Rolf Harris, TV star of the 80s has died. He won't be remembered as a celebrity of the era but rather as a sick pervert. The problem is that era seemed to throw up quite a few high-profile offenders. Rolf Harris, Gary Glitter, Jimmy Savile etc, plus the ones who were never brought to justice.
Now I have a theory, that era is noted for being the very opposite of WOKE. People back then had attitudes many would find offensive today. It was the sexist attitudes that embodied those less enlightened years that allowed these perverts to flourish

Why did the 70s-80s produce so many sex offenders?
Probably the advent of DNA testing as well as intercommunication between police agencies. At least that's the case for the US. You could commit a crime in say Georgia, rape a woman or what not in the 60's or 70's, but if you took a bus to Louisiana and did so again under a different name, there would be no linkage, as well as no summons or subpoena to even be charged with a crime.
You're talking about a time when telephones became more widespread, transistors for smaller radios as well, again, DNA testing for more solid evidence, whether that's a rape kit or a child. I don't think it's anything to do with more sex offenders being produced, but a backlog of more than a decade of crimes being caught up on.
Probably the biggest problem in the early 80's was juggling who would get to prosecute who first. I find it difficult to believe that there would be less rapists, and not more when there are less consequences to just grabbing a woman who is attractive if you have no plans of being part of the community.
Rather it would be when even famous people get convicted for driving out of town to rape that many would fear that the consequences are ones you can't run from as easily any more.
Probably because people back then "Didn't talk about things outside their homes" and came from a lot of family problems. Me as someone coming from foster care, I can say though that it is a myth that people have been sexually abused grow up to be sex offenders. Sex offenders are always looking for an excuse, and that is the easiest one, especially with pedophiles, which I see a lot of people on here that are confused as to what a pedophile is. To clear that up, a pedophile is not someone who has sex with a minor. It's someone who has sex with a child, a child child.
Some people are so fucked up from being raised a certain away, especially people coming from religious families, that they later turn out to be sex offenders. At one time this was a huge problem with priests. It still is in some areas.
There were people in foster care with me that came from homes where they were sexually abused and with some of them, their families were from strict religions. I'm not sure what the statistics are on that though. I know there's a lot of different factors when it comes to sexual abuse.
Sex offenders have never been thought of positively. It's not just the era. There have always been such people, and if you keep it quiet, and have minions to cover your tracks, often such a person can get away with it.
Sure attitudes have altered, and more people are being skewered and caught because those who've been damaged by this behavior are no longer ashamed of having been victimized. THAT is the giant change. VICTIMS are coming out against their victimizers. When there is a laundry list of people who were assaulted, and the evidence piles up, then these offenders get caught.
I think maybe one reason is that the 70s and 80s is when Hollywood began to show revealing pictures of celebrities so men wanted sex with people they were not married to but back then it was still not socially acceptable to have sexual relationships to people you are not married to and having kids with. So these guys wanted casual sex and could not get it and chose to rape and assault women to get the sex they wanted. Now if a guy wants casual sex - he can find a girl without being ridiculed or hire a prostitute, so the risk of rape to innocent woman is lower.
By sex offenders, do you mean pedophiles? I'm not sure if the 70s and 80 produced more of those. I think it has gone on for a long time. Men of means could always purchase whatever satisfied their lecherous tastes.

Of course sexual slavery has always been a big thing. And I'm talking about sex slaves, including minors of all races.
It's obvious that Jimmy Savile was a serial child rapist and torturer. The new King of England probably was (and maybe still is), too. After all, he and Jimmy were best buds.
Aristocrats, in particular, can get away with almost anything. But so can others if they are wealthy and powerful enough.
I think Epstein was only the tip of one single iceberg. There are many like him. And the horrors that they and their patrons perpetrate are inconceivable. This goes on all around the world. Almost half a million children a year disappear in the U. S. alone. How many nameless, faceless children around the world disappear every year?
Maybe this issue has gotten more publicity over the years, but I don't think much is being done about it because powerful people are involved and governments cover it up because they are involved.
Maybe it became became bigger business and more widespread with the advent of private airplanes and cargo container ships. And there are more people with enough money to own private air strips and helicopter pads, giant tracts of land, remote, sprawling mansions, massive tunnel networks and underground facilities
🤔 Hmmm... as a 80's kid I'll say you might be onto something. Thank gawd the adults around me protected me from that nonce shit. There was one guy offering me work and I was confused about why my Great Grand parents wouldn't let me work for him... then a couple of months later it was in the news that he molested a bunch of boys and it all made sense.
When the 90's hit everything felt a bit more violent. I know I was walking around with a knife like I was a low-level gangster. I left America as soon as the 2000's hit, when I came back here everyone seems gay to me.
I have a theory that nowadays western society rewards women for whatever claims, whether they're true or not, or are exaggerated or perceived via a retarded modern female lens, effectively putting a guy into a position where he is forced to hold the burden of proof (e. g. having to somehow prove he didn't do something a few decades ago), which is absurd. After decades, when any evidence and half of those involved are dead or senile, file a charge and put a guy in court, hoping to get some clout and profit out of it, via TV invitations, interviews, perhaps book sales, or just outright money to get off the guy's back 🤷♂️
If they'd actually cared, they wouldn't file complaints decades later.

I mean, back then in regards to that even tho it was sexist, racist, etc… you at least knew who people were and where they stood. So you can pop them in the mouth or avoid them. Now in this woke culture, people identifying as foxes trees, trash cans, a he that’s a she, a she that’s a they/them/he, a was/were/hound/ours, etc…. You don’t know who some mentally ill he/she tree they will be that day. So sex offenders can straight up walk right into your women’s bathrooms and sexually assault, harass, otherwise do whatever they want and not suffer any consequences. I’m not saying the “good ole days” was a better time. But at least we didn’t have issues “en masse” of who people were. Identity crisis or anything. For that is the times I miss. Based on that alone, I would argue this day and age has more sex offenders than before.
The 1970s and 80s were a different time. Adult theaters, strip clubs and noncommittal sex were everywhere. It was normal back then. That's what makes life difficult today. Is it right to criticize someone for doing what was normal in the past when it would not be acceptable today?
Social norms was certainly part of it. I had a boss who had business meetings at strip clubs (mandatory regardless of how you felt about it. One particular female assistant was particularly uncomfortable). Can you imagine tgat today?
There was also less video documentation, the idea that someone could quickly and easily document a conversation was unheard of back then. So people could be worse than today.
Okay, you've named three. Can you name any others? Do you know about Epstein and his island? Prince Andrew, President Clinton? I would be willing to guess there are actually more these days, if only because sexual deviance and perversion has become far more acceptable. Hell, it's even encouraged, and when someone has the courage and convictions to oppose it, they're instantly labelled a "bigot" and lose their job and have their life ruined by vindictive a-holes online.

Wow, Rolf harris. That is a name from the distant past. When i was in elementary school we had a spring concert and this was one of the songs my class sang. I had no idea he was a perv.

Having lived through those decades. Women were taught not to question their husbands. Children were taught to respect their elders. So, most times nothing got reported and if it did. Pedophiles and child molesters have been around for a long, long time. I often do work for one of the USA's leading law firms that pursues current predators civilly. Because of this I think there are just as many, if not more, now. Several Roman Catholic Archdioceses, Larry Nassar, a large number of California school districts, etc. Maybe most of these perverts are just not as well-known as the famous people of the past
I dont think it did I think out ability to find out what happend or attitudes towards said crimes changed so people became more comftble coming forward
