They look white by skin tone but they are the closest to Asians than any other Euro ethnicity and it shows in their facial features.
Obviously race is a bit more than skin colour, and people who say it is just skin colour are likely racist themselves and can’t appreciate most other ethnicities beauty. Except the odd non white that has European facial features. Notice how it’s mostly white people that say it’s just skin colour. We should learn to appreciate all ethnicities features. It will help everyone grow.

If race is just skin color, then Caucasians with Mediterranean skin must be a different race than northern Europeans.

There are ethnic differences other than skin color, though. One prominent difference is in the shape of Asian eyes. Scientific explanations for epicanthic folds include either random variation and selection (presumably sexual selection), or possible adaption to desert environment and/or high levels of ultraviolet light found in high-altitude environments, such as the Himalayas. Facial features of other ethnic populations are probably the result of similar factors: either aesthetic preferences or environmental advantage. And it's not only facial features.
And ethnicities mix to create variations. Take the Viking settlements in Ireland, the Mongol invasions of eastern Europe, the Moorish occupation of the Iberian Peninsula, or the colonization of the Americas by Spanish and Portuguese. In the U. S. and Caribbean, African and Irish slaves mixed with French, English and Native populations. This happened/happens all over the world.
It's not surprising that many Russians have Asian features considering the fact that Russia is the European country that is closest to Asia. In fact Russia stretches across northern Asia.
There are extremely attractive people from all ethnicies and races. People are entitled to their own personal preferences, but racism is ignorant, shallow, and ignoble.

The definition of race varies greatly across cultures. For instance, in India, Northern Indians are considered a separate race while foreigners can hardly tell the difference between us.

You're the first person I've seen bring this up. I always heard Indians fall under the Indo-European or White race, but Dravidians and other south Indians, as well as NE Indians and Andaman and Nicobar islands people certainly aren't White. The same thing goes for Arabs, North Africans and Latinos. And a lot of Uyghurs and Turks are very White. People are finally starting to acknowledge that at least coastal Turks aren't Turkic but Mediterranean people.
I don't know what state/ethnic group you're from, but I've always considered you a "white Indian." I don't know how people can think all Indians look the same. Even Akaash Singh said that Punjabis are fare skinned, although I've met some alleged Punjabis who were dark, so I don't know. But in general, the further north you go in India, the lighter the people get. The Aryan race actually originated in India, but you won't hear that from the neo-Nazis. One of my co-workers claimed their Scandinavians who migrated south due to climate change.
In regards to your last comment, I didn't hear about the "3 races" thing until I was in college. As much as I like to trust science, I always took issue with this one, because there are definitely more than 3 races. But the theory that there is only ONE race is even dumber.
But yeah, I've heard of Indians who look like YOU, who people didn't believe they're Indian, and said even other Indians treated them poorly.

There are some ethnicities in Russia as well as, interestingly, the Finns, that do have high admixtures of Asiatic DNA, but 100% ethnic Russians are firmly Indo-European and have almost no Asiatic influence in their DNA.
There are around a hundred different local ethnicities, if I remember correctly. And mainland Moscow elite is bent on abusing and exploiting each and every one of them.
@DryGermanGuy That’s what most of the Western press say, but anyone following this war closely observes the Chechens, who have one of the very few non-Russian majority regions in Russia, are some of the most motivated of Russian soldiers on the front.
The reality is that Western-backed oligarchs and Western corporate interests abused the vast majority of the Russian population with their “shock therapy” in the 1990s. Whatever happens in Russia going forward, any “exploitation” people face will pale in comparison with that.
If most of the Western press (ignore tabloids) agrees on something that should be a pretty good indicator of what's actually going on, right? And the pictures and policies don't lie - Putin's covert recruitment drives have been in the poorer provinces and not the Moscow/St. Petersburg metropolitan areas. With the result that more and more inmates in Ukrainian prisoner camps are actually from these ethnic minorities! And with regard to Chechnya, Putin has given the whole province as a dictatorship inside a dictatorship to the Kadyrov clan to have them create an ever-loyal personal guard in case regular military units or Z-storm prison battalions have to be "straightened out". Which happens on a regular basis, I have been told.

This is the root of our disagreement. I believe the Western media are sham actors that serve the globalist elites and credulously repeat what the intelligence services want us to hear. There have been way too many instances of them pushing narratives that are later disproven, often by their own admission (in back pages, of course). So when it comes to Ukraine I tend to disregard media hype and focus on analysis of geolocated video footage.
