Trending & News It's built into the definition that it's meant to replace (or supplement) intelligence. To some degree it started happening decades ago. But it also replaces some types of physical jobs through automation.
On the other hand, people have talked about technologies replacing humans for centuries, and it hasn't happened yet. Either the nature of the job changes, it becomes more efficient, or different types of jobs are created. Bottom line is that the total number of jobs keeps increasing.
When I started working in engineering in the late 70s, all the drafting was done by hand (Which is something I miss because I always liked doing it.) By the early 90s it was almost entirely done on computers. CAD systems are a form of AI, especially certain types of CAD systems.
AutoCAD was the first highly commercialized CAD systems. It had built-in LISP which is commonly used for AI. When personal computers were becoming widespread in the early-mid 90s, AutoCAD was a major driver of both computer and video card technology. AutoCAD required massive processing power. All but the low end video cards advertised AutoCAD support right on the box. Now the market is heavily driven by games in much the same way it was driven by AutoCAD in the 90s.
I've seen the before and after. To be honest, I have never bought into the idea that computers were significantly better or faster than the old way. In some fields they are significantly faster. For example genome sequencing. But for the average person, I don't think they are all that much faster or better. I don't think there have been many, if any, jobs replaced with them. It probably created more jobs, not less.
I also worked in the building trades and as a fairly serious amateur mechanic. Since the days when power tools became common, tech has made virtually no dent at all in the building trades. It's had very little affect on mechanics either, other than diagnostics. Overall, it's made working on cars much more difficult.
Tech has made a huge difference in low-skilled repetitious type of trades. Robotics in the manufacturing industry being a prime example. But in skilled labor, it just isn't there yet. It may be a very very long time before it is.
In order to pursue intellectual professions, it is necessary to have a religion or philosophical view and to adopt a certain political ideology. I think artificial intelligence is suitable for physical professions.

You’d think it would replace me as a writer, but I’m busier than I ever have been. I work with two companies that support me using AI as an assistant tool. Productivity has skyrocketed since January and so has my income. AI writers /prompt engineers are in demand right now in media and publishing.
It will be a long time before AI can replace the trades, I have yet to see any attempts at automating plumbers, electricians, roofers, HVAC, miners, or farmers.
Among the first people to get hit really hard will be Hollywood and porn/OF, neither of whom I have much sympathy for. Generative AI will get to the point where anyone can give it a prompt or pitch and it will generate a full-length movie or porno without the need for writers, actors, directors, grips, PAs, cameramen, etc.
OnlyFans will evaporate as the AI can do anything the thots can do but better and for free or really cheap, including engaging the simps, and it can work 24/7 and won't age or get fat (unless that's what the customer wants). The OF thots will either have to get real jobs or do their whoring in person and start sucking dick.
Hollywood will be toast, the actors can get all sorts of laws or agreements against their likenesses being used by the AI but it won't matter as they would just locate the servers in other countries that won't enforce it, much as tor**** sites do now. Most of the writing that has come out of Hollywood lately has been so bad that ChatGPT could easily do better in a few years.
Honestly both groups deserve it.
This is impacting my industry but the way I look at it you can either adjust to it and use to your advantage or you can let it destroy you.
However nothing will ever truly replace human authenticity. Although AI is very scary many ways it isn’t self aware (thankfully) and able to create truly original ideas.
However one thing I am very concerned about is the invisible hand setting the parameters. There have already been multiple examples of ChatGPT showing clear political bias which is horrifying on a true Orwellian level.
Customer service jobs. Basically anyone that reads a script over the phone or through a chat support applications, takes down information which is put into a computer are very easily replaced. This would include telemarketers, receptionists, computer support specialists, advertising sales people, retails salespeople, benefits managers, stock brokers, etc. After that I'd say couriers since they have limited costumer interface. So all your USPS, UPS, FEDEX, DHL, etc. It's easy to get a robot to carry a box 20 feet to a door step, place it down and return to the vehicle to continue charging while a email/text message is sent to the customer to confirm delivery. After that, it would be food service workers. You can have robotic arms produce and package food orders very easily and have AI voice chat take orders at drive through windows. Moving up the food chain data entry, bookkeeping, etc.
Neither. It can make both jobs easier and can do some things better than others. I use an AI program to do medical coding and AI is used in certain medical situations because it is better than humans. It can notice slight changes in speech and determine a stroke is imminent before a doctor, which saves lives.
Humans cannot surpass the strength of robots or get more precision, but AI is limited by what it sees. If you need a tree removed, AI can't do things that are unique to your tree unless it has expierenced it before.
Neither.
AI can't even handle incoming calls for call centers. My words aren't being recognized. Which makes their service a less desirable one. There are many things a AI can't solve and I believe it won't be anytime soon.
But yeah, let the sheep run scared hearing these 2 letters and being with their iphones.
I actually think that, for the most part...
AI will become a tool that would assist and enhance productivity, rather than completely replace humans
Intellectual. Content creators will suffer at most, truck drivers probably too. Trade jobs remain unaffected
Virtually every job is going to be replaced by AI & Automation
like in film the creator. ai build their own robots.
@strateguy632 think of any job and I guarantee automation and AI can replace it.
Its like how all those office jobs on the 00s just disappeared
eventually probably everyone. look at the technological exponential growth in the past 200 years. what if the exponential growth keeps at the same pace? first world countries will need a base level income because there just won't be any jobs.

that or they just kill us off.
I would say intellectual jobs. We're already seeing that with artistic jobs. It's sad and scary.
Which one does "girlfriend" fall under?
Why would you need AI for physical jobs? We already have robots to do that stuff and they don't even have to be smart. AI will soon not need us at all. Wake up and smell the coffee people.
None, as AI will never have the intuitive spark that people have, at best they will become 'expert systems'.
Jobs like attorneys Nd accountants will be done by machines. Also certain medical jobs as well.
You didn’t have the option of both. So I’m going to say both.
It will replace both eventually
True, and I can hardly wait.
Well we saw what IT did to offices.
AI isn't welding yet
Artists.
like now it generates pictures of art.
Both
Probably booth.
