Why is smoking much more vilified than other vices?

One of the most constant criticism I receive is that in most photos and public occasions I'm smoking. People say it sets a bad example for the youth.
And yet, just yesterday, my police deputy posted a photo of her vacation, complete with bikini and alcoholic drink in hand. Nobody said anything.
A fellow mayor published a picture of himself eating Big Mac upon Big Mac.
Nobody said anything.

I find it peculiar that smoking always gets singled out compared to other vices. I don't blow smoke in other people's faces and I keep my distance, and yet even in photo a cigarette is considered offensive.

True, but it's a rule that people keep distant from me, and I always put myself downwind so they don't get secondhand smoke.

I frequently see people smoking outside of a restaurant but they are within 10-15 feet of the front entrance and it is impossible to enter without inhaling their smoke. Bit I do know that not all smokers are inconsiderate.

I would argue that alcohol has far greater deleterious societal impacts than smoking tobacco.

Drunk driving deaths. Domestic abuse. Assaults in bars. DUIs. Liver failure. Medical costs for caring for alcoholics and their shot livers.

Smoking isn’t exactly good for you, but drinking isn’t something that doesn’t have an impact beyond the drinker. If anything I think it may ultimately be worse for a society than drinking.

Yes. There is. Some substances are measurably more impactful than others.

Your chances of being killed by a drunk driver are much higher than catching cancer from
walking past someone smoking.

But those smokers spreading their stink around. They’re a problem.

Alcohol is by far the worst drug in the world. 100x worse than a cigarette. They are both bad, but alcohol has caused more death and destruction than any drug everyday. It’s legal and makes the most money. People can’t have a good time without alcohol. Some people need it to sleep. Most rape occurs because the victim was intoxicated. Cigarettes just have a terrible smell and it bothers people just breathing it in. There are a ton of companies dedicated to the bad image of cigarettes. If only they attacked alcohol too. Not just “don’t drink and drive”. It should be vilified. It destroys lives. Anyone who has had alcoholic parents, siblings, or romantic partners would know this.

I cannot stand cigarette smoke. I can smell it in my car at a traffic light of the person in front of me is smoking. Same at the beach or anywhere outside. It's repulsive. Imagine showing a picture of someone letting their flatulence fly, that's repulsive too. I don't think people of influence should be promoting cigarettes, drugs, or alcohol to our youth. While fast food is unhealthy, it's still considered food.

Because it smells horrible, and causes anyone around the smoker to smell horrible. Not to mention, it can cause health problems for others.

It used to be a lot more acceptable and it was actually considered cool. People are finally realizing it is not cool. I think that making them cost ten bucks a pack had more to do with it than all the phony stop smoking campaigns.

I'm not sure but as a cigar smoker I'm not really villified could be I mainly smoke around fellow BOTL (I presently don't know any SOTL) or could be the fistfuls of rings and my construction grade boots

Drinking is harder to go after since it rarely leads to car crashes. Weed is pretty much legal and no longer profitable to talk shit about. Tobacco has been taxed more than gas even nowadays. From non smoking sections to take that shit outside, smoking has been considered the ashtray of society for decades.
