tough call. in prior Govt do you recall they got into it with Iran and Hamas and were bombing the crap out of... that's after shipping was being sunk. They said "we give up".

I was an Army officer for 15 years. We aren't all bloodthirsty war mongers who view war as some path to glory. In fact we tried to weed those personalities out. By whatever means possible. They generally end up being a burden and a threat to the people around them.

Anyway, you can look at yourself as a deterrent. You're not looking for a fight. But you exist. You're there. You're trained and equipped. And you will show up on someone's doorstep if needed. You're a pawn in diplomacy as much as a weapon. Sadly the diplomats often fail miserably. Or the policy is designed to achieve economic goals, not existential or ideological reasons.

Sorry sweetcheeks, trench warfare went out out of style after WWI. Today it's mechanized infantry in a combined arms team. Or my niche, asymmetric warfare and small unit incursions to hit and run in the shadows. And I worked for the govamint. I walked away. 5 years short of retirement.
