I have this friend who has no trouble getting guys to fall head over heels for her. Within our first week of college she had them flocking and yet I felt bereft. I don't understand why I am always overlooked. I am shy and quite independent but it appears that no one ever approaches me. What the heck is going on?

Well... even though you look freaking amazing in you display pic, a girl with confidence and who is outgoing can be more appealing than a shy, quiet girl even though I like the latter more since I'm kinda shy and quiet too.. but its nothing that you can't fix. Its all about coming out of your shell a little bit. Just take your time and be comfortable in your own shoes.

its possible your friend just seems more approachable. like guys could approach her and have a higher likelihood of success rather than rejection.

If your friend is more outgoing then it's easier for them to talk to her. (Path of least resistance.)

It could also be that they think it would be easier to score with your friend than with you...(Which could be a good thing for you since then anyone who is interested in you is actually interested in you...)

It could be a number of things. Your friend could be extremely attractive, she could have a very friendly and inviting atmosphere while you're shy and more closed in. Her clothes might be more appealing too. Though the reasons for this are most certainly NOT limited to what I've just said, sometimes the reasons why are so subtle that as humans we can only feel them, not describe.

the "shy" part of you may be the problem. Don't get me wrong, some guys really like shy and/or quiet girls. I for one dated a shy girl for a bit, and I lost interest becaue I felt like I was doing all the work. When we talked, I HAD to do all the talking. Is your friend outgoing? I mean if she's oretty social, then yeah, guys will end up talking to her and giving her a chance just because she puts herself out there. You just have to advertise a bit. If you want guys, you have to advertise that you are available a little bit. But not too much, then you will be considered a tease.

i know exactly how you feel! this is like this and my best friend, a lot of times it is because if you are independant and a strong person they will be intimidated by you, but if your friend is more out there and dependant on guys and more flirty and stuff they will be attracted to her because she is easy to get, that is how me and my friend are. don't stop what you are doing, you will get better quality guys than she will, just be patient darlin!

you are extremely gorgeous! so I definitely don't think its a distinction between loooks. I've been in your shoes too, I'm shy and independent type but still sweet and friendly, but my friend whos more witty and funny and has more personality than me gets all guys' attention. Which drives me nuts.
So I think you should also try to do what I do and be more funny, crack up some jokes, update guys on ur life, bring up some funny discussions or interesting questions, to get their attention...once they see that you can be a fun girl too, they won't forget and you'll have your spotlight too. That's what I've learned and done. If anything, you're not dating all of these guys, so the one guy who you do truly like and want to be with him, he should get all this attention anyways ;)
