Many are claiming this is a step to making abortion illegal in the UK.
My question however is since the UK isn't as religious as America is the real reason politicians want to kiss American ass to get something?

Trending & News A few years ago, Republicans began putting people into judicial positions including the Supreme Court. Those people only gained support by swearing that they believed Supreme Court past decisions were "done deals" and it would be completely wrong to change them with changes in which party had the majority. Then Trump created his cult and started putting people into those positions who had no commitment to doing the right thing and his cult accepted anything he said to gain his favor. Now those justices are doing things that they had sworn they would not. And his cult is changing voting laws and redrawing voting districts to desinfrancise liberals. Many Republicans are fed up with what Trump has done and is still doing and many, including members of his family, are testifying against him. Trump continues the OBVIOUS lies and his cult backs him up, kissing his ass all the way. Our biggest problem is the large number of people who continue to kiss his ass even though they know he is a liar and bad for America. If the UK is making its choices because of what is happening in America, they are choosing to kiss Trump's ass. So it appears the choice there is whether or not to go the route of kissing Trump's ass. You folks are going to have to decide if that is what you are going to do.
I don't know anything about UK politics and I won't pretend to as an American. That being said abortion was not banned in the US. The outrage you see is a mix of ignorance, anger and a fundamental lack of understanding. The supreme court did not ban abortion, they deemed the Roe v Wade ruiling outside the bounds of federal powers. According to the constitution "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people". This applies for our bill of rights too. To make a long story short each state has the right to make abortion legal or illegal. That is the correct ruiling, however the house and Senate have the right to make it a federally guaranteed law and the democrats had the majority in both for years and never did. Now the moronic outcry by the democrats is hypocritical to say the least. So, I don't know what the UK is doing but it has nothing to do with the US (I'm pro choice by the way).
I hope not. The issue is a hot mess here, in part due to the College of Cardinals (formerly the Supreme Court) and Christian nationalists trying to erase the line separating church and state. I certainly don't wish this mess on you.
I call em the high priests of America now
American here. Holy shit, I hope not.
The U. S. government screwed up with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. I don't want that bullshit to spread to the rest of the world too.
The U. S. is not worth appeasing.

I thought it was a hoax until I clicked the link you shared. Though to be honest, if this was not brought infront of parliament as a Bill to be debated and either passed or failed, who ever made the attempt to erase or alter the meaning of such laws would be illegal and punishable by law.
I am very sure it is a mistake. I wouldn't get so excited about it. I know UK politics is being lead by the Conservatives, but even they would not go down that route.
As much as America is inseparable from the UK on the international stage, domestically, The US and the UK are quite different in culture.
Some of the things that happen in America would not hold up in the UK and as you stared rightly, America has a religious influence depending on the state you go to. And there are way too many religions in America compared to the UK. Regardless of the fact that the UK is also accommodating of any religion, The Anglican Church is still the number one influence in UK politics.
As a once member of the Anglican church due to upbringing and family values, the Anglican Church is not so restricting nor is it as Conservative as some religions in America.
So don't even pay much attention to that article it is just some writer blowing hot air. Of course through what they might have observed. I am not accusing them of lying.
Nah, won’t happen.
there is active discussion to sort out the decriminalisation of abortion.
The way the law is written and in place would make it hard for parliament to change.

those with a record of voting against abortion.
Decriminalisation bill
This doesn't make any sense at all.
The U. S. doesn't care if the UK bans abortion or doesn't ban abortions.
The U. S. has been more liberal on the subject of Abortion than nearly every European country.
In the United states, 39 states legal limits were 21-30 weeks and 8 states were 31-40 weeks.
Nearly every country in Europe's legal limit is 11-20 weeks. In America, Only Texas and Alabama were this low or lower.
In Europe, only Iceland and the Netherlands have legal limits at 21-30 weeks.
If the United States cared (or even had the ability), we'd have forced them to become more liberal a long time ago. This isn't how the world works.
Time for a change of government.
Yesterday's HardTalk on the BBC had an anti-choice woman from America on it who flat out lied about what Roe meant. She claimed it stopped states from passing laws restricting "abortion up until the end, paid for by taxpayers". Absolutely shameless.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
I'm not sure what to make of this. The referenced Guardian newspaper link says this is not a law that's being considered by Parliament, but part of a statement on gender equality. Perhaps the intent is not to ban abortion in the UK (which has been legal since the 1967 Abortion Act) but to take a stand on transgender rights?
We must protect the American fetuses that are conceived abroad. We must make the world safe for democracy by implanting American children in the wombs of women everywhere, including yours!
Bramerica! Bramerica! God shed his grace on thee!
It would be interesting to see how many illegitimate American half breed are running around.
Abortion is evil. It should be banned world-wide. It's one step down the ladder from Human Sacrifice, and it's just another name for "murder".
Maybe we should take some scissors and cut out the brains of the baby-murdering women, the way they do to the baby. Evil bitches.
"Appease the USA"? Considering that the executive and legislative branches in the US are under the control of people who probably support abortion up until the day of birth, just who would the UK be "appeasing" here? Makes no sense, just like all leftist scaremongering.
Interesting. I thought I was in touch with UK politics and I haven't heard a whisper about this story. Then again, everyone is focussing on the meaningless competition for the Conservative leadership.
I can't see how it would appease America since Biden already supports abortion.
No.
The problem is we have these fucking conservatives in charge as usual who are determined to bring us back to the stone age. Fuck the US, who cares what the US does/wants. The UK has its own problems.
I think it might have something to do with wanting to stop demographic shift and territorial loss. As things get harder counties are shifting into ethnostates. Most eastern countries are already like that.
Just about every political decision is based on someone getting their palms greased!
Changing a document that has already been signed by several countries to make it more vague. Another triumph for Truss and the UK.
And this could be out new 'leader'.
The report says little about why it was changed though.
Why would that appease the USA? And more importantly; why would the UK care about appease the the USA?
probably.. this country sets the tone for the rest of the planet
The reason is you don’t know the men of your own country as well as you think. The women as well.
We can't even get you people to use basic oral hygiene. Like we really care whether you have abortion or not. 🤣
they try to copy US because they know we are #1 and wish they were still #1
Don't ever expect the UK or the US to attempt to appease each other.
Na, thay are just protecting the life of the unborn child.
lmao. That doesn't make sense.
Dont think we’re that powerful
Tje UK is more religious than the US
It’s really not
@AmourHoney The US is one of the least religious places in the world. You need to take into account that we're a very large country, so we have people who are more religious than people in other countries, but percentage wise we're not more religious than most other countries.
Ha. No.
The UK doesn't have a 'bible belt' or the weird need to push separation of church and state. The US has way more of a theist pressure in its politics.
Got a link?
@CountessSarah True, the UK doesn't have a bible b er ly, and the bible belt is a small fraction of our population. It alone is still probably greater in number than the entire UK. The thing is a lot of people in government are religious which leads to laws being made on religious grounds, but that doesn't mean most people are.
Oh no :(
It's the right thing hing to do
UK has always kissed the US's ass
Good news.
