Guyana is a small (less than 4% the population of Venezuela) English speaking country on the eastern border of Venezuela who recently struck it rich with large oil finds.
As compromise as Venezuela is, if Guyana can't secure help in the form of actual Troops from other countries I don't think they stand much of a chance of defending their lands. So on paper it makes sense that this is an easy way for Maduro to grab a bunch of money and land. His population out numbers Guyana 37 to 1.
Also in favor of invasion is the higher oil prices of the last 3 years and even an agreement by the Biden administration and Europe to lift many sanctions on Venezuela.
Unlike Ukraine, or Israel this conflict will affect us, both countries are major current and future sources of energy for the Americans and stability in our own backyard.
I think Venezuela intends to go thou with an invasion, and the only thing that would stop them is a firm commitment by other players like the USA and Brazil to fight for Guyana.

Time to send hundreds ATGMs, MANPADs and Anti tank mines to Guyana
Russia only out numbers Ukraine 3 to 1. Venezuela outnumbers Guyana more like 37 to 1.
The Jungle being fought over is also largely undeveloped, Tanks would be limited to the few roads and easy targets without even theses advanced weapons. So on the ground this is mostly an infantry conflict. Otherwise its air and naval either way Guyana doesn't stand much of a chance without external troops.
Guyana is pressing for forign intervention first because that is their only real option.
Sounds like a good reason to topple the Maduro dictatorship if he does go through with it
The only reason Maduro is doing this is because he fucked over his country so royally that he needs to take over another to stabilize it again and then ruin it once more.
