Have you ever been scuba diving?

I got a beginner’s course certificate and did a couple of shallow dives just outside the bay of the resort we stayed at in St. Lucia.

It was pretty wild just how different life looks just 50 ft below the surface. Some critters will bioluminesce.

It like there was a whole new world just beneath the surface that you wouldn’t know from the surface, fostering all kinds of wildlife.

Some may not be aware, but you can only dive for limited time not necessary because of limited air supply, but because of nitrogen poisoning from breathing pressurized air. It was actually weird breathing it because it feels like your lungs are being forced open and you can’t seem to take a deep enough breath.

But it’s best to relax and stay calm, listen your your dive instructor (s), keep breathing, trust that you’re getting enough air, and have fun.

Yes. I used to dive a lot before I went to college. I used to go with a kid I knew in high school. It really was pretty cool. We used to go after flounder with a hand held spear or catch lobsters with a snare. One time i got a big bluefish with a spear. I used ot find all kinds of cool stuff on the ocean floor. I belonged to a local dive club. We were associated with the police dept and one time on the day after New Years I went diving to find a body. I went with the intention that I would not find it.

Alright, now that’s wild. I assume it was a gun like a harpoon or it was a ling spear that you thrust in a stabbing motion, not one you’d huck.

I had a spear that had a plastic handle and I would just stab with it but it also had a surgical rubber hose that I could shoot it a little s well. It was not as good as a speargun but if you could get close enough you could spear a fish.

No, just snorkeling. But I DO approve of bioluminescence. Have you heard about those monkeys that glow green? Not just under a blacklight, either, like the Japanese rave monkeys, but in general- but only in the donor cells?

Glowing in the dark is like monkeys; it makes things better. And glow in the dark monkeys, well, hey...

Also, I don't know much about nitrogen levels in blood, but I SERIOUSLY doubt that dude's "okay", given the level of finger raisining.

Are you saying the only thing better than monkeys is glow in the dark monkeys?

No, it can still go up from there. For example, glow in the dark monkeys with a side of garlic bread.

Unfortunately, I have never been scuba diving and will never be able to scuba dive as I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2009, so because of that I can't get certified to scuba dive.

I wish that I had done it before that though... I always wanted to but never made the time.

Yes. My brother and I took a class together. Our final exam was on a lake in January, and it was snowing. Diving in cold water is horrible. Just putting on the wet-suit, sucks. I'd much rather just put on a mask and snorkel in warm water..

I definitely wouldn’t do cold water diving.

They make dry-suits that are supposed to help a lot, but they're very expensive, and in the end, you're still in dark, gray water.

I wouldn’t do black water diving either. Don’t see the point as a recreational activity. I do know commercial divers will do it. Those guys are brave.

yes, putting on a wetsuit is a pain anytime but it is worse in the cold.

Ah, that is a bit of a criteria. As it so happens, they would teach you how to do that, too.

No, I drowned as a kid in the sea. Since that day I've forgotten how to swim, so I just avoid pools and the sea now.

I also have dyspraxia so it is harder for me to learn. I'm not doing that again.

I avoid them because it irritates my shoulder to float. But I'm still able to do so if I wish.

You shouldn't have to avoid the sea. You miss out on things like this:

I used to scuba dive often when I lived in the Philippines.

Did a couple dives as part of a class, but had to quit as I had trouble equalizing and my ears were in excruciating pain. I stick to snorkeling now.
