Much like the left/right political spectrum, where I wonder how many people know where that originated from, the 1st/2nd/3rd world classification is essentially outdated.
It has nothing to do with how well off a country is. It merely pointed to the alliances of the Cold War, First world being US and its allies, Second world being USSR and its allies, and Third world was unaffiliated countries, which tended to be too poor to have any stake in the matter.
@BrosephBrostar did u just make that up? once upon a time... there was the OLD WORLD... which was Europe. then there was the NEW WORLD which was the western hemisphere. everything else was thrown into the third world. THAT's the origin. everything thereafter was made up by people that didn't know what they were talking about... and ignorant people have made new terms and phrases.
@BrosephBrostar then they've updated the origin... because "old world" and "new world" and "third world " are 2 centuries old. what u posted is what they are now, fair enough. i'll stop here. have a good night.
If the ghettos of Missouri and Texas are considered first world then the sprawling advanced cities all over the place in countries with brown people ought to be, too.
A lot of immigrants say even NYC seems like a third world country nowadays. we dont have the character and spirit anymore that made us great. It doesn't have to do with race. Or does it? The ancient English were democratic and believed in individual liberty afterall
Individual liberty has nothing to do with democracy. Nor does it's absence. Democracy is simply a system in which civilized people can remain civilized by agreeing to disagree, trusting that reason will win out, instead of abusing or eliminating each other until they get what they want. Individual liberty is simply what our democracy currently agrees to. Hopefully it won't change but if masses of people figure out a way to make it unreasonable, it will need to be revisited.
Doesn't matter. You can't make up a double standard based on how recently it happened.
And how exactly was developed dampened? All of the former colonies became independent. If they were unable to make advancements in their society its entirely their fault.
Hell, Europe was anihilated by 2 world wars and still managed to recover. No other continent got destroyed that much. And somehow its still not a genocidal shithole
@grega239 Europe was much less developed than some of the other countries that are now third world countries for much of human history, probably because it kept getting invaded. Now the pendulum swings their way, but it is neither permanent, nor is it how things have always been
Not every. Japan, singapore, taiwan, etc, are first world countries.

Europeans developed the fasted technologically over the last 500 years and exported that to the rest of the world. Most of the first world is a former British colony.

take a wild guess?
but don't forget china nor India.
and I bet few people even know where "3rd world" originated.
so if there's a first world and a third world... who's the second world?
Greece, Romania, etc
We all know

You're talking about something completely different homie. I didn't make it up, that's the origin of the name.

Alright, cheers.
You don't consider Japan and South Korea 1st world at this point?
A lot of those Middle Eastern countries are EXTREMELY wealthy. They have oil for one thing.
Dubai, UAE is the richest, yet it's built by workers paid less than minimum wage.
Because they colonised the originally richest parts of the world and established power and took their money
You do realise that in order to colonise a place you first need to conquer it - which in this case means having to have technological advantages?
Because white supremacists colored that map (it is completely wrong).
How do you know it's wrong

Because the industrial revolution happened in England and it spread throughout countries that were similar and close in proximity.
Europe invaded/subjugated basically everywhere, which kinda puts a dampener on development
You know Europe was invaded many, many times. the balkans were ruled by ottomans for centuries and southern spain by arabs.
The mongols invaded. The huns too. Persia did it a few times too.
@grega239 not exactly recently

first, because they named themselves that... and also, because of colonialism
The question is false. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore are first-world countries and that may include Hong Kong.
Japan and South Korea is coloured as a first world.
European countries has a history of colonization, whenever any other country try to progress the Europeans honestly said ain't going to happen.
Not every. Japan, singapore, taiwan, etc, are first world countries.

History classes explain it. It starts with the iron age and industrialization in Europe followed by colonization
I live in a 3rd world country and I’m a first world. I have peace here and No copy’s bothering me with pity bull shits
"RACISM"!!
There, I beat you liberals to the punch.
Maybe for the moment but what had been will be again. And who defined first world anyway.
Because that is the skin color of the people who live there. Europe in particular is always white.
There’s no such things those are just labels countries are countries
I only know
