No, I don't think most shoplifters do it out of desperation they do it because they lack morals.

Poverty doesn't cause crime, crime is the cause of poverty. If people don't behave in a civilised fashion then employers don't invest in the area or they'll be reluctant to employ people from there.

I said yes BUT the level of shoplifting that has occurred in the past t years is unprecedented which was caused by gangs and a complete lack of enforcement of the law. I laugh when I see stores in San Fransisco shutter… good. But the bulk of the people who vote for lax enforcement are dependent on those stores. And the rest, are just stupid people who deserve their situation. Some though, who need prescriptions and a close store will suffer these fools but in the end they also voted for this crap.
