Dont know why their officer saying that. Do you think there is more consideration of politics?
First, China's military is not attack type that is defensive type. They dont try to develop attack type. Second American weapon is going to enter to ukraine. I think USA will not allow it two system weapon in it and USA still influence much in ukraine. So that may because the relationship between China and Russia but it is still hard for China. They take ukraine and russia is the same nation if dont go to detail more. At leass they went throught USSR together. So they take it as brother fighting. I think China would not stop them fighting if lost in culture. It is like they are fighting till desire peace now so that they know that meaning in the bottom. Like euroepan would start to get rid of desire to think that is bad.

Ukraine has for a long time wanted to be free of Russia like many ex soviet or imperial Russian states.
The Chinese military is based on Russian designs and equipment which have been shown to be inferior to NATO equipment. The Ukraine conflict has shown how far behind and how weak both Russia and China are.
Maybe one day Hong Kong, manchuria, tibet and other States within China may free themselves

As a Taiwanese you should feel safer looking at russia's failure in Ukraine. Russian planes and helicopters shot down, Russian armour destroyed all by hand held weapons. Ukraine is nowhere near as well armed as Taiwan. Red china's dream of invading Taiwan looks like a nightmare now...
