The show "Squid Game" is giving me anxiety?

I saw a few episodes, and it seemed very engrossing and with strong acting, but the darkness of it all did feel kinda claustrophobic. Which I suppose is the entire point. It felt similar to how I reacted to the 15 million credits episode of black mirror. That combination of human greed, violence, paranoia, and claustrophobia can make for powerful television, but it can be a lot to take in for emotionally sensitive people. There's other shows I've put off watching, like Game of Thrones, because I just no longer have the appetite for such dark subject matter. If a TV show or film is making you feel this anxious, then you can always switch to watching something more uplifting and life-affirming. I find that Studio Ghibli films always reignite my faith in humanity.
Stories we consume through TV or film or books can show the best pr worst of human nature, and everything in between. "Dark" shows like Squid game tend to focus on the more cynical side of the equation. But the South Korean people lived under brutal communist rule for many years before achieving independence, so it's perhaps more inspiring to see how Squid Game is like the writers saying "this is what humanity needs to resist and fight against", because their grandparents lived through some of the very worst conditions humans could live through, so the writers and actors have a motivation to expose the darkness of the human psyche, as a warning so that viewers will move towards the light instead.
You need to get away from the internet, and TV if this is causing you anxiety. It's not healthy to imagine fake scenarios like this, and be scared of the world. Nothing like this is happening anywhere on the planet right now. In fact be thankful you live in a place where you have a mother to be by, or a TV to watch it on. Some places in the world are suffering just not in a gore fashioned Netflix game style. Some kids are starving scared of dying from hunger, you shouldn't be so scared of dying from watching a TV show. Besides we all die one day.
I'm afraid that shows like this garner such a high viewing and it seems as human beings we are unbelievably attracted to peeking in on things we know we shouldn't.
Voyeurism at its best.
We will never not be curious but I do think this needs to stop, if this is the effect on you imagine the effect on someone who likes it.
Don't watch it if you feel so bad.
It's also not a good idea to binge watch shows like this too even if you can handle it.
Thanks for mho xo
Girl if this gives you anxiety then you don’t want to watch Alice in Borderland😂 at least in Squid Games they have the choice in whether to go back or not. In this other show they’ll just be doing random things, like showering, then go outside and boom they’re in the games😩. Then they have no choice, once you’re in the game if you don’t play then you will die. To me that’s way more scary.

The show is strictly fiction and this isn’t something that would actually happen in real life. Don’t worry, the best you can do for yourself is to simply not watch. Find a more light hearted show that can mellow you out.
I think you personally sum up exactly how and why people argue that entertainment media is psychologically devastating to society as a whole. Not only is it having this effect on you, but you recognize that and continue to watch it anyway. You know the answer: stop consuming these types of shows, and learn to recognize what is real and what isn't.
I suffer from anxiety myself, but please don't subject yourself to things that might trigger your anxiety. Logically, the games themselves are scary, but at the same time, they are optional. You have a choice to not participate if you want so even if it is happening in real life, you would have to be financially desperate like the participants in the show. Don't take something that seems to be too good to be true I guess? 😅
Well, stop watching it I guess? by the way, the whole point of Squid Game is criticism of Korean society and wealth differences, cool, but with gore... there are like 100 similar Korean and Japanese shows, some of them might be mid milder, try to find those who are not that brutal.
It's a fictional show about a fictional situation. You have nothing to worry about. I guess I'm just so used to the horror, dark, and macabre side of media (I love that type of shit) that the actual violence doesn't get to me as much as the emotions of the characters and the story itself. I loved this show! Just enjoy it for what it is, a gruesome FICTIONAL show.
I watched the show and I liked it but there are billion red flags from the get go. First off it should be clear a wealthy person is in charge and that already narrows the suspects down considerably. And like others say you have the choice to participate so that helps to steer you away.
To be fair, they make a point in the second episode to show how miserable their lives already are. It's not really much of a choice for them.
Trust me, the likelihood that your captured for something similar to squid game is less than a billion percent. You’d have to have seriously bad luck
What can you do? Just turn off the t. v., put on a comfy pair of shoes and take a walk. Go out and enjoy the autumn weather :)
And don't turn the t. v. on again. Ever.
So stop watching it lol if your going to iverthink yourself into some bad situation simply stop watching
If Squid gives you anxiety, go watch Korean cinema. Original Old Boy. JSA. Sympathy for Lady Vengence. That will sober you right up. It’s truly a different planet over there.
Art imitates life and if a certain segment of society keeps fucking around they’ll find out they aren’t nearly as tough as they dress up and pretend to be. Squid game, purge, whatever you want to call it, it’s coming.
Quite enjoying it so far. Truth is there is far worse people out there than this game show... Happy anxiety day!
I'm in love with it. Watching it right now.
Green Light
The dark web is not for you, then.
People do all sorts of dark shit for money and fame. You don't need to know about it or watch it.
Ya the best would be to not watch it. As for not wanting that to happen to you, the basic rule... don't talk to strangers ;)
Welcome to the world. Better get stronger or you’ll die.
I haven’t seen it, but from your description, it sounds like a very scary show.
You are living the squid game it’s called covid game vaccines mandatory games. we are a weapon machines walking around… if this isn’t scaring you I don't know what to say
Well, they all chose to get in the game and after to continue as well, soooo
I’d suggest you stop watching it then
I, on the other hand, am looking forward to starting it later tonight
It’s really good
Alice in Borderland is so much better than that crappy show
It probably IS happening somewhere in the world, or something like it. But at least in the show, playing is a choice.
I personally believe that people that follow trends are dumbass sheep.
If I were you I'd be a lot more scared of your government then of a fictional deadly game show.
Private companies are way scarier than the government
Clearly you've never read a history book
Yeah I have
East India company
Dole
Basically any military supplier
East india company dosen't even scratch the 60 million people the Soviet union killed.
Soviet Union doesn't compare to the humongous environmental damage caused by companies like Shell
That have and will kill billions
Not to mention the military companies that fund US wars that kill millions of Americans and billions of foreigners
Billions of foreigners... you know there are only 7 billion people on the planet right.
Environmental damage... pretty sure chernobly tops anything shell has done.
So put down the gender studies book and go pick up a history book.
No it doesn't. Stop reading your Trump manifesto and pick up a science book
Ok go ahead site me some studies that show how much ecological damage shell has done.
Here's one on the pong term effects of chernobly for your scientific inquiry
Yeah oil spills aren't great but they can be cleaned up. Raising the background radiation on the entire planet for the next melinium on the other hand we can't clean up at least not yet. And the genetic damage caused by it will have repercussions for hundreds of thousands of years into the future.
They can't be cleaned up very effectively.

communism was the leading ideological cause of death between 1900 and 2000. The 94 million that perished in China, the Soviet Union, North Korea, Afghanistan, and Eastern Europe easily (and tragically) trump the 28 million that died under fascist regimes during the same period.
During the century measured, more people died as a result of communism than from homicide (58 million) and genocide (30 million) put together. The combined death tolls of WWI (37 million) and WWII (66 million) exceed communism's total by only 9 million.
The Natural World—which includes animals (7 million), natural disasters (24 million), and famine (101 million). Curiously, all of the world's worst famines during the 20th century were in communist countries: China (twice!), the Soviet Union, and North Korea.
Communism is a killer. And yet some still say they support the idea: According to a 2011 Rasmussen poll, 11% of Americans think that communism would better serve this country's needs than our current system.
Yeah and you know why companies make thier shit in China? Its Because taxes are so shit in thier home nations they can't turn a profit otherwise. Again government caused the problem.
But companies drive people to suicide, take over entire nations, dodge taxes and thusly derive people of adequate social programs, lobby governments to implement policies to protect their own interests, start and fund wars and destroy the environment
They have complete control over our world and the governments that you fear so much.
Companies would force the nation to be communist if it made them more money
And the scariest thing is, you can't vote them out of power.
Yes you can you can just not buy thier products, it's called voting with your wallet
You can't stop the millions of other people who buy products from those companies nor can you stop buying products when they aren't even being sold to you in the first place.
If they're such a big nasty evil wouldn't everyone want to boycott them and not give them money. Or is it that maybe just maybe those companies provide a good or service that people want and are willing to spend thier money on. You know what gets to spend my money on things I don't want? Government through taxation
If governments were such a big nasty evil wouldn't everyone want to overthrow them? Or is it that governments provide good services that people want and are willing to pay tax for
Insurance companies get to spend your money and you get nothing out of it
Wrong insurance companies pay for me if I wreck my car or break my leg. Not that I don't think some insurance is a scam.
As for governments aren't people like you always screaming about how a group of people staged an insurrection on January6th.
Almost like half the nation thinks the government is doing a shit job and wants it replaced.
If you don't make an insurance claim then they don't pay you back anything.
They staged an insurrection but it did nothing to stop Biden from going into office and just put a bunch of government officials lives in danger. When the French hated their government they had a revolution but America hasn't had one since the civil war. If half the country hated the government you'd think they'd do something about it.
What's your obsession with Communism @PinkPeach.
But all you've done is talk about communism
No it's very true. The only reply to this thread you've posted that wasn't directly about communism was the first one, then you went on to affirm the statement you made in that reply with links about communist regimes
You know I don't e en know what we are arguing about anymore. It's like we keep digging in the hole trying to find the shittiest parts of humanity when honestly the real answer is both government and the large corporations that collude with them both suck a big fat dong
You were talking about genocide committed by communist governments
Aww You will be just fine girl Nothing will happen to you
It's not a very realistic show at all. I had a lot of gripes with it. If its giving you anxiety then don't watch it.
Lol then you should not watch the movie SAW which is a great series
watch happy stuff. too many dark shows like this are not good for anybody
Too innocent
Not it seen yet. Would you suggest?
Personalmy no, but that‘s because I‘m not used to those things …
Kakegurui should fix that right up.
Then don't watch.
Stop watching.
Heartbeat of Christ
It is a crazy show
Don't watch.
Not seen it yet
Yep finished it..
