Why are so many men not as manly anymore?

In the past men were tougher and more protective. Now in these days men cry a lot, don't work, and are always waiting to be protected.

I mean it is OK for a man to cry here and there; we are all human, right? But really? Crying because of a movie or because you hit yourself is not right.

It seems that now at days women are expected to be the tough ones who work full days at work, and then take care of kids and husband, at night. Society's expectations of a women do not seem to have changed, in order to make things better for everyone; women are still expected to be the house keepers. Women are now being asked to make the first move in courting. We are now the protectors in a relationship. And now we are expected to be the bread winners too. Females now seem to have to under take both the male and female gender roles. How fair is that!?

I don't think this is all that accurate. No one as far as I've experienced is expecting women to be the bread winners. Success is nice, so it's fine if they are, but the guy can be the bread winner too. I feel like this is simply a result of the playing field evening up more. Society is accepting of feminine men and masculine women, and that's just how it is. Gender roles are becoming less and less important. You have manly men, sensitive men, masculine women, feminine women, it's a whole swarm of different kinds of people.

Relationships cannot be protected by one person, it's a team effort. Guys flirt with girls and girls flirt with guys everywhere. It's not like one is expected to make the first move as opposed to the other. Some people prefer to make the first move, some people wait for the other person. It's all in the personality. Trying to create gender roles in this day and age doesn't really help you. If what you want is a manly man, there's plenty out there, just don't expect every man to be manly. For every manly man, there's a sensitive one, a shy one, a funny one, a sarcastic one, a rude one, an obnoxious one, and well, an entire world of different ones. Same goes with women.

So I don't know where you're getting all these ideas that so much is expected of women. For all I know there could be plenty of people who think that way. However, for me, the only thing I expect from women, or anyone for that matter, is to be themselves. You don't have to be what you're not, so don't worry about the expectations. The only person whose expectations matter is you.

This is very easy to answer. Two reasons. Liberalism and feminism. Both have over the last four decades been proclaiming loudly, that male stereotype traits are bad. Both have been brainwashing young boys to be just like girls. Liberalism has always be anti-male, anti-west, and anti-white, blaming all of the world's problems on white western men. You couple that with feminism, claiming absolute sameness in the genders, thus women taking on traits that have been seen as traditionally masculine, while still beating down on those very male traits when men show them, you got men afraid to be men, because society on the whole has condemned masculinity. But masculinity is not bad nor evil, only men who do bad or evil things are. Masculinity is an essential component of any society, culture, or nation. There is a very specific reason behind the Yin and Yang symbol, it shows Masculinity and Femininity working in synergy to form a perfect circle, and further, inside each section, there is a little bit of opposite, because inside each male, there is a little femininity, and inside each female, there is a little bit of masculinity. Thus men and women both can have a little of the opposite traits.

Now that you realize the destructive effects on men both liberalism and feminism have had on male masculinity, I sure hope the hell you will fight back against both, and further, make sure all your future sons will fully embrace their masculine natures, preferably in a manner that means taking the lead, being strong, being assertive, being protective, and not more misogynistic jerks.

Society plays a role on how people act, which includes men and women. Gender roles were put in place because of times where it was crucial to have as many offspring as possible. Since we have plenty of scientific advancements to create medicine and treatments that makes the human lifespan last longer, the less important it becomes in terms of procreation due to the longer lifespans that make the birth and death rate highly unstable.

Then it's the abandonment of gender roles to the point of denying that there are gender differences. Whether if this is liked or not, there are scientific facts that give differences in at least some displays of how men and women function. Anatomy and hormones are the main factors;while it has highly evolved, it is becoming highly neglected so that nobody understands as sufficiently of the consequences when given the purpose of family being the nucleus of society itself. We're turning to the government to replace the mother and/or father for children so the lack of family principles is demolishing its concept. We're seeing that in places like China and even America where birthrates are going down in certain communities because of influencing a culture that having kids in your twenties is a primitive and selfish thing.

To answer the question - men aren't manly anymore because there is no reason to when the odds have come against them when raising marriages and families. Women abandon it because it is a sign of patriarch oppression taking place if, God forbid, she becomes a wife and then a mother.

I agree with you 100%. People are leaving all these comments disagreeing with you, saying you're generalizing too much ect. I understand it can be considered a generalization and that not everyone is that way. But that IS the way it seems. I work at a liquor store and men have flat out laughed and joked how they want a girl who can take care of them (in every aspect) / if I wanted a bf like that it would not take me very long at all to find one. Where as I stay single for LONG periods of time trying to find a good traditional masculine man. No BS. He is there for me, I'm there for him. But, instead most men (ive met) do what they want. Straight up. Whatever they want to do. If they want to leave for days at a time no explanation, no call, no show, nothing. They can and they will. Someone on here said the playing field is evening up. It is not, I have to work harder then a woman would in the 50s for money and for love. I go to therapy because I just hate it all so badly and my therapist tells me well not everyone is that way, and there is good people in the world. You just have to find your corner of them ect. But, if I want a weasel boyfriend I could find him in a snap? ? . . . . . I duno what to think.

One was suppose to be the weaker vessel the woman ,  Not saying women can be just as strong .  But I don't want to see no man crying through titanic and running like a woman if someone breaks in the house ,  It's just ridiculous . preach girl! my boyfriend is a huge baby. the other day a chipmunk got inside the house and he was so scared he was jumping on furniture screaming while I tried to catch it with a towel! also I've seen so many dudes cry, like more then you would think. and 3 out of my 4 past bfs started out having jobs and cars and subsequently lost them and have either had to have me drive them everywhere or come live with me. its crazy. I don't understand why guys think women have it so easy. when I'm not at school or work I'm taking care of my boyfriend in whatever way he needs. that being said I love my baby and I don't mind taking care of him! I just wish we'd have a little bit of a more traditional relationship but its alright. we have years to get those dynamics going(:

Fu ck todays rules about society. That's the problems there are to many "rules" to follow and they are constanly changing.

There was a generation of men who were brought up to believe that women didn't want "manly men".

Proof, if any more were needed, that women don't know what they want.

They said they wanted nu-man, who was in touch with his emotions, would share, and was not afraid to cry. They got a generation of men like that, and it turns out they weren't attracted to them.

Nu-men still exist, but they are dying out because no girl will breed with them.

And this is why, ladies, just so you know, that men won't share their emotions with you, or their inner thoughts, or tell you how we feel. Because you claim that's what you want, but we know better.

Basically, our enemies could never outdo us with military might and economic prosperity (by us, I mean America, Canada, UK, Australia, Western Europe) so they infiltrated our schools, media, and any institution that influences how we decide to raise our children, in order to stop our boys from becoming MEN.

Society had lowered expectations for both genders drastically. Women can be single and be entrepreneurs, men can act more sensitive and explore the emotions they've suppressed for thousands of years. Old ways of thinking is archaic, and I sincerely doubt anybody really wishes things were back like they used to be. Women do not have to be breadwinners, guess who still pays for most dates? Men. Courtship is also old fashioned, since we both acknowledge our place as equals, we both accept the responsibilities of courtship. Your ways of thinking is not progressive, and is damaging because it dismantles the progress America as a culture has made within the past 60 years.

Society has a lot to do with it. Everyone gets a trophy so there's no need for us to do anything other than participate. Everyone get's an A+ for participating, so why bother doing anything but showing up. If you're bullied, run away and tell on someone rather than face it yourself. You can't tackle a defenseless receiver in the NFL anymore... and on and on.

Maybe you're looking for guys in the wrong places. I know some guys are like that, but definitely not the majority.

I suppose that many men of this generation were raised too softly by their parents. One of the biggest downsides to this type of parenting is that when the men grow up, they will not be prepared for the challenges and scary things that life can throw at them. I guess this means that women have to step up to the plate more often. (Sigh).
