I'm an atheist, are we that rare in an hispanic community?

As a little kid, I always hated going to church. For me it was a total waste of time full of worthless talks and I even fell asleep once and got reprimanded for that.

My parents couldn't take me anymore during my mid teen years because I would either refuse or stay up all night long on purpose and fall asleep. Then during my freshman year of college, I got drunk one day and spilled the beans. I told everyone in the family, came out as an atheist. The reaction was of a total shock full of many questions, them thinking I had a bad experience or something happened and I received little support.

Nothing bad happened. I just refuse to believe in imaginary beings watching over you or talk to statues (so called saints) that don't talk to you. I have to admit something I feel alone in this. Are we that rare in an hispanic community?

I feel you. Thank god my parents don't force their religious beliefs on me. I'm afraid I'm the only atheist in my college because everyone else is like "god is watching" and I'm like, "he's a sadist".

You stick to your guns. Don't visit any religious place, like ever. Not even out of respect. It shows you're owning your ground.

Even though my parents accept me by now, they still think I was somewhat influenced or something. Nope. I'm just the way I am. It can suck that I can't relate to many people in the community on beliefs.

My parents accept me by now but once in a while they wonder if they did something wrong. Wow... They did nothing wrong. I'm just like that because that's me.
I would be cool finding like-minded people at this.
