He's the first person in England to be convicted under the new law and I say "Ha ha serves him right" but do you think it's fair?

This was a main story on the national news here so it's clear they used the fellow, as they often do, 'to send a message'. It's a shame that the BBC as usual is just an instrument of government propaganda and messaging. I did find it a bit shocking for the reasons @MrOracle has outlined.
What they didn't tell us on the 6 o'clock news is that there appears to be more context to this. It seems this guy has been convicted or involved in sex crimes previously, which might more explain the hefty sentence. This is extremely dodgy ground though. Not least because half of the internet is people seemingly sending pics of their nether regions. Anyone could get caught up in this (not least of all poppy) and find themselves facing a hefty jail sentence. And while of course, this is extremely indecent and inappropriate behaviour, there is also a block feature on a phone... You don't have to be deathly offended by everything. You yourself are also making that choice.
I mean, I've been on omegle before and women have flashed me. No, I don't want them to spend 6 years in prison. I mean, it's disgusting, but I really don't give a fuck. And nor do I want people to ruin their lives over stupid shit.
England is a joke... From the nature of the action, it would seem that's you'd classify something like that as unsolicited pornographic spam. If you get a text message or email you are under no obligation to open it. If you choose to open it, that's on you. If there are misleading titles on the message and the image file then I'd say the spammer is somewhat accountable for sending unsolicited lewd materials to adults, but restraining orders and sexual harm prevention counselling is ridiculous. I could see someone being fined for that on a first offense with some sort of probation/community service, with jail time for repeated offenses in a country with a logical and fair justice system. It's not like the dude pulled his junk out on the bus and put it on someone's face. He uploaded porn to the internet and sent someone a link to it and they choose through their own free will to click on the link.
It’s a bit of a harsh punishment considering so many people have sent unsolicited dick pics. I’ve gotten a few on Gag. But serves him right too.
This law may not be favourable for a lot of people. He got a harsh punishment for sending a dick pic. Imagine someone else getting a similar punishment for sending side boob.
"I'm surprised it stood up in court" - But did it stand up in court? We know that it probably stood up when he took the photo.
What a clown, what a doufus! I'm tempted to say that it serves him right, and he'll probably never do that again, but I have to admit his punishment was a tad excessive.

I think a lot of people don't realize that if this guy can get this kind of sentence for doing this, then THEY can get similarly punished for doing something equally as insignificant. When you try to legislate against things that you find offensive, it won't be long before someone decides that what YOU do is offensive to them, and off to prison you go.
This is absolutely going to come back to haunt a lot of people in the UK - including many of the people who asked for this. And, let's be honest - it's largely women who vote for this "offending me should be illegal" BS.
And later that night, she looked at porn and diddled herself. I don't think the punishment fits the crime, either way around. Whether it's a man or woman sending unsolicited pictures. You just call "ick" for what it is and block the person. Are people going to start suing TV networks or production companies for surprise nudity in a TV show after hours? Children can even see that given that they're awake and turn on the TV. Sounds like nonsense, really.
To add some bits behind this, for those who are saying it’s wrong.
he sent them to a 15 yr old girl.
now for parents out there, what should happen to guys that send your daughters photos of their erect penis?

still no contact injury. she saw it in scool sex ed.
@strateguy632 oh fuck off
@strateguy632 sorry I forgot you are the guy that Flashes young teens and says ‘still no contact injury, she saw it in school sex Ed’
Go you well done for that.
@RebelinSteel I didn't know she was 15. Having been a minor and getting dick pics myself, it is horrible :(
I knew a guy in London who got one year in prison for killing his wife... during sex that got out of hand. A longer term for just sending a dick pic seems excessive... and inconsistent, but maybe that's how the British system of justice works.
Well , you kina left out that it was unsolicited to an underage girl ( 15 ) and that he was already on the sex offenders register , but it still appears a pretty harsh sentence for sending a picture , but I guess they want the message sent , particularly if unsolicited.
I'm very much against sending unsolicited dick pics, but 5 and a half years seems a bit excessive. I'm guessing since its the first prosecution under this law, they're making an example out of him- displaying him on the stocks in the village square to scare off other would be offenders. Should he be punished, absolutely, to this extent, nah.
The mugshot should just be the dick pic.
I think this is insane. Crazy punishment. Young men are already checking out of feminism, if society want that to gather pace, please keep disproportionately punishing men and never ever criticizing women. Bravo, clowns.
the UK is completely fucked right now. like you better uninstall all social media and chat ap. because even saying one wrong thing online can land you in prison. not a country i wanna live in.
whether it was ok or not in this particular case is impossible to say without any of the context around it.
1984***
oh also they will introduce china style geo website blocks soon.
@Levin oh we definitely have but that's not even the cherry on top of the turd cake. the ukrainian refugees are given german fucking welfare money from our unemployment fund... like this is money paid by german citizens for german citizens. they are litterally thorwing away our money.
they are always on and on about how germany is "the greatest economy in Europe"... well that's true when it comes to gdp, we're number 1 in Europe. but when it comes to buying power, we're 13th... try to make that make any sense.
like i wish the german government would show us one country that will welcome us the way we're currently welcoming refuges. like any other country is like "you can come here and stay but you better work for your money". we're like "fuck it. everyone get in! free money for everyone who makes it here".
I think all of it is extreme. It's just a picture, and it happens so frequentlly, they would have to go after everyone. She over reacted. So many women get dick pics and don't take anyone to court. It's not like he touched or raped her.
Meanwhile, Muslims continue to rape your children and get welfare from the government.
Well, let me tell you, that punishment stinks worse than a garbage disposal full of spoiled fish and rotten eggs! Sending a dick pic is definitely gross, but 66 weeks in prison is like getting hit with a double dose of skunk spray and cow manure on a hot summer day. That's just way too harsh, it reeks of injustice! 🤢🤮 #TooMuchPunishment
I dont send dick pics because my friend sent one to a guy acting like a girl... the guy already knew the guys email or something and then he was able to find all of the guys contacts and email the picture to his mom, dad, etc. It had his face in it too.
oh come on... who told her to check the pic? Does she open phishing emails? sends strangers her CC number?
Well, given his previous conviction of sexual activity with a child under 16 and already was registered a sex offender, I believe the sentencing wasn't harsh enough!
i break the law but you have to know your limits. back down if it's a close call or you get caught
i dont have a dick but what if i secretly grow one in my sleep and then take photos and post them on a free OF? it's questions like this that keep me up at night.
This seems very excessive, you'd expect a fine and probation at most to tell him off. But 2 months of prison time for sending a picture is really excessive.
and a guy raped got "2 years suspended sentence" so no jail but this won't suspend jail? tyranny.
Well, considering that a young mother was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for verbally haranguing a foreign woman, nothing that happens over there surprises me.
Sounds like there's probably more to this story.
He does have previous convictions for other sex offences. But he is the first in England to be imprisoned over a dick pic
The girl was 15. He sent a sexual photo to a minor. It’s amazing how many in the post are saying that’s okay to do. He has previous offences, it’s 66 weeks, which is rarely fully served.
@AmyHew1tt yeah it’s fun how they defend someone sending sexual images to a minor. One even justified in on my comment. Obviously if these guys are parents they don’t mind it happing to their kids.
Whoa? Maybe there is more story behind this? I suspect he has done something else that put him under the conviction. If it is only over the dick picture, I feel like it is too much lol.
It was originally only supposed to be a week, then they saw how little it was.
So judge was like hell naw, he needs an extreme punishment for forcing someone to see something so tiny.
Personally in my opinion not long enough... Especially considering he already has a lengthy criminal record,
It's electronic indecent exposure. About time the law started to catch up with it. If he'd flashed her in a park wearing a trench coat nobody would have an issue with the case or the sentence.
prison? even rape gets "suspended" no jail how can this be worse. doesn't serve him right. nobody got injured physical pain. b
I guess for a rape on a minor he would get less.
Uh congrats England for just decimating speech. This is sure to set an ungodly awful precedent for things even less significant than that.
It seems strange to me that he was only convicted for this, there must surely be more to it;
Like the pun but consider what one sees on the streets. Tits and ass on display. Poor woman,"I need a psychologist, I saw a dick".
Seems excessive. But don't do the crime if ya can't do the time.
Idiot but this is extreme. If he was a repeat offender then that would be a different story
I didn't know she was 15. This is a deserved punishment
Maybe that would stop the unsolicited nude pictures
Seems a little excessive but still not right. I would never send anything without being asked for it or 100% certain it was not a problem
But wait, I thought the prisons were already full?
Yeah, dick pics are for fools who want to be blackmailed
Well we can add jailed to that and hopefully stamp out the practice once and for all
um, no. people get less or no time for violent crime.
Unless he was stalking her, than that's absurd and totally unfair.
That will set a precedent. Damn.
But maybe not a bad one.
Yes and no. I think that is extreme. I wonder if there were unique extra details in this case. Devils in the details.
Maybe he tattooed her name on the offending appendage.
See poppy's reply to another answer - the guy already had previous related convictions.
There is always more to the story, eh?
Of course. And not that difficult to research for us people outside of the "Generation Facebook".
This is true.
I think it's fair. Those guys need to stop making the rest of us look bad.
I would understand prison time if the recipient was underage but this is overkill.
I think a fine would be good enough.
i airdropped so many dick pics
If it was unsolicited
Good, fuck em
damn
