What are your favorite things about your state and what does it lack that makes you travel elsewhere?

If you don’t live in a state, you can name what you like about your city (P. S. You do not have to name your city/state).  My favorite thing about my state is the casinos of course. We have at least 30 scattered throughout the state and would’ve had more had the hurricane not taken away many back in 05. I also like that our state has a good bit of southern hospitality and some decent BBQ/seafood. I enjoy the spacious land that isn’t as expensive, the sports events, and the classic car shows. Plus the state is pretty warm about 9 or 10 out of 12 months a year.  The things that I seek outside of my state include... better job opportunities (mainly in TX/GA/NC), better beaches (usually in FL since ours is very unattractive and oily up close but nice to pass along the highway), theme parks (mainly in GA/TX/FL/AU since we only have small waterparks and seasonal fairs/carnivals), music events (mainly in NV/AL/FL/TX/NY), a better variety of cuisines/shops (mainly in TX/FL/NY), and a sense of adventure (mainly in NY/CO/CAN/NC/ FL/AU). East Coast Province - best things are the beach, beauty of nature, people are awesome to one another and look out for each other here, and relative ease of freedom in life.

What make us travel elsewhere is fun of going to Quebec to drink underage at 18, to get laid, going to Montreal and have fun memories in overpriced hotels we couldn't afford at the time in our young 20's and getting laid in the jaccuzzi in said overpriced hotel - all highlights I think back on - I find trips more about the memories you create while abroad with your significant other, and your family/friends. To create fun memories with the people you love that may contrary to the normal at home. Other fun reasons to travel to see ski hills in Quebec or Casinos in Las Vegas. Its the different environment that ignites memories and has the power to bond people and bring people closer together - but also having that great home base back home to come home to.

I'm a resident of Indiana. What I love about it is how close I am to several larger cities- St. Louis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, and the like. There's always something to do if you're willing to drive 3 hours. Plus the land is cheap, the laws are relaxed, and people tend to forget the state exists, which is fine by me.

What I don't like is the growing drug issues that are troubling the Midwest, the concerning number of Dollar Generals that crop up anytime a DG bag gets caught in a field for longer than a day, and illegal gerbil farms.

Overall, it's not bad. I've lived in other states and even other countries, but I'm happy to be a Hoosier.

I guess you mean US states but Australia has states too so I am going answer that way.

My state/city is the sporting capital. In 1861 1/3 of Melbourne went to the first Melbourne Cup horse race and all the premier sports events are here because we turn out. If another state gets a major event we pinch it off them. There is a whole state gov't department dedicated to this.

We have the best and most hallowed sports stadium. There is nothing like hearing 100,000+ people going 'Oooh' at the same time. We invented Aussie rules football right here in Melbourne for the 'Oooh' factor. I miss not living beside the MCG anymore because I could just open the window to get the crowd atmosphere.

The other thing I like is that not only has Melbourne got good food but regional Victoria has developed gourmet trails. The farmers and cafes are proud of the quality of the food grown and prepared. Then there are all the wineries. There are bus tours so you can sample freely.

Things I go elsewhere for? One word WARMTH i. e Queensland. I like the warm equatorial current and being able to swim comfortably at midnight. Victoria is too bloody cold most of the year and too bloody hot for the rest. There is an average of three days a year that are OK weatherwise in Victoria. .

Massachusetts has very good and pleasant change of seasons where at least I'm my experience, with the exception of 2008 where my father had just been operated on for his neck, just to lose power for almost three weeks and this winter that's been quite mild, are clearly defined. The public transportation has been a godsend with my condition and my job being a few towns over while having to go to Boston at least once a month.

You aren't far from mountains, beautiful beaches, deep forests, lakes and rivers, farms and major cities, like Boston and New York. Vermont and New Hampshire are beautiful states that are great for day trips if you're short on time.

Nightlife has been fun with comedy shows, plays and concerts happening all over the state with a good portion of them right along the train route.

Then there's also a wide array of museums and exhibits to check out.

Great institutes learning are also right near some of the best medical facilities. I feel lucky having caught my cancer being able to go to Dana Farber in just a few hours.

I don't travel much outside of my state, where ironically, after mentioning the awesome venues was to see Judas Priest in Connecticut at Mohegan Sun.

I live in illinois - about 20 minutes outside of Chicago depending on traffic. I'll be honest, I don't love my state but there are a few nice things I can mention.

1. We have great food places and a ton of them! The best places are family owned and not chains.

2. Chicago has a lot of things to do - street fests, lalapalooza, sporting events, museums, navy pier, even just walking around the lake is nice. When I was little, my dad had a boat, so we'd go boating on the lake. The different neighborhoods are great, too - my favorites are China town and little Italy. There's a lot of public transportation so you don't have to worry about parking or the cost of parking.

3. Fall leaves are amazing! We usually drive out to one of the state parks for a weekend of forest preserve exploring. The fall colors make great photo ops. We either head south to starved rock and matthissien state park and see the waterfalls, too or north to white pines.

4. There are a lot of stores in my area. All kinds of them.

5. Great America amusement park is fun to go to and we have one of the largest water parks.

From Wisconsin, and let me just get this out of the way: Yes, I love cheese and beer. Mkay...

What I like about this place is every little weekly "holiday" is used as an excuse to have a drink. Sunday? Bloody Mary's and fried chicken. Monday-wednesday after 6pm? Time for Brandy Old Fashoneds. Friday? Friday Fish Fry. Saturday? Its Da Packer game. Gotta tailgait and cook up some brats. Safe to say that food is pretty important here.

There is an abundance of nature here. We have more lakes than Minnesota, forrests galore, even a few small mountains you can ski down. Thousands of recreation trails for hiking, biking, snomobiles and such. Lots and lots of hunting space and hunting supplies. Everyone has a friend or relative that owns land and a cabin. We also get the Polar Vortex which is pretty neat 😬

Festivals. There's at least 10 or so music festivals across the state like Summerfest, Waterfest, Mad with Powerfest and so on. As well as the Bristol Renaisance Faire which is like the coolest place ever.

For the most part people won't bother you and if they do you'll end up having a conversation as if you've known them for years.

Also, not to flex or anything but, we have Wisconsin Dells. Bigger and Badder water parks than anywhere else.

Unfortunately what we also have is Milwaukee. Lets just say there's a reason we call it "North Chicago" lol.

What we don't have that I'd want more of is wilderness. The kind you get in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and the Dakotas.

Wisconsin's best attributes:

1.) Great state for all season outdoor activities and hobbies (hunting, tubing, fishing, hiking, snow sports like skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling).

2.) Open carry and castle doctrine

3.) Has professional sports teams and good college teams for sports.

Lacks:

1.) Consistent weather. We have the most bipolar weather during winter.

2.) Fair amount of drug dealers and gang issues that came up from Chicago area.

3.) Major cities/most populous counties have high rent and taxes.

I like my home state 🍎 🗽 because of the resiliency and ambitions of the public community. I like the food, and I like the views of the park, the zoos, the aquarium, and it’s tourist sites.

I like my current state ❄️ because of the summers, the wildlife, the friendly community, and the cheap foods and items they have here in bulk.

I’d go back and forth 🔁 between my home and current for those opposite traits, and I’d go to other states to see tourist attractions, like Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon.

I’d go to other states 🗺 for their busy night-life, like Chicago/ Cali. I’d go to other states for their unique wildlife, especially for the mountain lions/ bears/ moose/ and any bobcats.

My state is beautiful but the city I live in sucks but I try to make the best of it , weather blows, the roads blow , the food is blaaah , why I ended up here is beyond me , I am originally from New Jersey close to the oceans and boardwalks , and I miss it there , great food and more outgoing people , when I visit there I feel at home and it’s hard for me to leave but it is what it is. I eventually would like to move from where I am at now but my job is what is really keeping me here , if I can land a good job somewhere else my ass is packing lol

So I live in a state that is literally like the North Pole. We have the peace garden and we also have the badlands as well as lake sakakawea. Other than that we really don’t have anything. Work is a good thing as I make pretty good money as the mines but traveling we don’t have a sports team other than NDSU. So travel that way to watch them as well as the state next door to watch the Twins. I love mountains and I love the beach so I like to travel and experience new things. I’d like to have a guy that likes that as well. Hopefully it can be my crush but I can’t wait forever for him. Fingers crossed he comes along for the journeys I will have!

For me it's the beaches, my home state of North Carolina has many beautiful beaches and mountains too. We pretty much have something for everyone. If you love the beach and the mountains we have the best of both worlds. Plus plenty of places to take the kids like the NC zoo which is the world's largest habitat zoo. We have so many places to visit I can't even name them all. We have plenty of food for the food lovers. I recommend visiting mount airy and going to snappy's lunch for a pork chop sandwich. Nice people too. We have it all. We have hurricanes sometimes on the east and snowstorms in the west but other than that great place to live and visit.

I guess since I live in the Midwest by the Great Mississippi River there is a lot of fishing and boating which is okay. We also have been voted one of the best Minor League Baseball teams and stadium. We have fireworks on the river during July 4th and have many different kinds of festivals. We also know to have one of the best fairs with top. tier concert (Mississippi Valley Fair.) I wish we had more bigger buildings and a little more to do than just bowling, going to the movies or something more fun.

Honey your state is warm all year! Lol! I just want down to the beach yesterday to walk in the sand and since it was such a warm day decided to go barefoot. Half froze my foot off. But most years I would have had to wade through a foot of snow to get to the ocean. I doubt you even keep snow more then a day down there when you get snow.

that being said… that is why I travel. Lol! It just too dang cold up here in New England…

Ohio is known for Cedar Point, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Pro Football Hall of Fame. Looking for some great outdoors Hocking Hills is a great place.

Now personally we do have unique foods like Cincinnati style chili, buckeye candies, Goetta, Paw Paw fruit, Pierogies and so much more lol Ohio is not a destination spot most people here in Cincinnati will drive to Gatlinburg Tn for a weekend for something different.

I live in North Dakota. I like the wide open space, the lack of traffic everywhere, and the community. As a nudist I have to travel for nude recreation- there are no nude beaches, resorts, etc anywhere in the state. I also travel for skiing- we lack the mountains for it- and for wilderness recreation.

My city is surrounded with mountains and a river. It's really great because there's lots of fresh air, and nature is 15 minutes away. I also like the friendliness of the people. No one's in a rush. The thing I don't like is the paychecks, and that there's a lot of littering.
For the lifestyle, I'd like to go to one of the Scandinavian countries. For the culture, to Japan, or china, maybe France or Portugal.

When I was younger I used to go to all of the different festivals in Louisiana. Everything from the oysters festival to the frog festival, from Mardi Gras to the weekend outdoor concerts. Every month there is a festival somewhere and most months two or three.

okay in my country what you call states we call provinces. So in our province we have Gated communities and privated housing communities which is different from regular communites. In such communities. Lifesyles are private and surrounding environment is quite.

I live in Northern Florida and love it. no state income tax, weather is great, homes are reasonably priced, people are great, not heavy traffic where I live, very few cold days, only a light freeze once or twice during the winter, I’m about 2 miles from the beach, but live on a saltwater canal, enclosed swimming pool, boat dock and lift. What more could I ask for? Nothing!
