Remote cashiers, some working from their home (WFH), is a developing trend.
For example, cashiers at Sansan Chicken and two sister chains in the New York City area work from home in the Philippines, interacting with diners via Zoom. They’re all employed by the company Happy Cashier.
Canadian chain Freshii has Nicaragua-based remote cashiers who make $3.75 an hour.
Lower wages may not be a problem though. Philippines-based employees make more than the country’s median wage, and a remote Sansan employee said that they receive tips and split them with on-premises service staff. Meanwhile, the restaurant lowers its costs.
So what do you think? Have you ever experienced a remote cashier? Is it a good idea?
