So the Biden administration just released Viktor Bout a man who is know as the merchant of death or the lord of war, This is a guy who would sell arms to both sides of a conflict most well known is he would sell guns and misses to al-Qaeda during the Iraq war. For a lesbian black pot smoking NBA player who went to Russia broke there laws and ended up with a relatively light sentence given she’s a foreign national smuggling drugs into Russia (be it for personal use). This coming from a guy who support marijuana legalization.

so I don’t want to hear a word any more about the gun debate, or how your average law abiding Americans citizens shouldn’t be allowed to own an AR-15 or an AK-47 which has been bought from a licensed gun dealer in the United States who has gone through a rigorous background check in order to purchase there fired arms. What the absolute bullshit are you talking about? Putting aside all the childish nicknames (how old are you to stand up and say "merchant of death" with a straight face anyways?), this is a case of diplomacy. The role of USA as a nation is (amongst other things) to protect American citizens abroad. This means that when an American citizen gets into trouble, be it natural or man made, then the government will move heaven and earth to recover them safely.

This is nothing new nor is it something only limited to USA. Its not even limited to people who are "willing" to be helped. For example, USA will do their best to try find and establish contact with American citizens in foreign warzones even if said people intentionally went there and put themselves in danger so that that USA can attempt to extract them, even if they need to use the military to do so.

It wasent even that long ago with some influencer or whatever traveled to a warzone or whatever to get sensationalist content and had the USA working overtime to try get him back. As I said, this is normal.

The idea that USA would jump on the opportunity to exchange literally ANY prisoner for a US citizen held by a hostile power even if the prisoner was dangerous and the US citizen was an idiot is normal. Its what countries do. They do not sit there and weigh out the price of their own citizens lives. A citizen will always be more worth than a foreigner.

I can't believe I am having to be more of an American patriot in this moment than you are.

Great question next time you see a similar post from an obvious right winger! I could not find anything suggesting Drumpf’s people ignored Whelan’s appeals, but i he’s been imprisoned long enough for it to have been an issue on Drumpf’s plate! If you find something share it!

So there was public attempts to persuade Trump to look into this situation, not to mention probably many more private attempts and prods by Trumps staffers as part of his presidential briefings and security briefings.

This is also Bidens 2nd prisoner exchange with Russia where as I am not aware of a single one during Trump. Notably, the first prisoner exchange for Biden was another Marine and even Whelans family is confirming that Biden is working harder than Trump did.

Notably however is that Paul Whelan is imprisoned for espionage which is probably why Russia is so against releasing him unless USA also captures some form of agent of their own. But I digress, between Biden and Trump, at least Biden has shown an interest of working towards releasing prisoners in Russia where as Trump did not show any signs of this.

To finish this off, lets talk about Trump making it HARDER to release Paul Whelan. More specifically, trying to use him as a political tool to attack Biden like he just did. What do you think happens when you make the argument that Biden should have released Paul Whalen rather than Griner because Paul Whalen is obviously more valuable?

It makes Russia think that Paul Whalen is even more valuable than before and it means that USA has to given them even more concessions before they will agree to release him. Trump just single handedly extended Paul Whalens prison stay with this pointless stunt.

Personally, I have my doubts but mainly because it would involve Trump doing his job as president instead of pressing the pepsi button repeatedly in his office or golfing. So yeah, if I had to choose between laziness and unwillingness to make the trade for why Trump did not do something then I will default to laziness.

If you think Trump or any other leader wouldn't release a merchant who sold guns during the war you haven't learn much of politics while you been alive. These deals are things that happen 24/7 some of them are never officially mentioned. It's part of society of foreign affairs and war.
Deals are made and certain values have to be traded back or realised due to demands just simples.

At that point it's not the president decision at that point it's in the hand of many forces. If you became president tomorrow you would understand how these things go and it's not as simple as we can just keep him locked up. Or we can just send a nuke across the boarders when we want or we can just missile attack Russia.

Law abiding US citizens do not own military grade weapons because there are laws in place that prevent that. The comparison is actually perfect given your obvious ignorance.
