Are people in the west too spoiled?

I see on a regular basis people complaining about things that we have never even had the luxury to care about. (Pronouns, being oppressed etc. ) when we live in the most prosperous, safest, technologically advanced and equitable times in human history. Then I see all of these overly protected people in the us in comparison 90% of the world. We in the west have it as good as it has ever gotten in human history and yet it seems like we take everything g for granted and even some want to tear down the most equitable system ever created. Are people in the west too spoiled or are the spoiled ones just the loud ones? Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Being in debt and being spoiled are two separate subjects. My question is if we are spoiled. I’ve traveled and lived in many parts of the world where the people do not have nearly as much access to the luxuries we do and to the riches we can afford in the west and they are far more appreciative of what little they do have.

Money is not the only part of the equation. I’ve heard of girls who relocate to new schools and get bullied and abused by a crowd of popular girls on their first day of school. I’ve heard of parents who bought their kids vacations and toys but made them anorexic because they thought having a skinny daughter would boost their social status. You could have all the money in the world, but if your being threatened and violated and attacked and treated like trash, you should not be expected to be happy.

You're conflating shallow comforts with tangible privilege. None of the minor comforts matter if the moment you stop working you're out on the streets.

These things only exist as a mask for the bleak reality of most people's lives. Why do you think practically everyone is addicted to something, even if it's just coffee sugar or sex?

I would say that rather than spoiled it's more a case of despair leading to hedonistic nihilism.

Really though it's probably going to end in a shift towards a bunch of massive wars civil and international and a new dark age/massive population collapse.

Considering that most of the social issues actually in place stemmed from non problems that have been turned into actual ones, I'd say that "too spoiled" is a big euphemism, still.
