We dated for a little over 2 years, had a happy relationship, and 4 months ago he broke up with me saying his feelings had started to fade and it wasn't the same anymore. He said he wanted to spend time with friends and not have to worry about calling/hanging out with me anymore. Since then he has lead me on a few times, asking to hangout, and we'd have a great time together.

I made a few stupid mistakes by crying to him once afterwards saying I was lonely, and in a way, begging him to date me again and that we'd have a better relationship. He tells everyone we are done, but every once in a while when we hangout , it is amazing and we have so much fun together. He won't talk to me in front of his friends or other girls, and doesn't like me to tell anyone we still hangout sometimes. Will he ever love me again, or is he just using me to get what he wants when he feels lonely? Does he just want space for a while after our long relationship and maybe there is hope in the future?

It sounds like he just wants you there when he's lonely, which is bad. Although, since your relationship lasted 2 years there may be hope. Sometimes it's a good idea to take a break, I know several couples that do this. It has been going on for 4 months so far, though, and he may be getting used to what's happening. He obviously feels that your someone he can see whenever he wants, and not have to commit to. It seems, all that will happen in the next few weeks(or however long this goes on) you'll be the one to get hurt.
You could probably tell him to choose, weather he wants to really be friends(yes this means talking to you in front of his friends), date you again, or you could stop seeing each other.
