I know usually you can only have 1 personal item and 1 carry on. Well i have a flattish drawstring backpack, a carry on luggage, and a laptop briefcase. Do you think i can get the case AND the backpack through? Or will i likely have to leave one behind? I can't fit the case in the backpack unfortunately. #FeelFreeToList
I managed to get aboard a flight carrying over 25kg of luggage and 4 bags all on my body.
I'd paid for checked-in luggage but ran late and missed the drop-off deadline and couldn't take my main bag with me. So in the middle of the airport, I emptied my big suitcase and put on as many layers of clothing as I could, filled my carry on case to the max (it ended up 4kg over the 7kg weight limit but they never weighed it), loaded a shopping bag full of clothes and called that my personal item/"handbag", then wore my big coat and slung my laptop bag and a fanny pack underneath it behind my back.
I felt like an idiot wearing so many layers onto the plane in the middle of summer but once I was onboard I unloaded everything onto the empty seat next to me and walked off with an enormous armload of luggage😂 the flight crew knew what I did but they were super chill and just had a laugh with me about it.

Sounds like my trip back from vegas years ago. I layered my neck with 3 big beach bags of clothes i just bought and had a carry on suit case. They let me slide then but that was also a different airline

Haha sometimes they just respect the hustle lol. by the way the time I did it was on a domestic flight here in New Zealand and there's no security checks or screenings etc so you can get away with pretty much anything under a big jacket. Anyone could walk on with a loaded gun in their belt they'd have no way of knowing so it makes sneaking a bunch of bags through much easier.

Damn thats scary

+1 yAh man, that's tough. Space can be tight in the overhead compartments, so more than 2 carry-ons is usually pushing it. A few thoughts:
- Try really compressing what you can in the laptop case and backpack to make them as flat as possible. Roll clothes tight, squeeze out air.
- See if the luggage can pass as a personal item if you make it smaller. Remove the wheels maybe.
- Explain your situation nicely to the gate agents - they may be willing to squeeze you on if the flight isn't full.
- Worst case, can you gate check one for free? At least it's there when you land.
- Or maybe check the luggage for a small fee if necessary. Better than losing a bag!
Sounds like you tried cramming it all in though - bummer about the rip. Maybe use some duct tape for next time haha. Safe travels, hope you can figure it out. Let me know if you need any other packing hacks!

+1 y1. Get a backpack or shoulder bag instead of a drawstring bag (you can get a cheap one at Wal-Mart or a thrift store)
2. I saw this once in an airport; A passenger was waiting at the gate with 2 roller suitcases and a shoulder bag. I was wondering how she'd get away with the extra carryon. The gate attendants asked for volunteer passengers to check their rollers at the gate because the flight was full (free and you pick it up at the gate again when you land). She ran up and checked one roller suitcase.
That's a bit too risky for me because I'd probably get caught.

+1 yIt honestly depends whom you get when you check in. Most of the time, it doesn’t matter but that’s more so for international flights. Domestic sometimes give you problems.
05 Reply- +1 y
I checked in online so maybe they won't check?
- +1 y
Think you’ll be okay. Worse case prep to place you laptop in your backpack until you get on the plane.
- +1 y
It wouldn't fit
- +1 y
At least you got throught!
- +1 y
Threw? Is that the right word.

Velcro and make it look like they belong together as one item.

See thats what i was sayin! But i have no velcro. A belt maybe?
+1 yBackpack isn't carry-on. You get a carry-on + the backpack. You can also put things into a large gift bag and say it is a gift airlines can't check gift items so they always get special "carry-on" privilege
01 Reply- +1 y
didn't know they couldnt check gifts
+1 yIt has to fit in a small space you can shove them together up there but they all have to fit up there or go with one of your family's carry ons.

My fam never flies so they dont know anything about it. It says one has to fit in the overhead and one under the seat. I can make the bag and laptop case fit under the seat if they let me through
So not the backpack, but can it fit in the carry on? You can probably just nab it before you sit down if it's in there
11 Reply- +1 y
none can fit inside of the other. I wanted to put the case and backpack under the seat and the carry on in the overhead
With the low cost carrier I use they have got very good at additional charges to make it not so low cost. They really sting hard if you need to buy an additional luggage quota at the airport.

+1 y😂 Poor bag. I think it depends on the airline and what model of plane you're flying. Probably safer to plan on one carry on and one personal item. Coule you fit the laptop in your carryon?
01 Reply- +1 y
Its no laptop in the case. I put all my stuff that wpuldnt fit in the others into the case

+1 yI'm no expert but it seems like they are all small enough to where it shouldn't be a concern.. Maybe..

Thats what i thought
+1 ygo to a Hudson store in the airport and buy something and get one of their big yellow bags. Put your drawstring in that and you should be fine :)
07 Reply- +1 y
I've took a carry on, backpack, Hudson bag, a small blanket, and a bag with food before lol

Yea when i flew back from vegas, they didn't give af. I had 3 big beach bags of stuff and a carry on. But that was before the pandemic. I don't know how strict they are now
- +1 y
depends on the airline. I know Frontier has been picky about their personal item sizes
- +1 y
Its delta
- +1 y
delta is more relaxed in my opinion
- +1 y
Yea surprisingly they didn't care
- +1 y
I didn't think they would :)
My wife's handbag is almost the size of her carry on when we travel. I have laptop and carry on plus our son's bag. Airlines are crazy tight on space.
00 ReplyId be extremely confident that I could get that onboard with no issues or cost.
00 ReplyJust bat your eyelashes at them and I'm sure you can get 10 on as carry on

Lmao
888 opinions shared on Travel topic. Why not leave the case & put the laptop in the bag.
03 Reply- +1 y
Its not a laptop in the case. Its other stuff i couldnt fit in the bag
- +1 y
Yea thankfully
+1 yI don't think they will let you carry all 3 on as a carry-on. It's not a big cubby overhead
02 Reply- +1 y
They say fit one overhead and one under the seat. The backpack and laptop case can fit together under the seat if they’ll let it
- +1 y
My son was only allowed 1 carry on

+1 yBut a smaller laptop case just for traveling. It will be cheaper than the extra baggage fee.
09 Reply- +1 y
It is a small laptop case. It just can't fit in my backpack. Theyre the same length/width
- +1 y
Not in your backpack. In the carry-on suitcase. (And just take it out once you get to your seat on the plane.)
- +1 y
Its no room. Its stuffed with jeans and tees
- +1 y
It's literally a laptop. How fat can it possibly be? It'll fit.
- +1 y
Its not a laptop. Its stuff in the laptop case
- +1 y
Ohhh. Okay.

Oh, f***. What did you do?

I just tried to stuff everything in one bag and ripped it
- +1 y
Oh no..
- +1 y
They usually let you put one in the baggage thing above your head and one under the seat by your feet
- +1 y
Yea i mentioned that above but i didn't know if they’d let both the backpack and case go under the seat since the carry on will be in the overhead
I think you can do it.
01 Reply- +1 y
I need a belt to attach them as 1 personal item 😂
Probably not, don't take so much stuff with you 😆
02 Reply- +1 y
But i neeeeed it
+1 yNo. Suck it up and check one.
03 Reply- +1 y
Im not afraid of the cost of a checked bag. Its only $30. But i know too many people who lost their checked luggage or it got stolen or broken. I want all my shit up front with me
- +1 y
Time for a backpack with a padded laptop compartment. I rarely take my briefcase travelling anymore.
- +1 y
I dont even have a laptop in it. I had to fit stuff in it that didn't fit in the backpack and carry on
+1 yOn a plane?
02 Reply- +1 y
Yes.
- +1 y
It depends there's only so much you can fit in that luggage container above your head. Unless you fly first class
Take the train
