Why is there an attraction to being from the hood?

I moved to the suburbs recently, and I see all these white boys claiming blood and crip, and it's infuriating as hell. There are white people geniunely from the hood, no doubt, but the fakeness pisses me off. I moved to the surburbs to NOT live in the hood. They're so priveleged and don't understand the reality of being shot at, having real opps, the very real possibility of dying from violence unexpectedly at any given moment, the trauma of witnessing your best friend's murder, getting shot yourself when you try to avenge him. When you act like you're from the hood and you aren't belittling and making insignificant the trauma and adversity we ACTUALLY went through. It seems my city's (Philly) culture is especially copied for some reason. It just makes me really put hands on people. I tried to separate myself for a reason and you think it's cool. What's the attraction?

Most kids that live in the burbs that join gangs aren’t typically from stable households... Often they are poor kids who live with a single mom. Their mom might be an alcoholic or a junkie of some sort that lives paycheck to paycheck on minimum wage or close to it and might disappear for days at a time… They might live with a single dad that kicks their ass on a regular basis and they end up out on the streets at night. Often they are renters, they eat school lunch because there is no food at home, etc. They sell drugs, steal cars and sell them to chop shops, rob houses, mug people, shop lift, do smash and grabs, etc. to find money to take care of themselves. Sometimes the only reason a person can live in the burbs is because of section 8 rental assistance. If you think everyone in the burbs is well off or there is no crime going on you’re delusional. If you read the papers you will see people getting killed in ordinary residential neighborhoods in drug deals and home invasions. Rent is higher in the cities. People leave the cities for cheaper rent many times because they just can't afford it. People that struggle do crime. Every city no matter how clean has dirt in the cracks.

Yeah actually it is. For example one of my brothers lives in Hollywood, FL. His house is valued at about $600K right now due to commercial development. Go to your favorite map software and type it in… Look at all the single family homes with pools and shit… The beach is just minutes away… Hollywood isn't exactly a shinny star, but it is a suburb of larger cities like Ft. Lauderdale and Miami... Just yesterday a guy got drag out of his car and beat into a pool of his own blood at the stop light outside my brother window. Supposedly he was begging for change at the light and the guy wouldn't give him any money, so he pulled him out his window and beat him down. Probably some fucking junkie. For a number of years there was a gang drug war going on in his neighborhood and bodies would drop on his street just about every other week. Thankfully that’s slowed down. Floka zombies roam around in the streets just about every night. Prostitutes on the streets is the norm. My brother has been jumped over nothing multiple times running to the corner store to grab a beer. He got knocked out by 5 guys that jumped him over nothing a couple of years ago, but luckily his dog had had his back and sent 2 of them to the hospital, scared the other 3 off and guarded his unconscious body until the police showed up. He got jumped by a guy by 2 guys and a girl maybe six months ago. One of the guys said he was looking at his girl funny when he didn’t even see them coming… I keep telling him to sell that house take the cash and run, but his job is a couple of minutes away, and he can’t find much that will pay him as well in this economy. That’s pretty fucking normal activity in that neighborhood and crime in south Florida has dropped way low. I suspect it will pick up in the coming years... That's why I got the fuck out.

You were under the impression that White people are “privileged” and have it good. You claimed that people in the suburbs don't interact with people from the city. I pointed out with an example suburb in Florida that the crime you were experiencing in your big city is normal crime in a suburb in a low crime period in history. Crime is at an all time low in south Florida right now, yet daily people are being gunned down, stabbed in the chest, beaten in the streets, and so on. I told you all you have to do is look in the cracks for hard people... Crimes back on the way back up though… So maybe you’ll get a taste of reality in the coming decade...

That really gets under my skin and it also really ticks me off when people act as if things like hard drug use and violent crimes only happen in non-white neighborhoods. I grew up in majority white neighborhoods where things like heavy meth/crack use and muggings are common. Yet someone wants to act like they are from a neighborhood like that? Sometimes we need a scared straight program where the suburb "gangsters" are dropped off in a fucked up area with a map for several hours and left to fend for themselves.
