saved my life. I get to watch my son grow up. Certainly my life is different to what I imagined, but I'd rather deal with this physical challenge than not be able to look at my own reflection in a mirror of be scared of the next knock on the door being what turns my life upside down.

I dislike the term "disabled". "Handicapped" is no better. What makes me the man I am isn't the body I move around in.

I think we try to force logic too much and neglect that most human thought and behavior, even when superficially logical, is driven or at least influenced by our emotions, whether we consciously realize it in ourselves or not. I think its normal for people to get emotional about things. I will be the first to admit that I am a huge softie and I'm a really emotional person and I feel even more bad if I make a mistake any my manager or someone else tried highlighting the mistake too much. I think it can be challenging to be rational at times especially if someone is being aggressive or is getting angry at you for some reason because you try to be professional or maybe you get defensive depending on the situation. The closer it is to the person, the more passionate they are about it.

The rational mind is the newest part of the brain, the neo-cortex - the part of the brain that has executive function. It's tint and new. The emotional brain is huge and ancient and is often referred to as the limbic part of the brain. Rationality id a very difficult matter. Most people get overwhelmed by their emotions because they are not knowledgeable or are not aware of its effects. Consciously, we realize we are being too emotional, but we can't ignore it either. People tend to be emotional because being emotional feels right to them, they don't stop to rationally. I think there is a lot more context to this than what you’ve wrote. I don’t believe most people believe rape to be worse than murder. I just think they get frustrated at the fact that it’s hardly seen as a serious criminal offence (which is understandable unless you wouldn’t care about your daughter being raped either). Also, you need both emotions as well as rationality to make the best decisions, there should be a balance because without that, when you have an extreme of either one, you got problems on both sides. If you have no emotion, how can you truly care about outcomes or consequences?
