Why is he always around me?

I have a coworker I'm fond of but he seems to contradict himself all the time.

He rarely talks to me and if he does its about work only yet he socializes with everyone else. If we all hang out after work he doesn't talk to me. He won't have lunch with me either.

Yet, he always wants me to carpool with him to events, always wants to run errands with me, or asks me to go with him to presentations.

If others are around its like I don't exist and if something happens to me hell act like he's not concerned but if we are alone somepont that day or that week..he will bring it up. I know he cares/worries about me I just don't understand his behavior.

He makes no sense. What do you think?
He likes you but isn't sure your interested/doesn't think your interested but will pursue you if it is mutual

To add he: always pays for me if we are alone, holds doors open for me, long and drawn out goodbyes, doesn't like it when guys bug me too much, and never makes fun of me like he does with others.


He doesn't: goof off with me, talk to me about non work things, ask me about my personal life.
