Is Turkey actually a first-world, developed, super-wealthy nation?

Turkey is a "First World nation" now? I always thought Turkey was a third-world sh*thole? No offense.

The US, Canada, western Europe (24), Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand, yes, I can understand. There should be only thirty-two First World countries in the world, in total, if you count Hong Kong (thirty-one if you don't). They're all definitely First World nations in terms of wealth. Although Greece barely counts as a First World country and is at the very bottom of the list. And South Africa, despite what people think, definitely should NOT count as a "First World Country," despite the white colonialism there.

But when TF did Turkey become an ultra wealthy "First World nation," according to these maps? And by this, they do mean wealth, not a NATO state. One map even claims Iran and Iraq are "First World" countries, in both the "US allies" and "economically wealthy" sense... WTF? And Cuba is a "second world" country in the economic sense? Really? And French Guiana, Suriname, and Guyana are "first world" countries by being NATO allies AND economically?

I usually find that these maps take countries at face value, if the country's government says the country is doing fine, that is what the maps will assume. North korea, Latin America (all of the countries inculded), and Turkey are all third world countries. Turkey is definitely no where near to being a first world country like many Northern European countries are.

Turkey used to be the center of civilization, the offspring of Rome.

It's now a hellhole like all muslim counties. Perhaps they shout treet women like human beings and separate their religion from their politics.

Turkish armed forces is the second largest standing military force in NATO after the U. S. armed forces, also Turky is westernized country, though it might become a shithole thanks to Erdogan.

I don't think there's a single Westernized thing about Turkey, in my opinion. It's mostly a Muslim country.

The map is wrong... during the cold war 1st, 2nd and 3rd world designations made sense. After the cold war it started to make less and less sense so they came up with the human development index which allows you to do an apples to apples comparison of any 2 countries on earth and that is all people should use now.

I don't think 1st world was ever defined as "wealthy" anyhow. it originally had to do with NATO alignment versus warsaw & soviet alignment.

The HDI is bullsh*t itself and basically measures a country as being "good" based on how Liberal/"woke" it is. That's why Scandinavia is always ranked at the top, despite them being socialist countries with little freedom of speech or expression compared to most of the rest of the West. Try being conservative or right-wing in Sweden and they'll basically lock you up for "hate speech." Same with Germany and so many other anti-free-speech Western countries ranked higher than the English speaking ones.

I stated in the description how the First World terms USED to be related to NATO status, but have since evolved into referring to economic status.

I don't agree with parts of HDI outside of industry and finances... anything that is based on feelings of 'happiness' is suspect. And yeah, it's not necessarily going to measure what you and I care about either (politics). I guess any measurements are -- in some way - used to promote a political goal. That's also why you shouldn't trust FBI crime stats.

Turkey is still second world. Greece belongs in that category too. After the next few winters, most of Western Europe will be there too. Most of America is second world now. A minority live in nice areas.

No it's apart of NATO and we have a base out there & Turkey was once the great ottoman empire. A very civilized quiet country with a huge military. The woman out their are Hella bad too.

I don't know, I think all of these "World" designations are arbitrary labels anyway. Based on health care access, the US is a "Third World" country.

The poor and working class people have free Medicare provided by the state, and the rich people can afford top-rate insurance, so how? Universal healthcare in Canada means having to wait a year before getting to see a doctor. No, it's not a "perfect" system, but what is?

Have you ever had Medicare and tried to get an appointment? Healthcare providers are not required to accept it, and most of us do not because of the shitty rates of reimbursement, the cost of collecting it, and the fact that sometimes you are simply not paid. Many people get NO healthcare because of this.

I was on Medicare for five years and I had no problems getting an appointment. My copays were also low, as well. I was also in psychological therapy for several years (when I was near suicidal) and Medicare paid for it. I think this might be a thing only in your state, because it's illegal where I'm from to deny someone due to being on Medicare. Also, the doctors don't care either way; they got paid the same regardless of what insurance the patient was on. So I'm clueless as to what you're referring to, here.

My black sheep uncle csughr COVID and ended up on a ventilator. He went into a coma and was hospitalized for three months.

He didn't have insurance and still got treatment. People don't know what they are talking about.

You are right in that CA uses companies called "fiscal intermediaries" to manage payments and that is a large part of the problem
