No guns or very well controlled sale of guns means FAR less gun violence. Can't get shot by someone if neither of you have guns.
There are over 300 million guns in the USA. Good luck with the “far less guns theory”. Sure you Can confiscated guns and disarm law abiding citizens. But do criminals give a fuck?

Considering that the average police response time is 15 minutes-an hour, I would be dead by then. Same thing with private security.

For some people who live out in the middle of nowhere and where it would take a long time for police to get to you, I can understand why they'd want to own a firearm for safety reasons
What gets me is people always using them for lethal force. Why shoot a threat in the face when you can just shoot it in the foot?

1. We’re not talking about being in the middle of a war. We’re talking about everyday life and hopefully not being stupid enough to get yourself in an at all relative situation.
2. A person can’t shoot back if they’re too hurt to hold the gun. Just make them drop the gun, grab it, and call the cops. You don’t need to kill someone to prevent them from shooting you.
I’m just asking why practically every civilian with a gun is using unnecessary force with them. It’s like asking why someone killed a threatening person with a baseball bat when they could have just knocked them unconscious. Why are so many people so quick to kill?

Police aren't there for you. They're there for the interest of the state. Private security is usually there for a business it hires. The only people that can afford that are the wealthy.

Its not always possible for police to get to you in time to stop physical harm. Most people can't afford private security. As long as you have common sense, and aren’t homicidal or suicidal you should be aloud to own a gun

Just do a mental health check. Most mass shooters are people who barely had any previous criminal record or no record at all. I think due to HIPPA laws is what makes this so difficult and the stubbornness of our nation. Obviously you can tell though I love guns based off my profile picture.

Yeah true. You can't test antisocial personality disorder which is what Ted Bundy had and what most serial killers have. But what about other mental disorders that you can test? Like Bipolar disorder? You can still test for other mental illnesses and disorders. Also the person who wants the gun would be paying for it. Just like any other additional fees when you pay for the gun, like paying the fee for your background check, gun transfer.
There is no fee for background checks and bipolar is not a reason to keep someone from purchasing. Transfer fees are only $10 and there are no transfer fees if you buy it directly from the store
Well the taxes can be relatively high. At least higher than usual for other items. Anyways agree to disagree I guess. Somebody who is bipolar is more likely to attempt a murder though just to be clear. That's been well documented. Anyways either do that or have everyone agree to own a gun which good luck doing that. By the way I am def more pro than anti that's for sure. I remember reading cases on the news where citizens in other countries where someone illegally got access to a gun and nobody could do anything to stop him. And another country where a guy committed a mass murder with a bow and arrow. in Norway. Anyways either way you will never be 100% safe regardless of what you do and like I said I agree its better to have the rights to own a gun. The criminal background check does help not allow most people who wouldn't own a gun and stops them in their tracks. So its all good. Again though if someone really tried hard enough they could still get access to a gun other ways like through the dark web for instance or from a friend or family member and just pay them.

In practicality do you know what it helps them with? Suicide. More than half the male suicides in the US are with a gun. Very effective method that's easy access there. More would survive their attempts if they didn't had them.

Second your big ass military is the reason you won against Japan. No one is advocating for the military to fight with sticks and rocks. The military is supposed ti have arms. Not the population. Armed population had literally nothing to do with your victory over Japan. After Pearl Harbor the fight US vs Japan happened most on Pacific islands like the Philippines, not on US mainland.

Japan didn't attack our mainland because our citizens are too heavily armed, that war was fought in the south pacific, you are just thinking in too small of a window. There's a larger picture, if our mainland is vulnerable than the entire free world is screwed.
Japan is a tiny little island. The real question is why did it take so long for a massive country many thousand times it's size to best it.

I can assure that the country of Japan wasn't afraid of random citizens with guns.
The US already at the time already was an industrial power with access to petroleum that Japan could only dream of. The biggest navy of the time, including submarines and aircraft carriers. In resume their military technology and sheer numbers was what was scary.
Even if Japan was small their troops had literally zero fear of death and would fight very fiercely. And the IS fought them mostly in Japanese occupied islands. Fighting in enemy territory never helps.
But you are right, the US and Japan are very far away. People have no idea the amount of logistics that Japan put on pearl harbor attack in order to succeed due to that distance.
And Germany was anything but small. At the time they were part of the arms race. Had top tier engineers and we're a colossal force on land and air. Not so much on the sea.

So the chance of you dying shot by a robber is small and fun fact, you have a higher chance of living if you don't have a gun. People who report “firearm access” are at twice the risk of homicide.
