This dude should have at least gotten 20 years, but got off because his punishment was deemed severe when compared to previous cases. WTF is wrong with this country?
His original "murder" charge and sentence were downgraded, and apparently it's standard practice in that state for convicts to only serve 2/3 of their sentence for good behavior. For a manslaughter charge, 6-10 years is typical, so 5 would be about right, by their standards. I personally don't agree with an arbitrary early release though, and I'm unfamiliar with the case. It sounds like at best, it's a jittery cop who made a bad shoot.
I have followed the story for five years. I have about six questions/takes on Mohammad Noor and Justine Damon here at GaG, each containing multiple links from the "liberal media".
The fact is a racist doesn't give fuck about "White" people getting killed by the police. A racist can only use it as justification to make the claim that their insane racist belief system does not exist because "White" people get killed also. The real point is of course no one stops you from supporting "White" people and only "White" people who are killed by the police. You don't do it because you know if they get justice, there will be more pressure to provide justice to "Blacks" also.
The thing that is amazing is that Noor is free. Not because of some issue with his criminal case. It is because other "White" officers received much less jail time for their murders or acts of brutality. So the court ruled, they could not punish Noor more than the officers before him.
Strangely enough, this is also forming the basis for Derek Chauvin's appeal, even though most likely he will not win it.
Yes, I will ignore it because Philandro Castile's mother wants justice, she doesn't give a fuck about media coverage. And she, even as her own son's murderer was scot-free went to march and protest so that Mohammad Noor would be put in jail.
No "Black" person gives a fuck about media coverage if their murderer is free to enjoy his/her life with no accountability for what they did.
And strangely enough the widows of "White" victims feel the same way.
