It should not be her job to retreat into her home before she shoots. I'd have done the exact same thing in her shoes.
Here is the article.. nypost.com/.../
www.cdc.gov/.../fastfact.html
The CDC won't provide a number, but what I see is an estimate of 1.67 million times a year guns are used in self-defense. I'd imagine that includes just showing and preventing action though.
Anyway, unless you live on the west coast or northeast, you should and do have the right to defend yourself, if you're in those two places, invest in visqueen, lime, and a good spade shovel along with some hiking.
Hell yes! I support her actions.
@Bluemax The stand your ground law is a statutory defense categorized under Florida’s justifiable uses of force (“self-defense”). The statute states that a person in his or her dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle has the right to stand his or her ground and use or threaten to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes such force is necessary to prevent imminent death, great bodily harm, or prevent the commission of a forcible felony.
When Does Stand Your Ground Apply?
First, to claim the defense, a person must be located in a dwelling, residence or occupied vehicle. A dwelling or residence is a home, building, or other structure (including a tent) that is designed for people to stay overnight. The definition of dwelling or residence also extends to a porch or other structure attached to a building or house. To claim the stand your ground defense, a person must have lawful access to the dwelling or residence. This is why “stand your ground” is sometimes referred to as the “castle doctrine,” which allows a person to protect his or her home, or “castle.” However, most states have the “castle doctrine;” what Florida does is extend it outside of a person’s home (or “castle”).
To claim the defense, a person must have a reasonable belief of impending death or great bodily harm. There is a presumption that a person intended death or great bodily harm when the one harmed by deadly force was attempting to unlawfully or forcibly enter a dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle or was in the process or removing another against that person’s will from a dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle. Simply stated, there must be a clear reason to believe there is a threat someone is about to commit a crime at the dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle. Examples include a burglar breaking into your home or a kidnapper attempting to kidnap someone in the home or car.
What Force May Be Used?
The stand your ground statute allows the use of deadly force where there is a threat of death or great bodily harm. Deadly force is force that is capable of taking someone’s life. As the statute allows the use of deadly force in self-defense, stand your ground is often used as a defense in homicide cases.
What Are The Exceptions To Stand Your Ground?
Stand your ground only applies when the person using deadly force is in a place he or she is legally allowed to be and is not in the process of committing a crime. Thus, this is not a defense when someone harms another person while trespassing, breaking and entering, or committing any other crime.
Stand your ground also does not apply in situations where the person using deadly force provoked the other person or the other person already attempted to leave the premises. Thus, this is not a defense when someone picks a fight or the other person is running away.
Finally, stand your ground is not a defense when force is used against a law enforcement officer performing an official duty of the job. Thus, this is not a defense when someone harms a police officer serving a warrant or chasing a suspect.

I do not practice in the area of criminal law so I borrowed this explanation from another attorney's web site; this looks like a clear and direct explanation.
While I agree that everyone has a right to protect their family and home with lethal force, I will shoot the home invader in the leg or something, to incapacitate him. I want the person to be behind bars instead of me killing a person. I have no wish to be an excutioner.
Your statement shows you've never shot a gun before. Hitting a leg or an arm is WAY harder than hitting center mass. Source.. I've owned and shot guns for nearly 30 years.
100% agreed. Nice shot, honey
Have you seen the votes? 3 so far for the second one holy crap.
Agreed!!!

She definitely deserves an award. That’s one less criminal/anarchist in the world.
#Don’tmesswithTexas
She did her job as a parent and did was she had to do in order to protect her children. I see no issue with that. Even if she didn't have kids, why should she have to take any chances because some scumbag broke into HER home? 100% justified.
Agreed
There's a very simple answer to this...
Law obeying citizens don't break into houses.
If anything laws like the castle doctrine & stand your ground should indeed be enacted in every state. However, I am totally absolutely against the right to carry for just anyone.
In today's world a simple fender bender can get someone shot. Happened a few times... teeny dicked thugs or slut-whore women with a chip on the shoulder shooting someone who "wronged" them & reality is normal people wouldn't think anything of it.
She would have had no way of knowing what his intentions were and she has the right to defend herself, her children, and her home. I don't have a problem with her actions.
Same I would venture that I would likely do the same if I were in her situation. Thank God my states law is the same.
Yes. Defend your home to intruders. Of course.
I had someone walk into my home uninvited high as a kite on some drug. My 11 month (at the time) german shepherd roared a round of barking and went after them before anyone knew what was going down. They slammed the door behind them. He just knew they were no good.
That's what Mama bears do to protect their children. I am sorry she had that trauma thrust upon her. She is very brave and an incredible mother and protector.
It didn't surprise me when they said his name - Hispanic and in Texas. Probably a rookie illegal. I would like to know if he was an illegal.
I am extremely grateful for her courage and ability booth physically have a weapon radially available and legally able to fully protect herself, family and property! I am sad more do not chose or are not allowed to fully protect themselves! We must be our first line of defense! We cannot rely upon police to protect us when it's an immediate threat!
In the uk she would be jailed. For me I think whatever happened is on the burglar because she had no idea what his intentions were whether it be just to Rob them of some stuff or to kill them and rape them. It's a situation that's not in her control.
It's sad that you can go to jail for defending your self in the UK. It just proves my point on why the 2nd amendment is a good thing.
Yeah for the most part I agree with castle doctrine
If they break into your house and they pose a potential threat and they are currently in your house you totally have the right to shoot them in my opinion
Don’t come into my house… I’ve got a Glock 42 … .45 cal in my night stand. And I learned to shoot when I was little.
Too many people, of certain political leanings seem to think that criminals deserve more rights than the people they are making victims.
Give her a medal.
Castle doctrines/stand your ground laws should exist in every state. Do I value the life of a stranger over my right to feel safe and secure in my home? Some of y'all won't like my answer to that. 😅
Ey, down here in "hell" we don't fk around. You fk with us too much or cross the line, we shoot. I'd shoot too if some mofo comes at me with fatal harm, i don't play these mercy games.
I don't think people deserve rewards simply for exercising their rights. With something like this especially, I think the greatest reward would be to move on with her life in peace.
I voted 'A'. Good for her. No sleep lost on that home invader. He deserved it. Who knows what he would have done.
I love seeing videos of thugs getting shot. They always look so surprised. LOL
I just bought a couple of firearms and will be getting trained the end of this month for a few days, I am pissed it has come to this but I have to be able to defend myself and my home. I hope I never have to use them except to practice.
I'm not Californian, so I'm not going to side with the burglar who broke into a family's home. (Not even if he's gay and black!)
It is entirely possible in California that she *would* face criminal charges.
I tend to agree with the castle doctrine.
The only one that can protect you is you the cops will not a stranger only you they should have it if you have a fence, around your house and someone comes in you fence that should be the same as you house
I feel as she is perfectly justified. Someone breaks into my home they better prepare for a party. I love ap.
