If Vaccines, lockdowns passports and mandates work, why is the number one most Vaccinated mandated and restricted city in the US leading in New covid cases while Florida has the lowest infection rates?

How does that evidence support "the science"?

Please help me understand why the rest of us should hold NYC to be an example for how to stop Covid nation wide.

And while we are at it, can you explain how and why shortening buisness hours and forcing people to all shot at the same time slows the spread? Because I used to shop at Walmart at 3am just to avoid being within 6 feet of other people, but now I have to go when it's busy and wait in line for 20 minutes.

Because the entire point of the NPIs was to slow the spread, to keep the hospital system from being overwhelmed. Not stop it- it was obvious from the beginning that that was impossible- but slow it. It was acknowledged that over those two weeks, we'd lose a few people from everything being closed, but it was a decision made to save the MOST lives. Evidently, the lockdowns caused serious brain damage, because people began thinking Covid could be avoided, and if we waited long enough, it'd die out without spreading to everyone. This, despite the fact that it (ostensibly) spread to humans from another animal, and (ostensibly) has spread to at least a dozen other species.

When the decision to lock down came, Noem said "F#&K it" and refused, and De Santis said "F#&K you" and promptly opened back up. And soon, boom! Herd immunity. It's the only way this can end; some people like to pretend otherwise.

To begin with the CDC has been warning everyone for nearly year that while the vaccines were effective against the variants at the time there could potentially come a point where the variants mutate so much that the vaccines no longer work. So there's no reason this should come as a surprise.

Second of all the CDC said almost a year ago that they would need boosters to eventually fight against the virus and true enough evidence so far shows that the booster is actually effective against the Omicron variant. The problem is only 18 percent of the entire population USA has gotten the booster meaning 82 percent or in other words the overwhelming majority of people in the USA are not adequately protected against the Omicron variant.

Don't forget prior to the Omicron variant becoming the dominant variant Delta was the dominant variant and while there were breakthrough cases keep two things in mind.

1. More than 90 percent of cases were either among the unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

2. They warned that if covid continued to mutate boosters would be necessary.

3. They never claimed 100 percent efficacy. Moderna and Pfizer were both around 92 percent and Johnson and Johnson was 72 percent.

Do you have a source for any of that?

I think all 4 of those points are false. The Vaccines had pitifully efficacy against the Alpha varient. They were even worse against Delta and they have been saying they won't to much of anything to stop the spread of Omicron.

But they insisted that they were NOT going to require aditional shots and called anyone who said that was the plan crazy. When did the CDC ever say they would require aditional shots? Not until about a month ago.

What evidence that the boosters are affective against Omicron? Let's see it. I have heard the liberal media and Fauci saying the opposite.

Omicron hasn't even HIT most of the country. Places are reporting their first cases still. How do you figure it's already the dominant varient?

Can you back up any of these statements with factual evidence? If you can I'll be impressed. But I don't think they are true.

It's also an old statistic. Let's see the numbers on hospitalizations now that 95% of people over 65 are double dosed. I bet most hospitalizations are in vaccinated people by now but they can't produce any new statistics.

Saying 90% were unvaccinated doesn't mean anything when 50% were before the vaccine and 40% of people still aren't vaccinated. If the vaccine did absolutely nothing you'd still expect 70% of hospitalizations to be people who hadn't had it.

So maybe it prevents 2/3 hospitalizations but maybe that was the early treatment now that there actually is some in some places. Maybe the most at risk got it right away because they didn't have a strong immune system.

If the vaccine stopped the spread why were there more cases in the year with Vaccines than the year without them? They obviously didn't prevent 90% of cases in 60% of the population or there would be less cases.

And for the record. 70% is if the 60% who are vaccinated all got it the day it was released.

If it was a linear roll out (which is oversimplification) you'd expect more like 85% of hospitalizations to be unvaccinated if the vaccine has 0% efficacy.

That 90% is thrown around a lot but it doesn't mean anything if you understand the statistics.

If 85% of people were hospitalized before they got the shot and 90% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated the Vaccine is only preventing 1/3 hospitalizations. And that's including any effect on transmission.

If 90% of new hospitalizations TODAY were unvaccinated that would be impressive but I don't think that is the stat.

But hey, maybe I'm wrong and you can show me some of the facts you are claiming.

Yes I admit that I did mistake hospitalizations with vaccination rates that being said positive tests were still significantly lower for those who were fully vaccinated vs those who were partially vaccinated or unvaccinated.

As far as the alpha variant goes the studies show that the Pfizer vaccine was 95 percent effective against severe covid and death in regards to the alpha variant.

If you look at the data for the delta variant cases in the USA a study just this past November found unvaccinated people were 20 times more likely to die from the delta variant than the unvaccinated and by this point Delta had already been in the USA for months. If you look at the statistics for positive covid cases from January 15,2021 to October 1, 2021 a study looked at 1,545,390 positive PCR and antigen tests. The Delta variant was dominant by late July and the vaccines were available to the general public for months by October. What they found was that 85 percent of all positive cases were among the unvaccinated and 12 percent were among the partially vaccinated meaning only 3 percent were among the fully vaccinated. If you look at the chart on page 5 of this link what you will find is yes positive cases among the fully vaccinated did increase when the delta variant became dominant in recent months but the overwhelming majority of cases were among the unvaccinated. More specifically if you look from September 2021 to October 2021 the unvaccinated were 13 times more likely than the the fully vaccinated to test positive. If you look at page 6 from September 1 to October 1 there were roughly 170,000 positive cases. What's more is by September 1 53.8 of Americans were fully vaccinated and by October 1, 56.7 percent of Americans were fully vaccinated so there was only a slight increase. I admit was wrong about the CDC stating it for almost a year I mixed up Pfizer's statement with the CDC BUT that does not mean other people were not saying so. I didn't read all the links but that's actually pretty good. I believe you about the ones I didn't.

Changed my mind about a few things. It does look like in practice the Vaccines are making a substantial difference.

But that doesn't really change my mind.

A few things I will mention is that the positive cases are only reported if they are TESTED. So most asymptomatic cases are never recorded. Estimates say that could be up to 2/3 of all cases.

So if the vaccine reduces symptoms, positive cases amongst the vaccinated are literally to go unreported a majority of the time.

I could even make the argument that the vaccinated are putting old people at risk more than the unvaccinated because at least we know when we have it. But I won't. I don't think it's bad to take the shot. Just that the data is certainly not complete and there is a known sampling bias towards unvaccinated people reporting cases.

The same goes for hospitalizations. If you have no symptoms and you go to the hospital for a broken bone, they make you take a test. If you never spend a night in the hospital, never have a covid symptom, but you test positive... That gets reported as a covid hospitalization.

People who don't follow all the rules are more likely to go to the hospital for reasons unrelated to covid.

You make a great case for the Vaccines making a difference to cases and hospitalizations but I still think the data is skewed. They might be better than I thought but they still aren't anywhere near as good as most other vaccines. It also depends on what study you choose. You can't really trust the company who sells the shots to do an unbiased study on how well they work.

But sure, I give you that the vaccines make a difference. I was never under the impression that they didn't reduce the chance of a positive test or a hospitalization. But the stats you posted are better than the ones I saw many months ago. It helps that there has been time for the data to stabilize a bit. But there has also been time for hospitals, drug companies and governments to report what they want to and not what they don't.

I bet the guy who was shot 4 times in the chest was doccumented as an "unvaccinated covid death" when he had already recovered from covid and was back our running around in the street.

So then... Why does NYC have one of the highest vaccination rates and one of the highest infection rates? Why aren't they making the difference there? Why aren't the restrictions and mask mandates and everything else?

Is it possible the data is biased? It's obvious the data is biased. But if we compromise and say they make a difference but don't outright prevent the spread, Why doesn't that translates to lower infection rates in New York and LA than there are in Miami and WV?

My theory is that the measures aren't working. But that they are actually slowing the spread of immunity and dragging the whole thing out. People are still getting sick. They are just getting sick at a different time. Whereas places that don't enforce all these rules are pretty much through the worst of it and ready to go back to normal living by now.

I commend you for being open minded enough to reconsider some of your points.

It is true that many covid cases will undiagnosed due to being asymptomatic you are right about that but keep this in mind the vaccines do significantly reduce asymptomatic cases as well. So while yes unfortunately many asymptomatic cases will go undiagnosed the vaccines are known to reduce asymptomatic cases by a significant margin. Granted this article is from March so the number of asymptomatic cases has definitely increased but still with the boosters and the fact that the vaccines up until recently were fairly effective does indicate that asymptomatic cases are likely still significantly lower among the unvaccinated.

As far as smoking cigarettes go you're only allowed to smoke in certain areas to avoid hurting people through second hand smoke.

With obesity you're not harming others by being obese there's no risk of spreading obesity to others and while it is a serious problem obesity is not overwhelming the healthcare system the way covid is.

The CDC does not automatically rule a death as a death by covid if you go their website they have videos explaining what qualifies as a covid death. So there are a lot of people in New York in a limited space and in a cold environment while there is a pandemic that is known to be worse in cold weather. What's more is the new Omicron variant is fast becoming the dominant variant in America and the vaccines are much weaker against Omicron than other variants. The boosters fortunately are very effective against the Omicron variant but the overwhelming majority of people in America in general as well as in New York have not gotten the boosters yet. One of those factors alone is a risk. Imagine all of those factors combined. If you think about it then it makes sense that case numbers are so high there.

You make a lot of good points but you're wrong about smoking and obesity.

SELLING cigarettes is legal. That kills 1/5 Americans including a lot of people who don't smoke from second hand smoke. And I still think it should be up to the restaurant owners. People can spend their money where they want to.

McDonald's sells obesity. In Ireland, the majority of things they sell are illegal to call food so the ingredients are drastically different. But the US government doesn't do anything to stop either of those even though they kill way more people than covid.

Meanwhile, the lockdowns, passports and mandatory injections may have prevented some fatalities but they definitely caused others. And it's safe to say, looking at NY, they definitely didn't work.

They said it was to flatten the curve, but at this point it seems to be just dragging the whole thing out. Let the people who want shots get them. Let the people who don't get covid. (not that the people who did won't likely get it too)

I almost let my wrist stay broken because the last time someone put a needle in me I woke up 30 hours later in a different city locked up, stripped of my rights and never got a trial.

Again sure places like McDonald’s might sell obesity but no one is forcing you to go there. Being around an obese person is not contagious. As far as fatalities go you’re far more likely to die from covid than you are from the vaccine. Covid has had a 2 percent fatality rate in the USA.
